Understanding Unashamedly Ethical

1. What is UE? – a definition + an explanation of the ‘three Foundations’ A definition of Unashamedly Ethical Unashamedly Ethical is a campaign designed to build a global community of people committed to __________, _________ and ________ _________. We are building one __________ community by forming many ________ communities of Unashamedly Ethical signatories all over the world.

The Three Foundations The Unashamedly Ethical campaign is built upon three ‘Foundations’, which every local UE community has in common. These three foundational elements are what ______ our entire global community together:

These public commitments are made using the relevant Unashamedly Ethical Commitment Forms which are available on our website: www.unashamedlyethical.com.

There are 8 different UE commitment forms:

_____________________________________

In summary The Unashamedly Ethical campaign is built on three Foundations:

1) Challenging people to publicly commit themselves to ethics, values and clean living 2) Listing all signatories on an Online Directory 3) Holding all signatories accountable through a presiding Ombudsman

Every local community is built upon these three Foundations. It is these three Foundations which bring your local signatories together. They form the ‘________ ____ ________’ of your community. They also bind all local UE communities together to form one global UE community.

THE UNASHAMEDLY ETHICAL CODE OF CONDUCT Obviously, as a campaign we cannot receive complaints and act against every possible ethical transgression in our signatories’ lives. We have to limit the scope of what the Ombudsman can be involved in. Accordingly, this Code of Conduct defines the scope of the Ombudsman’s role. Only transgressions of this Code are eligible for investigation by the Ombudsman.

UNASHAMEDLY ETHICAL'S CODE OF CONDUCT Members shall be honest and ethical in all their business dealings, including but not limited to:

1. That members refuse to elicit, accept or pay any bribes, and to report those who do. 2. That members negotiate and award all contracts with integrity. 3. That members take no part in price fixing, collusion, fronting or misrepresentation of their

business credentials and/or contributions to transformation. 4. That members pay their taxes. 5. That members pay reasonable salaries and wages, and pay them on time. 6. That members treat their employees with dignity.

2. How to do it – the master plan Building Community Our goal is to form local communities of signatories all over the world. The forming of communities is our goal, because community relationships are most often the source of _________ ___________. What is a ‘Community’?

1) Communities form when there is a common ___________ and/or a common ___________. Our common crisis: the moral decay we see in our world. Our common cause: standing together for ethics, values and clean living.

2) Community implies growing ______________.

Building a successful community requires ongoing personal contact (fellowship) between members/signatories.

3) Community implies mutual ______________. We all require consistently good teaching and encouragement from those gifted to do so. Local UE communities are encouraged to come together regularly to hear good speakers, thereby encouraging one another, and stirring one another up to love and good works.

To start your local Unashamedly Ethical community, it is highly likely you will be targeting a unique ‘community’ to draw people from. Every human being finds themselves in unique communities. Here are a few examples of communities that you might be a part of:

a geographic community a school community

a business organization a social community

an industry a sporting community

a church community an ethnic community

an age-specific community a hobbies community

You may decide to target just one, or a combination of the communities that you are a part of, but here’s the key point to understand:

“I can ______ ______ ____ ______ ______!”

What communities can you reach?

STEP #1 – THE LOCAL COMMITTEE Forming your local Unashamedly Ethical committee

Nothing great can be accomplished ____________.

_______ __ _______ of people who are influential and respected in your chosen community.

Approach them ____________ in a professional way, inviting them to sit on your committee: o Show them the “Vision of Unashamedly Ethical” video. o Use the Unashamedly Ethical website to help you. o Go through this workbook together.

What commitment are you expecting from your committee members? Committee members must be UE ______________, and committed to the long-term transformation of their region, and as such should be encouraged to commit to the following:

1. Meeting as a committee at least ______________ (perhaps even monthly). 2. Remaining ______________ for an agreed upon term after the initial launch event. 3. Organizing regular Unashamedly Ethical networking ______________.

STEP #2 – THE LAUNCH Your official UE local launch event

Your launch event constitutes the ______________ of your local UE community.

Some suggestions for your launch event Each of your ____________ ____________ will be key for marketing the event as widely as possible. Make sure that you have distributed an Individual Commitment form to every guest. Then try to ensure that your speaker/s covers the following topics:

1) The speaker should highlight some of the ______________ you face in your community regarding unethical conduct and unclean living.

