• In the summer months, the sun shines all the time, even at midnight.

• As the sea freezes, the salt rises to the surface as ice crystals also called ice flowers.

• The tundra is the coldest and the driest of the biomes.

• The yellow Tundra Flower is just a flowering shrub, also known as the shrubby cinquefoil

• The Bearberry is known for being best liked by bears.

• Lichen is the most bizarre form of life, and is very sensitive to air pollution.

• The Pasque Flower is the first bloom of spring even before the ground has thawed.

• Caribou Moss is known as the cladonia rangiferina it grows on ground and rocks, and can be up to 4 inches high.

• Tufted Saxifrage grows in a low tight cushion in order to trap the suns heat.

• Rhododendron has waxy leaves that prevent water loss.

• Artic Poppy is known as a herb and is extremely tough and can grow up to 25 cm tall.

• The Dwarf Willow Tree can only grow up to four inches tall, but can spread on the ground.

• Cotton Grass is a member of the Sedge family, and is not a form of grass.

• Snowy Owls are also known as the Great White Owl. Can way anywhere from 3.5-6.6 pounds.

• The Artic Loon is one of the few birds to have solid bones.

• King Penguins are the second largest penguins. Adults are average 90 cm tall.

• Puffins raise about 1 or 2 baby puffins a year. There colorful bills are used to catch many fish.

• Snowshoe Hare has two coats one brown one white they also have huge back feet.

• The Musk Ox is huge and average 500-900 pounds.

• Caribou is a member of the deer family, isn’t shy, hates flies, and is always moving.

• Gray Wolf is about 2.5 feet tall and is about 4-5 feet long and 80-90 pounds. They can also jump 12 feet high.

Animals

• Emperor Penguins can live to be about 20 years old, and there body shape helps them survive.

• Polar Bears are the largest bears, they can weigh anywhere between 880-1500 pounds.

• Surprisingly insects can survive in the Tundra, they are mosquitoes and black flies.

• Polar Bears are becoming endangered because of global warming. There ice is melting and that’s where they spend most of their time.
