Herbert Beerbhom-Tree(17 December 1852 – 2 July 1917)

• Herbert Beerbohm Tree wore fur and seaweed to pay Caliban, with waist-length hair and apelike bearing, suggestive of a primitive part-animal part-human stage of evolution.

• This "missing-link" portrayal of Caliban became the norm in productions until Roger Livesey, in 1934, was the first actor to play the role with black makeup.
