First Circular – Call for Papers

The Ussher Society is pleased to announce that the 57th Annual Conference will be held at the Falmouth Hotel, Falmouth, Cornwall, from the evening of Wednesday 3rd to Saturday 6th January 2018. This 3-day conference for earth and environmental scientists, working in south-west England and related areas, comprises two days of presentations and a one day field excursion. Following registration and an Icebreaker reception on the evening of Wednesday 3rd January, the presentation days will be Thursday 4th and Friday 5th of January – oral and/or poster presentations will be welcomed in all areas of the geosciences relating to South-west England. The field excursion is on Saturday 6th January 2018. CONFERENCE PROGRAMMEWe are actively seeking contributions to the programme so if you are able to present a talk or poster, please provide details on the enclosed form by latest Monday 6th November. We look forward to receiving papers covering a wide range of topics relating to geoscience in south-west England. All presenting authors are strongly encouraged to submit their paper for publication, following peer review, in the Society’s journal ‘Geoscience in South-West England’.

A limited number of bursaries are available to contribute towards the cost of full-time students presenting a paper or poster - contact Chris Yeomans for details: conference@ussher.org.uk.

geosciences laboratories, British Geological Survey), entitled: “All about the timing: bringing geochronology in SW England up to date”

The Annual General Meeting will be held at the end of the afternoon session The Conference Dinner will be in the Falmouth Hotel at 19.30 for 20:00

Friday 5th January 2018 Presentations: oral and poster presentations

Saturday 6th January 2018 (low tide (Falmouth) 2:45 pm) Post conference field excursion: We are planning a post-conference field excursion which takes advantage of the excellent geology in south Cornwall. We will be visiting localities around the Helford Passage and surrounding areas to look at the Devonian lithostratigraphy and Variscan tectonic evolution of south Cornwall. More information will be provided in the 2nd Circular. Please inform us if you are interested in participating on the field excursion on the conference booking form attached.
