EOS on the up
Electro Optic Systems Holdings
Limited has announced that its US
subsidiary EOS Defense Systems Inc. has
acquired the remote weapon systems
business of Recon Optical, Inc. The acquisition gives EOS direct control
of all of the technology and production for
all of its products, and represents a substantial increase in EOS production
capability, Dr Ben Greene said. EOS plans to leverage the acquisition
through:• larger production volume, leading to internal efficiencies and supply
chain improvements;• flexibility for allocating offsets within export markets to enable local
participation in remote weapon system production and support; and
• the ability to move improvements in one product more readily to
other products. The acquisition also improves EOS’ ability to provide total support for
its entire product range, since EOS has acquired the physical ROI depot
and spare parts operations for remote weapon systems, including
CROWS support operations in Iraq.EOS has also been awarded significant new contracts for delivery of its
remote weapon systems in the period since 1 July 2009. The contracts
require the delivery of at least 56 and up to 221 units for three existing
EOS customers. The delivery schedules span 24 months commencing in
early 2010, with 56 units to be delivered by 30 June 2010. If all options are
taken up, the contracts are worth around $52 million.
The contracts are the largest aggregate order received by EOS in its
own right for remote weapon systems in any half-year since the initial
product was developed by EOS over 10 years ago.
Dr Greene said the scope of the orders was especially positive because
the orders covered both the EOS R-400 and R-600 products. Another
positive was that customers who were actively deploying the products
were expressing their satisfaction through repeat orders.
“In particular, customers have emphasised the unmatched long-range
effectiveness of EOS weapon systems in placing these orders,” Dr Greene
said.“The orders will require monthly shipment rates to gradually increase
to their highest levels since mid-2007 but EOS production is well prepared
for this required expansion.”
