What is the Texas STaR Chart?
The Texas StaR chart stands for School Technology and Readiness, known simply as the STaR Chart.
The chart is a self-assessment and is utilized by campuses and school districts. It is aligned with a Long-Range Plan for Technology.
The STaR Chart’s purpose is for planning, budgeting, and evaluating technology progress.
The Four Key Areas of the Texas STaR Chart
I. Teaching and LearningII. Educator Preparation and
DevelopmentIII. Leadership, Administration, and
Instructional SupportIV. Infrastructure for Technology
I. Teaching and LearningThe Teaching and Learning Domain asks the
questions from the following six focus areas:
1. Patterns of Classroom use.2. Frequency/Design of Instructional Setting
Using Digital Content 3. Content Area Connections 4. Technology Applications TEKS Implementation 5. Student Master of TEKS Implementation 6. Online Learning
II. Educator Preparation and Development
The Educator Preparation and Development has the following six focus areas:
1. Professional Development Experience 2. Models of Professional Development 3. Capabilities of educators 4. Technology Professional Development 5. Participation Levels of Understanding
and Patterns of Use 6. Capabilities of Educators with Online
Learning
III. Leadership, Administration and Instructional Support
The Leadership, Administration and Instructional Support covers these six focus areas:
1. Leadership and Vision Planning 2. Instructional Support 3. Communication and Collaboration 4. Budget 5. Leadership and Support for Online Learning
Leadership 6. Administration and Instructional Support
IV. Infrastructure for Technology
The 6 focus areas for Infrastructure for Technology are:
1. Students Per Classroom Computers 2. Internet Access 3. Connectivity Speed4. Classroom Technology 5. Technical Support Local/Wide Area
network 6. Distance Learning Capacity
Levels of Progress Levels of Progress The Texas STaR Chart has four levels
of progress. They are divided into: Early Tech Developing Tech Advanced Tech Target Tech.
In order to meet the guidelines of the Long-Range Plan for Technology and the No Child Left Behind Act, we need to increase our school’s achievement level to that of Target Tech.

Summary
Today’s students require technology more than ever so as to to be dynamic and prolific in this era. Educators must help by integrating technology into their lessons and lives. This will merely be achievable with proper support and preparation for everyone.
