PresentsThe 90th Saturday Reunion

March 19, 2016 9:00am-3:00pm What a gigantic celebration this will be! The TCRWP will once again open our doors to thousands of

educators from all over the country. This promises to be an especially wonderful event as it marks our 90th Saturday Reunion. As always, we will offer keynotes and closings by renowned authors and

leaders in the field of education, senior Project staff, including Lucy Calkins and all TCRWP staff devel-opers. On this day, over 125 workshops will be offered on topics such as: argument writing, writing about reading, reading interpretively and analytically, embedding historical fiction in nonfiction text

sets, opinion writing for very young writers, managing workshop instruction, aligning instruction to the CCSS, using performance assessments and learning progressions to ratchet up the level of teaching,

state-of-the-art test prep, phonics, guided reading and more.

The Teachers College Reading and Writing Project

Major Speakers Include:Andrew Solomon, renowned writer, lecturer and activist, is the author of the best-selling book, Far From the Tree: Parents, Children, and the Search for Identity, which received the National Book Critics Circle Award for Nonfiction and was chosen as one of the New York Times’ Ten Best Books of 2012. Calkins says, “He’s the best speaker I’ve ever heard.”

Lucy Calkins, Founding Director of the TCRWP, is the author or co-author of two score of books including the newly released Units of Study for Teaching Reading and Units of Study in Writing. Lucy is the Richard Robinson Professor of Children's Literature at Teachers College where she co-directs the Literacy Specialist Program.

Mary Ehrenworth, Deputy Director of the TCRWP, is co-author several titles in Units of Study in Writing and Units of Study in Teaching Reading. Mary leads the TCRWP’s work with middle school teachers, coaches, principals and students.

Kathy Collins is the author of Growing Readers, Reading for Real, and I Am Reading: Nurture Children's Meaning-Making and Engagement with Any Book. Kathy is a former teacher, TCRWP staff member, and frequent keynote speaker.

Kathleen Tolan, Senior Deputy Director of the TCRWP, is co-author of multiple titles in both the upper grade reading and writing Units of Study series. Kathleen leads the Project’s work in upper grade work and oversees all annual institues.

Amanda Hartman, Deputy Director of Primary Literacy at the TCRWP, is co-author of One-to-One and of multiple titles in both the reading and writing Units of Study series. Amanda is a former dual language teacher and led the Project’s work with ELLs.

Carl Anderson is the author of the acclaimed books, Assessing Writers, How’s It Going? and Strategic Writing Conferences: Smart Conversations that Move Young Writers Forward. Carl, a former TCRWP staff member, is a featured speaker throughout the country as well as interna-tionally.

Laurie Pessah, Senior Deputy Director of the TCRWP, is co-author of A Principal’s Guide to Leadership in the Teaching of Writing and of How-To-Books: Writing to Teach Others, Kindergarten. A former principal, Laurie is deeply involved in working with school leaders.

Colleen Cruz is a Senior Lead Staff Developer at the TCRWP. She is the author of The Unstop-pable Writing Teacher: Real Strategies for the Real Classroom. Colleen is also an author of multiple titles in the writing and reading Units of Study series.

Kate Roberts is a Lead Staff Developer at the TCRWP. Kate is co-author of Falling in Love with Close Reading: Lessons for Analyzing Texts – and Life and multiple titles in the middle school writing Units of Study series.

The Morning Keynote will be held at Riverside Church at 9:00 a.m.490 Riverside Drive (between 120th and 122nd Streets)
