    WHY A TOOLKIT

The consultations with workers and supervisorsclearly brought out the existence of major gaps ininformation, in recognizing the workers expectationsand in how the frontline management needs to

change its behavior to make the workplace moreconducive, pleasant and enabling for the workers. The workers need to understand their rights and

    responsibilities, overcome language barriers, culturaldifferences.

See the need for new support systems in Malaysia.

    OUTCOME OF TOOLKIT

To bridge existing gaps between Management andworkers from beginning of employment.

Management needs to show its leadership inproviding an orientation program that has a rights

based approach and which is worker centred. The orientation program has to go beyond thefamiliarization of work skills, of the workplaceenvironment, work ethics and rules of the company.

The worker must feel and realize that the company

recognizes her rights, her dignity and will respectthem.

Supervisors as frontline management. They must bethe bridge to create the enabling environment.
