May you experience the joy of God’s presence as we worship together this morning. We are blessed by your presence!

Enjoy our gracious lobby to greet friends, guests, and visitors before the service. Please sign the guest book in the lobby if you are visiting with us today, and include your address and zip code.

Please allow others to enjoy quiet space and time in the pews as they prepare for worship. Our musical prelude begins our worship experience.

We encourage you to use this time to silently prepare to receive God’s Word.

WHEN YOU LEAVE…..Introduce yourself to someone you do not know.

The flowers on the altar today were dedicated by Kurt & Cathie Baker in

celebration of the baptisms of Dylan James & Everly Jane Baker AND

by Jenna Balaicuis in celebration of the baptism of Sasha Piper Leary.

You may download an electronic copy of the worship program to your electronic device by scanning the QR code on the lobby bulletin board.

Welcome and Announcements Moment for Reflection

GATHERING

The Holy Spirit calls us together as the people of God.

Please stand in body or spirit.

The Confession and Forgiveness

Blessed be the holy Trinity, ☩ one God, who forgives all our sin,

whose mercy endures forever. Amen. God of all mercy and consolation, come to the help of your people, turning us from our sin to live for you alone. Give us the power of your Holy Spirit that we may confess our sin, receive your forgiveness, and grow into the fullness of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another. Most merciful God, we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen. God, who is rich in mercy, loved us even when we were dead in sin, and made us alive together with Christ. By grace you have been

saved. In the name of ☩ Jesus Christ, your sins are forgiven. Almighty

God strengthen you with power through the Holy Spirit, that Christ may live in your hearts through faith. Amen.

THE WORD

God speaks to us in scripture, preaching, and song.

The First Reading Acts 9:1-20

Each of us has a story of meeting God’s grace. Saul (later called Paul) was an ardent persecutor of all who followed the Way of Christ. This reading recounts the story of his transformation, beginning with an encounter with Jesus Christ on the way to Damascus.

A reading from Acts Chapter 9. 1Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest 2and asked him for letters to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any who belonged to the Way, men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem. 3Now as he was going along and approaching Damascus, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. 4He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” 5He asked, “Who are you, Lord?” The reply came, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. 6But get up and enter the city, and you will be told what you are to do.” 7The men who were traveling with him stood speechless because they heard the voice but saw no one. 8Saul got up from the ground, and though his eyes were open, he could see nothing; so they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus. 9For three days he was without sight, and neither ate nor drank. 10Now there was a disciple in Damascus named Ananias. The Lord said to him in a vision, “Ananias.” He answered, “Here I am, Lord.” 11The Lord said to him, “Get up and go to the street called Straight, and at the house of Judas look for a man of Tarsus named Saul. At this moment he is praying, 12and he has seen in a vision a man named Ananias come in and lay his hands on him so that he might regain his sight.” 13But Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much evil he has done to your saints in Jerusalem; 14and here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who invoke your name.” 15But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is an instrument whom I have chosen to bring my name before Gentiles and kings and before the people of Israel; 16I myself will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name.” 17So Ananias went and entered the house. He laid his hands on Saul and said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on your way here, has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” 18And immediately something like scales fell from his eyes, and his sight was restored. Then he got up and was baptized, 19and after taking some food, he regained his strength. For several days he was with the disciples in Damascus, 20and immediately he began to proclaim Jesus in the synagogues, saying, “He is the Son of God.” Word of God. Word of Life. Thanks be to God.

Reprinted by ownership of sufficient copies or license #, see page 27.

The congregation will sing the following response:

1I will extol you, O LORD, for you have drawn me up, and did not let my foes rejoice over me. 2O LORD my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me. Response 3O LORD, you brought up my soul from Sheol, restored me to life from among those gone down to the Pit. 4Sing praises to the LORD, O you his faithful ones, and give thanks to his holy name. Response 10Hear, O LORD, and be gracious to me! O LORD, be my helper!" 11You have turned my mourning into dancing; you have taken off my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, 12so that my soul may praise you and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to you forever. Response

11

The Second Reading Revelation 5:11-14 The vision of John recorded in Revelation offers a glimpse of cosmic worship on the Lord’s Day. At its center is “the Lamb who was slain.”

A reading from the book of Revelation Chapter 5.

11Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels surrounding the throne and the living creatures and the elders; they numbered myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, 12singing with full voice, “Worthy is the Lamb that was slaughtered to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!” 13Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, singing, “To the one seated on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!” 14And the four living creatures said, “Amen!” And the elders fell down and worshiped. Word of God. Word of Life. Thanks be to God.

Please stand in body or spirit.

The Holy Gospel John 21:1-19 The risen Christ appears again to his disciples by the sea where they were first called. After echoes of the fishing and feeding miracles, he gives a final reminder of the cost of a disciple’s love.