2) The speaker should share the ______________ of the Unashamedly Ethical campaign – use the UE video to help with this. The video can be downloaded here: http://unashamedlyethical.com/resources-2/videos/

3) The speaker at your launch event must explain the ____ ___________________ upon which the campaign is built.

4) It is helpful to explain the importance of __________________ ___________________ in all of our lives – how most great changes in our lives come about through relationships. Being part of a healthy community helps us grow! This can then lead the speaker to discuss the formation of your local UE community, stressing the importance of fostering growing relationships within it.

5) The speaker should read through the 10 individual commitments with everyone and ______________ the audience to sign the UE Individual Commitment Form. Collect the forms afterwards and enter them onto the UE website (when capturing new signatories link each signatory to your local community on that page).

6) Lastly, the speaker must explain how ________ ______________ is going to work, and when the next meeting will be.

Page 10: The Unashamedly Ethicalunashamedlyethical.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/UE-Local... · Multiplication pg 13 ... The Unashamedly Ethical campaign is built upon three Foundations,

STEP #3 – BUILDING COMMUNITY

Developing a strong local ‘UE community’

Networking meetings

One of the primary ways of building a long-term, strengthening local community of UE signatories is to organize ‘Unashamedly Ethical networking meetings’.

Tips for successful networking meetings. 1) Try to meet together as a community at least ________ ___ _______________. 2) Invite high quality ______________, normally focussing their talk around one of the 10 UE

commitments. 3) Advertise the event to your community ___________. Start at least __ _______ in advance. 4) Select a comfortable venue. If required, charge a fee in keeping with your _______ member. 5) Allow time for your members and guests to _______ with each other – perhaps about what

the speaker said. 6) Consistently seek to introduce non-members (non-signatories) to your community. For this

reason, encourage your members to bring ______________. 7) Always have commitment forms at the events and ______________ the guests to sign it (for

the benefit of your visitors who are not yet signatories).

“One of my strongest recommendations is that you theme your meetings on the 10 UE Individual Commitments. Each month pick a different commitment and ask a good speaker to use this as his/her topic. You can even do the same with the Organizational Commitments. This ensures that your community ‘stays on track’ and the environment you build never drifts too far from where it needs to be.” – Cape Town local community leader

Relationships grow when people spend time together.

Page 11: The Unashamedly Ethicalunashamedlyethical.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/UE-Local... · Multiplication pg 13 ... The Unashamedly Ethical campaign is built upon three Foundations,

10 | P a g e FORMING LOCAL COMMUNITIES AROUND ETHICS, VALUES AND CLEAN LIVING.

Other ways of strengthening your community Start ‘Forums’ within your community It has been well said that the most powerful form of fellowship is _______ _______. By small group, we mean between ___ and ___ people. To maximise the benefit of such meetings it helps to have structured approach. This is what the Forum organization provide.

The benefits of small groups Deep friendships Transparency

Accountability Personal growth

Mutual submission ‘Brotherly’ love

Confidentiality Commitment

Once established, these Forums will meet regularly on their own ____ __________ to the large monthly community networking meetings. It is within these small groups that the real transformation in people’s lives will begin to take place! Your committee will decide when your community is ready to launch Forums. By going to the “FORUMS” at http://unashamedlyethical.com/about-forums/ you can view or download a 10 minute promotional video on Forums to show your community members. There are also more comprehensive tools available on our website to help your local Forum group leaders.

Do something ____________together UE commitments #9 and #10 say “To remember the poor by investing generously and sacrificially in the broader community” and “To collaborate with my peers to impact our community and nation”. A great relationship building exercise will be to see what you as a community can do together to fulfil these commitments.

Let people ____________! Give your members the opportunity in your meetings to share ‘testimonials’ with the rest of the community – stories of how they were challenged in the area of one of the commitments, what they chose to do, and what happened as a result.

Proudly display the UE logo, and support each others’ ___________________. Encourage all community members to display the Unashamedly Ethical logo on their business stationary, vehicles and signage. This will breed ‘team-spirit’ within your community, and is a great way to start conversations with non-members about the cause. This will lead to the growth of your community. Then encourage your members to use each other’s businesses – find ways to stimulate this.

Create an environment where people of all faiths (or no faith) will feel __________. UE is a unique tool to open the doors for you to be able to build relationships with people who would normally not come to your ‘church’.

