Waukegan Lodge #78 AF&AM September, 2015 The Master’s Message It’s that time again, Grand Lodge Communications, Annual Meetings and Elections of Ocers and before you know it, Installation! We are almost done with the Masonic year. We’ve had some ups and some downs, mostly ups. You may have noted that we had to cancel our Blue Lightning Event. This was a huge blow. Not to anyone in particular, but to our ocers and brothers in general. We failed to meet the requirements of getting all our spots filled e.g. none of our line ocers knew any lectures. While this is disappointing, there is a plus if you choose to see it. That isthat we now know where we stand. We took much time in preparing, contacting and getting the necessary forms filled out. We planned and we planned. But we failed in our duty to perform the work. If we continue this much longer, what is the cost? Perhaps it is time that each ocer learn a part and a lecture. Is that too much to ask of ourselves? Our Past Masters have already wrought their hours in the quarry and to ask them to continue to pick up our slack is unacceptable. www.waukegan78.com 1 THE TROWEL News | Education | Schedule Did you know? The Master’s Message It’s that time again, Grand Lodge Communications, Annual Meetings and Elections of Officers and before you know it, Installation! We are almost done with the Masonic year. We’ve had some ups and some downs, mostly ups.

You may have noted that we had to cancel our Blue Lightning Event. This was a huge blow. Not to anyone in particular, but to our officers and brothers in general. We failed to meet the requirements of getting all our spots filled e.g. none of our line officers knew any lectures. While this is disappointing, there is a plus if you choose to see it. That is— that we now know where we stand. We took much time in preparing, contacting and getting the necessary forms filled out. We planned and we planned. But we failed in our duty to perform the work.

If we continue this much longer, what is the cost? Perhaps it is time that each officer learn a part and a lecture. Is that too much to ask of ourselves? Our Past Masters have already wrought their hours in the quarry and to ask them to continue to pick up our slack is unacceptable.

ELEVATORS THAT RUN SIDEWAYS

In order to have unbroken floor space in the George Washington memorial in Alexandria, Virginia, the cars in two elevator shafts move sideways thirty-five feet. As the elevators rise 255 feet in two slanting hoist-ways from the main floor to the observation platform at the top of the building, it moves sideways 1 foot for approximately every 7.28 feet it ascends or descends.

As we look to the future, we can see a sun on the horizon. Whether its rising or setting, is up to us.

If you have questions or concerns, as always, you can reach me via email at [email protected] or by phone at 714-615-7809.

God Bless,

Grand Lodge Sessions

Every year Waukegan Lodge #78 sends its executive officers (WM SR & JR Wardens) to

the annual communications of the Grand Lodge of the State of Illinois to vote on matters concerning

our lodges here in the state. It’s an edifying experience for the novice as well as the seasoned Master. I encourage all Master Masons who can make the trip to do so. It’s a truly wonderful experience both for your individual Masonic journey as well as for networking and getting to know other brothers from around the state and sometimes, around the world. We hope to see you there in Springfield!

Annual Past Master’s Dinner

On September 26th, 2015 Waukegan Lodge #78 and Anchor and Ark Lodge #1027 will have its annual Past Master’s dinner to honor all our Past Masters. We will have a social hour at 5pm followed by dinner and a few presentations. The event will be held at “Primo”, formerly “In-laws” in Gurnee, IL. All Masons are welcome to attend and bring their significant others. RSVP by sending an email to [email protected]

Lodge Happenings

We’ve been extremely busy with degree work lately. You may be seeing many new faces in and around the lodge. So far this year, we have 4 new Master Masons; Eugene Gross Sr., Cory Conner, Alex Gholson and Ben Short. We also have 2 more soon to be Fellowcrafts and an Entered Apprentice coming the first week of October! Numerous other Brothers will be making their progress as well this and next year thanks to the intender program. To our newest Master Masons, Welcome & remember, the journey just started.
