What are The Golden Globes Awards?

What is it? The Golden Globes Awards are given by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), to acknowledge the best actors in the year, both American and international. There are 2 categories: Films and TV Series.

History… The first Golden Globes Awards Ceremony was on 20th January of 1944, in the 20th Century Fox Studios. The last one was on January 8, 2017. Nowadays, the Ceremony is televised by 167 countries and is the third most watched Awards of the year, behind “the Oscars” and the “Grammy Awards”. The first actor who won was Paul Lukas, and the first actress, Jennifer Jones.

Interview: Mr. Nicolás D.

Good afternoon, Mr. Nicolás. How are you? I'm fine, thank you. I'm very excited about this interview. So, let's get started! How did you get involved in the matter of the Shroud of Turin? I read a book about the matter in 1978, and as a scientist and christian, I was immediately interested. Since that day, I felt the need to learn more about Jesus Christ. What's your experience in teaching? Well, I've been at Andel for 4 years, and I'm very happy at this school. Before, I spent 22 years at Retamar, 10 in bachillerato and 12 in vocational studies. At the same time, for 25 years now, I've been a professor of Quantum Mechanics in the UNED (National University of Distance Education). Here is where, 20 years ago, I figured out I love teaching, but I prefer teaching the older students more. At Andel, I am head of the V.S. department. It's a section of the school that is rapidly growing since it offers priceless practical training that helps start a professional career in the electronics/communications sector, with many job opportunities. Why did you choose Andel and specifically vocational studies? Because I saw it as a very beautiful and interesting educational project, and also because of my acquired experience during my 12 years at Retamar.

What do you think Andel needs to do to improve the education, and formation of its students? We worry about parents, teachers, and students. An all rounded human training as well as a Christian one, apart from their professional and technical qualifications, is necessary to make our students into model professionals, citizens, christians… Due to the fact that no one can give away what they don´t have; the teachers always have to be a step ahead. Are there any important differences between Andel and Retamar? No, the purpose is the same, which is very nice. Maybe, one difference is that Retamar has more experience, and Andel is like a young boy growing into a man.

“Coming back where it all began”

On February 23, teachers and old students of Andel met at our school to celebrate the Annual Meeting of the Old Andel Students Association (AAAA, translated: Asociación de Antiguos Alumnos de Andel). First, the assistants played a football match on the new football grass fields. Then, everybody went to have dinner in the school dining room, while they spoke about their university and professional lives.

At the end, the representatives of each promotion were reunited to discuss the next AAAA activities in the future. In conclusion, this meeting has been an opportunity to come back where it all began, to talk with the teachers that helped them to arrive where they are now and to see old schoolmates and friends.
