One of the many comments, phone calls and letters for Wendy

District Support Manager receives To Whom It May Concern This letter won’t be overly formal (I’m not that kind of guy) but it will be sincere and truthful. My name is Andy Rex Steele, I’m 29 now, I served as an Infantry Soldier for 9 years in the British Army. I was discharged with P.T.S.D. after being part of OP Herrick 13 with 16 Air Assault. I had an incident related to my PTSD that found me in Manawatu Prison. Wendy Clark contacted me in there and told me I will be OK. I got Ebail to the Salvation Army where I spent several months. I had no family and wound in a dark place. I had begun thinking of taking my life. At this point I had a visit from Dave and Brent. They told me Wendy had arranged counselling for me. This helped so much. I have seen Wendy more in the last 12 months than anyone else. She has got me compensation from the UK Armed Forces. She altered the outcome of my case in court, spoken with my lawyer and probation lady. What I am trying to say is I would 100 percent be dead if not for Wendy’s help. Wendy is the nicest most kind, helpful person I have ever met. I will be forever in a debt to Wendy as I owe her my life. She was there, when on one else was. Regards A. R.Steele

New armoured vehicle purchase replaces ageing fleet The army's deteriorating fleet is to receive a boost thanks to the pur-chase of 43 new armoured vehicles. Defence Minister Ron Mark has announced that the Government has approved buying Bushmaster NZ5.5 vehicles, two of which were on show at Linton Military Camp on Wednesday. The $102.9 million price tag covers 43 Australian-designed Bushmas-ters, training, a desktop simulator and support equipment and infrastruc-ture upgrades at Linton. Some Bushmasters are already in service with the SAS and they’re widely used across other Five Eyes nations.

Defence Minister Ron Mark sits in one of the army's new

armoured vehicles. The Bushmaster had proved superior to the “inadequate” Pinzgauers it was replacing, Mark said. Its V hull design was built to redirect blasts, destroying the vehicle, but saving the passengers. “The toughest decisions are always those that will put our people in harm’s way, and this vehicle won’t make those particular decisions any easier, but they will give our service personnel the confidence that they have mobility and protection that will keep them safe,” Mark said.

Page 13: The Tattler - papanuirsa.co.nz · Super Rugby Saturday 8th 7pm Hurricanes & Chiefs and Sunday 9th Crusaders and Highlanders starts at 3 o’clock. Come on down Barbeque half time

Pins for Sale $10 each

“Having lost people in Afghanistan by improvised explosive devices, knowing all of that and knowing this type of vehicle is available and can be purchased it would be irresponsible not to buy it.” Weighing 17 tonnes, with an additional five-tonne payload, Bushmasters can protect the up to 10 personnel on the vehicle from ballistic and blast attacks. The fleet will supplement other vehicles the military does not have, such as protected ambulances, and although not a combat vehicle, it can be fitted with machine guns. Its versatility will increase the Defence Force's ability to support allies with peace keeping operations and help in natural disasters. The police could also call in the Bushmaster in a crisis, such as the Christchurch Mosque attacks. “Successive governments, both National and Labour, have underinvested in defence for over 20 years. My goal was to address all of those deficiencies in three,” Mark said. Delivery of the fleet is expected to begin in late 2022. The full fleet is expected to be in action from late 2023.

Last Post They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn,

At the going down of the sun, and in the morning.

We will remember them, Lest we forget. 814020 Noel Henry 405687 Arthur Good
