Blue gum is very on-trend at the moment. I am seeing it being used in many floral designs lately, which is great to see, as being na5ve to Australia it can naturally hold up well in our warmer wedding weather condi5ons. Stacey from Poppy Lane Flowers By Design, QLD, adds a pop of colour to this bouquet with purple lisianthus, red David Aus5n roses and pink stocks.

If you want elegance and grace, nothing can compare to the simply divine white peony. All peony blooms start like very hard tennis sized balls and slowly open up to reveal their so_ fluffy petals. Adding textured green foliage is a great way to add contrast and interest to a peony bouquet design. Because they are large flowers with a long strong stem similar to a hydrangea, they can be paired with equally large foliage like eucalyptus.

Peonies look beau5ful paired with other so_ petal flowers such as sweet peas, roses and ranunculus. Below is the classic and oh-so-feminine look; a round posy bouquet of so_ roman5c blooms with peonies as a standout feature.

Because this bloom is so so_ and feminine, it’s great to mix in contras5ng spikey and textured elements such as sea holly, thistles, and na5ves, and the hanging amaranthus in this design by The Flowerman 5es in the colour beau5fully.

Colour trends for fashion, interiors and weddings o_en come and go, but if you are unsure of what colour to pick for your wedding, why not take a look at black and white style. This floral design uses dark and green foliages along with anemones and deep burgundy dahlias and calla lilies. This deep tone is so rich and gives the overall appearance of the classic black and white.

Black succulents are a great way to bring that dark tone into a bouquet. Here they are paired with the elegant white Phalaenopsis orchid with some white Singapore orchids scaHered through also.

Thinking of a summer wedding? Think a brightly coloured bouquet. Yellow on its own or with the warmth of orange, can make a bridal bouquet look like it’s glowing. with blooms scaHered throughout like in this bouquet of poppies, ranunculi, mimosa, peonies, sweet peas, and tulips by Bows and Arrows.

So many brides adore pink. Most keep it classic and stay with the so_ pink tones, with pale pink, dusty pink and blush pink being the most popular choices. But why not brighten things up on one of the happiest days of your life with hot pink anemones and roses. It can s5ll be very preHy, feminine and even have some of those so_er shades scaHered through.

Orange is vivid and bold. It reminds me of hot summer nights and sunsets at the beach and looks amazing paired with a contras5ng colour like purple. Look at these amazing orange roses by La Pe5te Fleur.

For a summer beach wedding or an outdoor event under a marquee, I adore using purple flowers as there are so many different flowers available in all shades of purple. When you put them all together the results can be stunning!

I “heart” ranunculi. Absolutely love them. A stunning spring wedding flower, the ranunculus comes in many hues, from pale shades to bright pops of colour. This bridal bouquet uses so_ sweet tones of white and pale pink, which look divine combined with silver dusty miller and, of course, peonies!

There’s no denying it, dahlias are breathtakingly gorgeous. There are so many sizes, shapes and colours within the dahlia family that I bet you find one to fall in love with. Some, like the one used above by LiHle Big Farm, are the size of dinner plates! For me, I am in love with them all, as each one has their own unique feature. Some have so_, ruffled petals while others are more structured.

Dahlias are an absolute hero and feature flower for any wedding bouquet. The brighter blooms including red, burgundy, hot pinks, bright oranges and yellows are fantas5c for adding colour into wedding flower design. These blooms can certainly pack a punch with their size and colour. Use them to make a bridal party stand out or have guests saying ‘wow’ upon entering your recep5on space.

This colour paleHe by Beth from Twig, SA, is harmonious with some stunning examples of apricot David Aus5n roses and dahlias. Depth is also added using a burgundy dahlia, and the white cosmos daisy lightens and highlights. Again, amazing texture and a fantas5c combina5on of flowers makes the bouquet just so pleasing to the eye.

Check out this insanely gorgeous design by Prue from Prue Swain Orange Flowers, NSW. I love the groupings in this large bouquet that surround the hero huge pink waratah. All the flowers that surround, including sea holly, ruffled parrot tulips, andromeda, blushing bride, and ranunculi are unique in themselves and clustering them adds great texture to the design. The colour paleHe balances and brings the look together.

My number one favourite na5ve flower is Blushing Bride. For me, not only does it have the perfect name for a wedding flower but it is the ‘preoest’ of the na5ve blooms. It is available in white and pink and it is a great smaller sized bloom. It can be mixed with tradi5onal preoes, roses for example or it can be teamed with other striking blooms. It has a wonderful textured centre when in full bloom which is catching to the eye.

Another so_ preHy na5ve is flannel flower. This bloom is not just so_ in appearance, it is literally so_ as its petals are like velvet. With the just picked from the garden style of bouquet becoming so popular, daisies have also seen an increase in popularity. Different to a daisy chrysanthemum though, flannel flower is a bit more relaxed in style and super cute. It adds great texture to a bouquet and it goes really well with green and grey foliages. Botanic Art combines flannel flower here with white warratahs, cymbidium orchids, andromeda and so_ grey blue gum foliage.

In our 2015 Wedding Flowers Compe55on we received many entries which featured fashionable na5ve flowers. My favourite entry, which came in 2nd place, was from Touchwood Flowers from Port Macquarie, NSW. I just fall totally in love with a so_ colour paleHe and the contrast between the sculptural na5ve and preHy classic rose is stunning.

Seen in all the pages of bridal magazines at the moment, King proteas (South Africa) are a giant statement flower. You will need two hands to carry your bridal bouquet when walking down the aisle with a King protea bouquet. What a show stopper! They are available in white and pink and certainly stand out as the focal flower. Here, While Chiara Anne Floral Couture plays with the blooms large size and uses other large scale elements like eucalypt foliage to balance the design.

This divine bouquet by That LiHle Flower Shop incorporates the most stunning and varied mix of blooms and textures. Deep velvet roses combine with burgundy cymbidium orchids and orange pincushions. Texture and interest is added with scabiosa pods and old mans beard. I love the way your eye dances around the design because there are so many beau5ful aspects to look at.

This amazing wedding bouquet comes from Jay Archer Floral Design, created for a styled shoot in West Sussex, UK. Rare succulents, plant material, and moss were used and for a touch of luxury, gold leaf. Have you ever thought of using a superfood in your wedding bouquet? Well you can with Kale. Kale can make a statement feature for a unique bouquet. It is a large element with green lush leaves and a purple hue centre.
