As home becomes more fashion driven – you have to think of your interiors like an entire ensemble or “head to toe” look. No one lives in just a single look, instead we incorporate elements of our past, present, and future selves so that we are actually living in multiple trends. As such it’s becoming harder to define individual styles as trends co-exist.

This ensemble of trends leads to new contrasting looks that mirror the multi-dimensional way people are living. When fashion styling moves to the home there is an element of casualization and comfort that comes in which leads us to a new style we are calling out as “Mid-Century Casual” a twist on the “Mid Century Modern” look that has gained popularity with Millennials. This style brings in new, warmed materials and textures for laid back living. In fashion we see this play out simultaneously with Chloe’s new “Hippie Modernism” collection.

A great example of this contrast in trend is the Farmhouse look which only continues to move in a luxe, refined direction. Considering where the farmhouse started with very humble roots, we can now see how the elements are upscaling to create the new “High Fashion Farmhouse” where artisan materials mix with a modern edge.

Among the contrast we are seeing there is still some common ground – one of the interesting elements that are crossing styles is Global. A recent study found that decorating styles are now equalized, meaning no one style is more dominant than the others. Global as now become a common element touching all styles as you can see here with different looks and treatments in a Global Casual, Global Modern, or Global Traditional installation. The takeaway here is don’t think that global interior styling only applies to eclectic homes – in fact it should be addressed in all home styles in a unique way.

The desire to disconnect from technology and reconnect with one another continues to inspire new spaces like these chat rooms where furniture is organized around a center table or ottoman and technology is noticeably absent from the room.
