    The Masters MessageBrethren,

I want to say thank you for electing me Worshipful Master for

the ensuing Masonic year. I feel honored by your trust, the

weight of the responsibility of the o"ce, excited by the

challenges that lie ahead and humbled by the thought of being in

the long line of Worshipful Masters that have made this lodge

    such a wonderful place.

As I set out in this year, I have a few goals. First, I plan to

    continue the work that we had started over the past few years;

such as fixing up our lodge to make it a better experience. We

have put in new cabinets to display Waukegan 78s proud history.

We have stared a lodge store. We adjusted the bylaws to make ourlodge fiscally solvent into the future. We have also been

    committed to increasing membership.

Second, I am committed to fill our committees with brothers

who want to do the work that this lodge needs to have done in

order to continue our success. We will be using the ritual

committee to fill our slates with brothers so all of our degrees and

    Did you know?

    MOON LODGES

    A century ago thee were

    more than 3,000

    Masonic lodges which

can be described as"Moon Lodges"; in

    1954 there were fewer

    than 500.

    These lodges meet

on the day of the full

    moon for practical

    reasons; the brethren

had light to travel by at

    night. There may have

    been some symbolic

    meaning also.

    The advent of

    electricity, street lights,

    and the automobile

    made the reason for

    meeting on such nights

    antiquated throughunique. Many Grand

    Lodges now require

    lodges to meet on fixed

    days of the week.

lectures will be done in house. Though the education committee

we will be expanding our education programs, which is truly what

masonry is about. Through the events committee, we look

forward to creating more lodge events and functions for us to

take part in and share fellowship.

Third, the membership committee will work to find new

members and make them welcome to our lodge. We also want to

bring current brothers back to the lodge and become active

again. We look to grow our lodge with good quality men. To do

that we need to make all of our brothers and guests feel

welcomed, appreciated and that this lodge is their home.

Fourth, we plan to visit other lodges and invite other lodges to

visit us. I believe it is very important to build good relations with

the brothers in our area, we are after all the oldest lodge in

    northeastern Illinois.

I promise that I will work hard to continue to grow and make our

lodge the best it can be. I look to make Waukegan #78 the lodge

good men want to join and the lodge other lodges want to

emulate. I believe with all the help of brothers working hard

together these goals will be accomplished.

    Annual Installation of Officers

This years installation was nothing short of spectacular. All of the

o"cers were able to attend except one. The food, the cake, the

fellowship were all on par. Some Changes took place outside of

the usual o"cer line. RWB Carl B. Donahue retired as Secretary

and is succeeded by WB Robert Johnson. The transition will besmooth. The lodge is excited to have two of it's newest brothers

join the o"cer line. A hearty congratulations is in order!

    Lodge Happenings

    Waukegan 78 has

    been very busy

    closing out the

    previous year, but

    that doesn't mean

    we've taken a break

    from our work in

    making good men,

    better. Since the last

    trestleboard, we

    have passed a

    brother to

    Fellowcraft and

    Raised a new

    Master Mason. As

    the work continues,

    Waukegan 78 is

    rededicating itself

    to Value and raising

    the standards.

    Thank you to all

who assist us in ourgreat mission. We

    are changing the

    world one man at a

    time.

    Adding Value

Waukegan 78 is committed to it's members and because of that we take ti

to recognize achievement by its members. Whether you've just joined the

Scottish Rite, York Rite, Shrine, archived your O"cial Proficiency, Wauke78 celebrates you. This month, Waukegan is making a large e%ort to increa

membership recognition. To that end we would like to congratulate those

brothers who have been recognized in achieving their O"cial 3rd degree

Proficiency and received their certificates and wallet cards!

At the Masters request we will also have some other items to bestow on o

members. What are they? Well, come on out to the meetings to find out! I

going to be another great year with work, fellowship, events and more. We

look forward to having you come out!

    From the Secretary

Greetings from the South/East corner! I just wanted to take a minute to t

you all I will be diligently keeping on top of my duties as Secretary as well

working to get your profiles in our Mori system up to date with email

addresses, service records and more. A friendly reminder that if you have

email address, please make sure I have it. We will be trying some new thin

including a monthly email which will include a digital version of this

correspondence. It is also the Masters wish to shorten the amount of timespend on reading minutes. To that end, there will be a point in the future

where the minutes will be emailed out and a copy or two will be placed in

dining room for member review. If that catches on, we can entertain a mo

to "accept the minutes as electronically submitted and posted". This will g

us additional time to focus on more pressing issues.
