Greetings,

Brothers, thank you for the opportunity and honor to serve Sun City Lodge #72 as Master this Masonic year. The

trust and confidence you have placed in me is truly humbling and I am looking very forward to working with every-

one to further our collective Masonic journeys. I’m very proud to be a member of this lodge – especially of the

many selfless examples of charity and brotherly love exemplified everyday by our Brothers. Whether that is check-

ing-in with each other, giving a brother a ride to lodge, fixing a faucet or light, sharing in fellowship or mentoring

another in the ritual. These are just but a few examples.

To our most recent Past Master, WB Mike Rial. Thank you for your leadership and service. You worked very hard

to clarify roles and responsibilities and navigated the lodge through an unprecedented and difficult year. In addi-

tion, I cannot express how grateful I am for all the support and mentoring you provided me – in the ritual, and eve-

rything else.

Life suddenly and dramatically changed last Spring, and we had to adapt and evolve as the environment demanded.

Masonry has always had to adapt and evolve. As such, we will work to be as inclusive as possible by leveraging

technology where appropriate and when we can. In addition, I would like to focus the beginning of this year on a

few things (provided that safety guidelines allow):

1) Safely getting back to in-person business meetings and conferring degrees

2) Working closely with the lodge committees and offices to align on short- and long-term goals

3) Holding education nights and finding other opportunities for fellowship

4) Supporting the youth organizations that share our building

5) Continuously improving our ritual work

But we will need to be flexible as the situation may require, of which I have no doubt that we’ll be successful. I look

forward to the next time we meet.

Fraternally,

Matt Link

Greetings Brothers,

Welcome to December and a new Masonic year for the Lodge. Congratulations to our new Worshipful Master, Matt Link and I am looking forward to another great year. We find ourselves in a bit of a transition like we normally do during this time and this means we really need some brothers to step up and take over Parts in the ritualistic work. We have several prospective members which is amazing and this will require a focus to bring them in and execute impressive degrees to the same high standard we have set for ourselves. Please consider taking over a part that you can. Specifically we need new brothers to perform the charge for each degree, some of the presenta-tions in the third degree, some of the parts in the second section of the third degree. Please contact the Master, myself, or the Junior Warden and we can help you to get started.

As always if I can be of any assistance to you please let me know as I am happy to help in any way that I can.

Fraternally,

Marcus Hensley

To my Brethren and friends,

It is with great honor and pleasure that I get to greet the Craft from the South after the most recent election, and I pray to be as charitable and honorable

as those wonderful Brethren before me in the line whom I hope to emulate this year.

I am looking forward to sharing this year, whatever it may bring, with prayers and hopes of a better year, a healthier year, and a safer year for all.

In my last month as Senior Deacon, I had the pleasure of joining Worshipful Brother Mike Rial, Worshipful Master Matthew Link, Brother Senior Warden

Marcus Hensley, Worshipful Brother Dave Miller, Brother Jim Denzien, and Brother Arizona Milke in visiting a Worthy Brother of whom we all know;

Brother Sam Brooks.

With warm hearts, hearty laughs, and with loving reminders, we were able to spend quality time with Brother Sam. Brother Sam is the model of a True

Mason, whom dedicates his time despite all concerns to be amongst the Craft, but due to health concerns has not been able to come to Lodge. Sam has

rarely missed a lodge function, supports the lodge and loves Freemasonry from the bottom of his heart, and misses all of the Brethren dearly. It was a

blessing to be a part of the officers and Brothers whom were able to bring the Lodge to Brother Sam, and he was elated to see familiar faces.

We miss you greatly Brother Sam, and we will be keeping you in our sincerest prayers and hopes for your comfort at home, and continue to pray that we

get to hear your laughs and see your smile again soon. The lodge meetings and the degrees have not been the same without you, and we hope you know

we are thinking of you at every meeting.

We need more Brothers like Sam, because he is the perfect model for a statement I found on a website from Massachusetts Freemasons which states,

“Being a Mason is about a father helping his son make better decisions; a business leader striving to bring morality to the workplace; a thoughtful man

learning to work through tough issues in his life.” Despite all health concerns, Brother Sam continues to be in positive spirits, is concerned about others,

and has an admirable outlook on life. Brother Sam has brought Freemasonry to so many corners of the world in this manner, and has made an impression

on many whom miss being with him in person. There is so much to learn from a Worthy Brother like Sam Brooks.

Thank you for all you have given the Lodge, Brother Sam, and I hope to possess even the smallest degree of your character this year, as even that would

greatly shine a brilliant light of the virtues you so eloquently possess. We hope and pray for your health and comfort, and most importantly to see you

again soon.

