due to the pandemic. TheThrift Shop volunteers areplanning a sociallydistanced Tag Sale ofThrift Shop, rummage, and yard sale type itemsoutside in the churchparking lot on Saturday,September 12. Items willbe pre-sorted byvolunteers and placed onsocially distanced tables inthe lot, each table"tagged"with the prices of theitems. The church parking lot will be closed to parking that day to allow spacefor the sale, but parking will be available on Church Street and hopefully, at St.Mary's.

The funds raised by the Tag Sale will support the mission and ministries of thechurch. During the pandemic, the Thrift Shop revenue to the church has ceased, along with a loss of rental income and other usual fund raising events of thechurch. This Tag Sale will help offset some of that income loss. Following the TagSale, our Thrift Shop volunteers are planning to re-open the shop later inSeptember in a limited and safe manner

You are invited to drop off your “spring cleaning” donations at the church. Thechurch parking lot has donation bins with “Tag Sale” signs on them. Please call ifyou have any questions: First Parish Church (603) 742-5664, or VolunteerCoordinator Ingrid Roeder (406) 407-4371.

designed to invite churchmembers to engage in safemeaningful, substantive, and boldconversations on race. Thematerials include a participant’sreader, video clips, and resourcesfor deeper study as well as a guidefor a series of 6 discussions. Theprogram looks at four areas of

focus: telling the story of your spiritual journey through the lens of race; lookingat the dynamic of a culture in which whiteness is the established norm; learninghow America attaches a cash value to whiteness; and inviting the participants tocommit to becoming an ally in the pursuit of racial equity. The team for Racial Justice and Healing will be offering this program inSeptember and October as a way to deepen our own understandings. Boots, Bags, And Tents,Summer VersionOur Strafford Community Action Partnership (CAP)friends report that the homeless need hand sanitizer, sunscreen, canned food (the pull-top kind), and sleepingbags throughout the summer. If your pantry or yourcloset is overflowing, please consider donating some ofthese items to help the homeless. You may simply dropthem off in the food bins at the Atrium entrance to theChurch. Items useful to the homeless will be relayed toour CAP partner for distribution to those in need. Members and friends of our Church were very generousto those in our community who lacked shelter this pastwinter. Warm weather changes the conditions of livingwithout shelter, but the needs are still great. Thank you for your generosity!First Parish Church Mission and Action Board

An Update from the Seacoast InterfaithSanctuary Coalition (SISC):Did You Know: Bite Size Information onImmigrant Detention

14 th entry in the “Did you know” series by theSeacoast Interfaith Sanctuary Coalition. Where and How People are Picked Up andDetainedDid you know…. While some people are detainedat the border, many others are picked up withinthe United States. This includes many people whohave been living in the U.S. for years. They can be

detained even when they report for a mandatory check-in at local ICE offices orcourt (as happened with many of our Indonesian neighbors). Others aredetained when they have a minor encounter with the police such as speeding ora broken tail light. They may be picked up at their homes, while watching theirchild’s soccer games, or on a day-trip to the White Mountains. In short, there aretimes when an individual knows they are about to be detained, and other times
