PARISH NEWS From our Pastor….

The Jewish people often linked sin with suffering: the Israelites lost battles because they had been unfaithful to God; the Galileans were often contentious rather than peaceful with the Romans, which got them in trouble or even killed. The tower in Siloam fell, supposedly because the Jews were building an aqueduct with temple money. Jerusalem was destroyed in 70 A.D. because they did not accept Jesus’ words of “repent and reform your lives”—and Jesus had predicted it.

It is true that that individual sin and suffering are not necessarily connected. A person who steals may go to prison. On the other hand, many saints suffered at the hands of others.

National sin IS linked to suffering: When Americans as a collective whole (minus the minority who protest) choose consumerism over the well-being of people or the environment, the national debt and other problems increase. Likewise, if people choose abortion or euthanasia as a ‘quick fix’, it emphasizes a culture of death instead of a culture of life. If we don’t uphold our patriotism, the fabric of America will continue to unravel, and our identity will diminish.

This Lent, we are called to work on those areas of our lives that need redemption. As collective individuals, transformed by the love of God, we can bring more healing and life to our troubled world.

TRI-PARISH YOUTH MINISTER We need a new tri-parish youth minister. Job duties include coordinating the Youth Ministry program, Godparents program, retreats and trip opportunities, recruiting, training and forming volunteers and other related duties. If you are interested, submit a resume to Fr. Del Lape, Fr. Joe Miksch or Fr. Mike Swanton.

LENT During Lent we will have a 12:10 pm daily Mass, and on Mondays and Wednesdays we will NOT have an 8:15 pm Mass. Silence calls people to prayer in a more noticeable way. During Lent, there will be no music in the opening procession or closing recessional at Mass.

ABSTAINING For those over the age of 14: Every Friday is a day of abstinence. We must abstain from eating meat.

CONFESSIONS St. Bonaventure: Tuesday & Thursday 5:00-5:20 pm Saturday 3:30-4:30 pm St. Isidore: Thursday 5:30-6:30 pm Friday 6:30-8:00 am Saturday 3:30-5:00 pm

STATIONS Stations of the Cross: 7:00 pm in the Church and Spanish 5:30 pm in the church.

Interested high school teens and parents can call Virgil at 402-285-2261, for more information.

ARCHBISHOP LUCAS WANTS TO HEAR FROM YOU! As he seeks to more effectively shepherd the faithful of the Archdiocese of Omaha, Archbishop Lucas would like your input.

Following these sessions, the archbishop and his team will use your feedback to establish three overarching pastoral priorities and associated goals to foster more fruitful ministry throughout the archdiocese. Please keep this initiative in your prayers. Go to www.archomaha.org to rsvp.