The Holy Gospel according to St John Chapter 21. Glory to you, O Lord. 1After [he appeared to his followers in Jerusalem,] Jesus showed himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias; and he showed himself in this way. 2Gathered there together were Simon Peter, Thomas called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples. 3Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. 4Just after daybreak, Jesus stood on the beach; but the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. 5Jesus said to them, “Children, you have no fish, have you?” They answered him, “No.” 6He said to them, “Cast the net to the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in because there were so many fish. 7That disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on some clothes, for he was naked, and jumped into the sea. 8But the other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, only about a hundred yards off. 9When they had gone ashore, they saw a charcoal fire there, with fish on it, and bread. 10Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.” 11So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, a hundred fifty-three of them; and though there were so many, the net was not torn. 12Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” Now none of the disciples dared to ask him, “Who are you?” because they knew it was the Lord. 13Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish. 14This was now the third time that Jesus appeared to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.

13

15When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my lambs.” 16A second time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Tend my sheep.” 17He said to him the third time, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter felt hurt because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” And he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep. 18Very truly, I tell you, when you were younger, you used to fasten your own belt and to go wherever you wished. But when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will fasten a belt around you and take you where you do not wish to go.” 19(He said this to indicate the kind of death by which he would glorify God.) After this he said to him, “Follow me.” The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ.

Please be seated.

8 am - The Nicene Creed 10:30 am – Holy Baptism | Please see the next page.

Let us confess our faith in the words of the Nicene Creed. We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

8 am – The service continues on page 21.

The Sacrament of Holy Baptism The Assembly may be seated.

Assistant: God, who is rich in mercy and love, gives us a new birth into a living hope through the sacrament of baptism. By water and the Word, God delivers us from sin and death and raises us to new life in Jesus Christ. We are united with all the baptized in the one body of Christ, anointed with the gift of the Holy Spirit, and joined in God's mission for the life of the world.

Assistant: Who presents these children for baptism? Parents: We present Dylan James (Baker) for baptism. We present Everly Jane (Baker) for baptism. We present Sasha Piper (Leary) for baptism

Assistant: In Christian love you have presented these children for Holy Baptism. You should, therefore, faithfully bring them to the services of God’s house, and teach them the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments. As they grow in years, you should place in their hands the Holy Scriptures and provide for them instruction in the Christian faith, that, living in the covenant of their Baptism and in communion with the Church, they may lead a godly life until the day of Jesus Christ. Do you promise to fulfill these obligations? Parents: I do.

Assistant: Nichole and Corduff, do you promise to nurture Dylan James (Baker) in the Christian faith as you are empowered by God's Spirit, and to help him live in the covenant of baptism and in communion with the church? Sponsors: I do.

17

Assistant: Jaclyn and Daniel, do you promise to nurture Everly Jane (Baker) in the Christian faith as you are empowered by God's Spirit, and to help her live in the covenant of baptism and in communion with the church? Sponsors: I do. Assistant: Nicole, do you promise to nurture Sasha Piper (Leary) in the Christian faith as you are empowered by God's Spirit, and to help her live in the covenant of baptism and in communion with the church? Sponsors: I do.

Assistant: People of God, gathered in this community of faith do you promise to pray for Dylan James (Baker), Everly Jane (Baker) and Sasha Piper (Leary) in their new life in Christ?

All: I do. The Profession of Faith

Pastor: I ask you to profess your faith in Christ Jesus, reject sin, and confess the faith of the church.

Do you renounce the devil and all the forces that defy God?

All: I renounce them. Pastor: Do you renounce the powers of this world that rebel against God? All: I renounce them. Pastor: Do you renounce the ways of sin that draw you from God? All: I renounce them.

Pastor: Do you believe in God the Father? All: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

18

Pastor: Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God? All: I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried;

he descended to the dead.* On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

Pastor: Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit? All: I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church,

the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Thanksgiving at the Font.

Pastor: We give you thanks, O God, for in the beginning your Spirit moved over the waters and by your Word you created the world, calling forth life in which you took delight. Through the waters of the flood you delivered Noah and his family, and through the sea you led your people Israel from slavery into freedom. At the river Jordan your Son was baptized by John and anointed with the Holy Spirit. By the baptism of Jesus' death and resurrection you set us free from the power of sin and death and raise us up to life with Christ.

Pour out your Holy Spirit, the power of your living Word, that those who are washed in the waters of baptism

may be given new life. To you be given honor and praise through Jesus Christ our Lord, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever.

All: Amen.

The Assembly may be seated.

The Baptism

Pastor: Dylan James (Baker), I baptize you in the name of the Father, + and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. All: Amen.

19

Assistant: We give you thanks, O God, that through water and the Holy Spirit you give your daughters and sons

new birth, cleanse them from sin, and raise them to eternal life.

Sustain these children with the gift of your Holy Spirit:

the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord, the spirit of joy in your presence, both now and forever. All: Amen.

GREEN TEAM TIP: Next time you’re doing a home improvement project, shop for green products to reduce your exposure to toxic chemicals, plus to support businesses who meet high environmental and social sustainability standards. More businesses will shift to eco-friendly practices when we vote with our pocketbooks. Many house-wares are unsustainably made with precious natural resources & treated with toxic chemicals, while green products help preserve the environment & make our homes healthier. Find more about green living at greenamerica.org & products at greenpages.org. --------------------------------------- DETACH HERE------------------------------------------ GERANIUMS FOR PENTECOST
