TRANSCRIPT
The UANL SPIE Student Chapter members conduct research on optical and photonic sciences applied to
solving a variety of problems and needs of our society. Therefore, looking for support energy and
environmental sustainability for our planet we have initiated a research branch for projects of optics and
photonics applied to sustainability.
Therefore, the Facultad de Ciencias Físico Matemáticas have decided to support the realization of this
event as it will contribute greatly to the dissemination of applied science to sustainability. Although our
specialty is optics, we are aware of the importance of all branches of science, so we conducted a
multidisciplinary symposium to present various topics.
A goal for this year SOASE – FOCUS was the celebration of the International Year of Light 2015, for it, we
include a special section, including an opening conference “1000 years of history of Light” given by Dra.
Ana Maria Cetto Kramis, member of the International Committee for the International Year of Light 2015
and General Coordinator of the National Committee for the International Year of Light.
The SOASE – FOCUS first day was dedicated to non-technical conferences including topics related to
teamwork, leadership, entrepreneurship, career planning, business model and technological
development. By the end of the day a Light Outreach Games was performed with 4 participants and a
Khet 2.0 matches.
Teamwork by Mr. Agustín Flores

María Cetto Kramis IYL conference, then, technical conferences were given, including topics of quantum
mechanics, the 100 years of general relativity and by the end of the day we have student talks and poster
session. The winners for the student sessions were:

SOASE FOCUS have around 200 assistants (local) and 20 Mexican students from other universities
including:
Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla
Centro de Investigación Científica y Educación Superior de Ensenada
Centro Universitario de Ciencias Exactas e Ingenierías de la Universidad de Guadalajara

This event met the objectives of the International Year of Light and bring students together in this
celebration. The Mexican Network of students was strengthened, which opens the possibility for more
collaborative events. At the same time, the students were enthusiastically conducting more conferences
FOCUS in Mexico.