Other ways to ‘build and strengthen my community’

ADMINISTERING YOUR COMMUNITY 1. Registering your community Your first step is to register your community online:

(i) Sign in to the members area by logging in. This takes you to the MEMBER DASHBOARD. (ii) Scroll down to MY COMMUNITIES and click on START A COMMUNITY. (iii) Enter the details of your community. NOTE:

a. Give your community a good name – something that’s unique and will explain a bit about it, a name which will make it easy to find when people are searching for it.

b. Choose a suitable short and long description of your community – your description should tell people the important details of your community, including geographic location, target audience, meeting schedules, unique aspects, etc. If you want people to find you online then you must make your descriptions comprehensive.

2. Capturing signatories At all of your events, especially your launch event, you will receive a pile of hard-copy tear of slips from the brochures. These individuals and organizations need to be entered into the Unashamedly Ethical website? Why…

(i) So that they will be _______________ on the ______________ _____________________.

(ii) So that they will be __________________ to your _____________________________.

Step 1 To enter the forms, use the “JOIN US NOW” link www.unashamedlyethical.com. Remember that you need to log out before you can register a new signatory. Step 2 At the bottom of the REGISTRATION SUCCESSFUL page, you will find an option to search and join new members to a community.

3. Administering your community The online community system will enable you to…

1) …keep track of new signatories. You will be able to download a spreadsheet. You can use this for communication.

2) …upload new events. Once you have loaded an event online all of your linked members will automatically be notified by e-mail and on their personal UE member’s page.

Page 14: The Unashamedly Ethicalunashamedlyethical.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/UE-Local... · Multiplication pg 13 ... The Unashamedly Ethical campaign is built upon three Foundations,

Multiplication

Unashamedly Ethical is all about ______________ ______________. Each person within your community is plugged into ______________ communities. They will attract people that you will not. Multiplication therefore lifts the ceiling of growth! UE communities are therefore encouraged to ______________.

Over time you must:

1. ______________ potential leaders within your UE community. 2. Spend __________ with them, carefully ______________ them using this workbook

(available on your member’s section on the website). 3. Look for the right time to ________ ________ _______ to start their own UE communities. 4. Once they have started their own community, ongoing one-on-one ______________ is

essential for at least the first 12 – 24 months.

Don’t get too attached to your community! “A healthy community is like a peaceful pool of water in a fast flowing mountain stream. The fresh water in the pool only stays fresh and clean if the water in it keeps flowing out and fresh water keeps flowing in. Our job is to find leaders, train them and then LET THEM LEAD!”

Page 15: The Unashamedly Ethicalunashamedlyethical.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/UE-Local... · Multiplication pg 13 ... The Unashamedly Ethical campaign is built upon three Foundations,

14 | P a g e FORMING LOCAL COMMUNITIES AROUND ETHICS, VALUES AND CLEAN LIVING.

The importance of the regular gathering of leaders together

Don’t take this journey ______________! If you regularly spend time with other UE community leaders you will learn much from each other and be encouraged to continue your good work. Bright ideas:

Why not register a “community of community leaders” on the UE website and meet together regularly!

Find one other UE community leader with whom you can form an “accountability partnership”. Speak regularly, encourage each other, advise each other and hold each other accountable.

Keep an eye out for invitations from us for leadership events and try not to miss them!

_______________________________________________________

WHAT IS UNASHAMEDLY ETHICAL?

Unashamedly Ethical is a campaign promoting ethics, values and clean living. We facilitate

the forming of local Unashamedly Ethical communities all over the world. Our founder and

chairman is South African businessman Graham Power.

HOW THE CAMPAIGN WORKS

The campaign is built upon three pillars, around which local communities form:

1. A challenge to people to make a public commitment to ‘good values, ethics and

clean living’.

2. An online directory of all signatories (organizations and individuals).

3. A presiding Ombudsman who holds all signatories accountable, and who will review

written complaints against any signatory.

THE COMMITTING TO ETHICS WORKSHOP

WHY A WORKSHOP?

For individuals to make the UE

commitment, they need to delve

into what each of the 10

commitments means. The aim of the

workshop is therefore for individuals

to jointly engage with the

commitments and to discover for

themselves ways of applying the

values within their lives.