I look forward to a great year, and thank you Brethren for allowing me to be a part of your journey for the ensuing year.

Fraternally yours, Matthew Lawrence Brother Junior Warden

Sun City Masonic Investment Trust –Investing In the Future

When the Sun City Masonic Center was first established, a number of masonic related people contributed their

time and resources to developing the building and property. Part of their efforts were to establish an investment

trust to provide financial support for a place where Masonic related groups and activities could be conducted. To-

day, the Sun City Masonic Investment Trust is administered by 5 Trustees elected for individual rotating 5 year

terms of office by members of Sun City Masonic Lodge. The Chairman of the Investment Trust Board is Randall

Sturdevant. Members of the Investment Trust must be members of Sun City Masonic Lodge.

The legacy established 30-40 years ago has developed into a Masonic Center which is used by many groups and

many of us enjoy today. With the expenses of today, the Sun City Masonic Center is not self-sustaining and de-

pends on donations from the group using the Masonic Center and the proceeds from the Trust investments. The

proceeds from the invested Trust principal are disbursed periodically and no longer provide a sufficient amount to

cover the ever increasing costs associated with the operation and maintenance of the building and grounds.

The Investment Trust Board oversees the investments and provides, pursuant to the Trust Agreement, a quarterly

amount that is distributed to assist with the operation of the Sun City Masonic Center. The principal of the Invest-

ment Trust was established through donations and contributions by members of the Masonic groups using the Sun

City Masonic Center. The Investment Trust continues to need donations and contributions to maintain and grow a

Trust principal that will provide for the future operating expenses of the Masonic Center.

Individuals, or the groups, desiring to assist in enhancing the legacy or those who founded the Sun City Masonic

Center, are always welcome to make contributions and donations to the Investment Trust principal. Donations and

contributions directed to growing the Investment Trust need to be specifically identified for the Investment Trust and

directed for adding to the invested principal. Routine donations and contributions made to Sun City Lodge No 72

assist the Lodge with current expenses but are not used to grow the principal of the Investment Trust. Individuals

and groups interested in exploring the opportunity to make a direct contribution to growing the Investment Trust

principal should contact Hal Knowlton [email protected], (714) 343-4322.

Masonic tradition calls on us to aid and assist all distressed brothers, withersoever dispersed. Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to all

Dear Sun City Nile Club Ladies,

We held our Official Visit in the lodge dining room in order to keep our 6 foot social distancing in order. We had a wonderful time with 9 members and 2 guests in attendance. There was not much business to do so the meeting was short and then we all moved to the Red Robin for lunch which was the choice of our Queen Jill Guzman. As soon as the meeting was over, everyone pitched in to sanitize whatever was touched even our guests. A big thank you to everyone for doing this as it was greatly appreciated.

Please keep in mind that even though we are being allowed to have a meeting at the lodge, we still need to practice social dis-

tancing, wear masks, & wear gloves.

Our next meeting will be on January 4, 2021 as we start off the New Year.

Peoria CHAPTER 59 ORDER OF THE EASTERN STAR

PEORIA CHAPTER #59 Order of the Eastern Star

The Chapter has resumed in-person meetings at Sun City Lodge and we are following all guidelines required to keep our members safe. Our Chapter is continuing to grow, and we are so grateful! We welcome two new members; one comes via Affiliation and one by plural membership. They will be formally welcomed on December 9. On December 6, the members will gather at Arrowhead Mall for the annual Angel Tree shop-ping experience. Meet at Chompies at 11:00 am to get your cash, then return to Chompies for lunch after shopping. It is always a fun time and for a worthy cause! At the December 9 meeting, Sister Sue Peterson, Worthy Grand Adah will be honored. Sister Marie Tressler-Jones and husband Michael are the proud parents of a new baby girl, Katherine Hope. Little Katherine was born on October 17, 2020, at 8:20am and weighed in at 6 lbs, 4oz and was 19 inches long. She joins 20-month old brother Samuel at home in Surprise. Congratulations to the Jones family! Christmas words of wisdom:

“Unless we make Christmas an occasion to share our blessings, all the snow in Alaska won’t make it ‘white.’” Bing Crosby “Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and good will, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas.” President Calvin Coolidge “Mankind is a great, an immense family… This is proved by what we feel in our

hearts at Christmas.” Pope John XXIII “And the Grinch, with his Grinch feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled ‘till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store? What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.” Dr. Suess’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas

The officers and members of Peoria #59 extend their best wishes for the happiest of times shared with family and friends however it is you acknowledge your particular holiday. May peace, love and joy abound in the New Year for all!
