Chapter OneFIND THE TREASURE!

Everyone loves treasure! Everyone, everywhere is looking for something tosatisfy, fulfill and secure his or her life.People want authentic hope! People de-sire real help!

Most treasure needs to be found. You have to look for it! You have to de-sire it and want it. Are you looking forthe kind of Treasure that can thrill youand be your full supply? If so, then Ihave some very good news for you.

This is why I want to talk with youabout the Treasure! Really! The authen-tic Treasure! Not something that ischeap or temporary. This is the Treas-

7

Page 9: The Value of the Treasure

ure you have always been looking for…It is the Treasure of God’s unconditionallove and acceptance of you!

Jesus spoke of the Treasure this way,

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is liketreasure hidden in a field, which a manfound and hid; and for joy over it he goesand sells all that he has and buys thatfield.” Matthew 13:44

In this parable, a man found aTreasure hidden in a field. In order tosecure the Treasure he hides it again –and then because of the massive joy overthe Treasure, he buys a field!

Think about that! This man did a realestate transaction, without appraisingthe value of the field. He only wasmoved by the value of the Treasure thatinfluenced his heart! The Treasuremade him happy, and it gave himenough joy to move him to find the re-

8

Page 10: The Value of the Treasure

sources to buy the entire field! What does this story tell us? What

is Jesus saying?

When you know and believe thatGod loves you COMPLETELY, every-thing about you can change! Every-thing! Many people do not know howto value this Treasure, so their hearts arenot moved with joy, and life continuesto be a routine of tradition, fear, worryand drudgery.

But when you find the Treasure, and you know and believe that God ac-cepts you as you are, and not as youneed to be, suddenly your heart can bestirred with overwhelming surprise andgreat joy! God’s love for you, and ac-ceptance of you, is really that good!

You really can find the treasure ofGod’s love for you! But where do youlook? At the cross of Jesus Christ! Jesuscame to the earth (the field) to reveal to

9

Page 11: The Value of the Treasure

you the heart of the Father. In His life, you can see by His teaching, and Histouch, that He brought a full supply ofGod’s goodness. When you see Jesus inHis life, you can understand that Godis good to you! He is not mad at you,He is mad about you. He longs for re-lationship with you.

However, it is at the cross where thisTreasure of God’s love for you isdemonstrated. (Rom 5:8) This is theplace where Love can grip your heart, and free you from every fear! You see,at the cross Jesus took our sin andshame and paid the price with His ownblood! Your sins have been forgivenonce and for all! Think of this; your sinwill never be held against you! Jesus’work – the finished work of the cross –is really what works for you!

“In Him we have redemption through Hisblood, the forgiveness of sins, according tothe riches of His grace.”

10

Page 12: The Value of the Treasure

Ephesians 1:7

In fact, when you see Jesus in Hisdeath and resurrection, you can see thatyou are good to God! In Christ youhave become the righteousness of God!Now that is a thrilling Treasure.

“For He made Him who knew no sin tobe sin for us, that we might become therighteousness of God in Him.”2 Corinthians 5:21

The Treasure of God’s love for youis the revelation of what Jesus has done! You see, because of Jesus and what Hehas done, you are assured that Godloves you completely! The Lamb ofGod has taken away your sin – and thesin of the whole world! (1 John 2:2)Does that mean anything to you? Doesthat make your heart swell with joy?Can this Treasure be true for you?

Think about it. God is for you! He

11

Page 13: The Value of the Treasure

is not counting your sins against you! (2Cor 5:18) Really! You are clean! Youare forgiven! You are loved! You are ac-cepted! Believe it! Accept the Treasureof God’s love and acceptance of you.

“For I will be merciful to their unright-eousness, and their sins and their lawlessdeeds I will remember no more.” Hebrews 8:12

When you find the Treasure, Ipromise you that your heart will bestirred with astonishment! This Treas-ure really sounds unreal, in fact itsounds too good to be true. But alltreasure has that effect on your mindand soul. It is like, “Can this really be?Am I really okay with God? Is my ac-ceptance to the Father based on Jesus?Or is my acceptance before God basedon me and my personal performanceand religious duty?”

When your heart is sufficiently

12

Page 14: The Value of the Treasure

awed by God’s love and acceptance ofyou, it will move you to action! Whenthe Treasure has control of your heart, you are changed. You will want to pos-sess the Treasure and experience the joyof the Treasure in your everyday life.

When you look to Jesus – He is theTreasure – faith flows to you! Believingis now easy; it is part of your naturalspiritual make-up that Christ forms inyou. You now have the faith of God toaccept what God has done for you inChrist Jesus. And when you believe byfaith – which simply means you are ‘allin’ – you will know that that you are inthe Treasure and the Treasure is in you!You are in Christ, and Christ is in you!

This is the mystery of the Treasure. This is the mystery of the good news! Itis Christ in you!

“To them God willed to make knownwhat are the riches of the glory of this mys-

13

tery among the Gentiles: which is Christin you, the hope of glory.”Colossians 1:27

Jesus is your righteousness beforeGod. In fact, Jesus is God’s opinion ofyou! The Treasure of Jesus is your every-thing! And you are complete in Him!Don’t worry! Just be happy! And letyour heart be flooded with joy!

Treasure the Treasure! Let God love youtoday!

Chapter TwoVALUE THE TREASURE

Once you find the Treasure (know-ing God’s complete love and acceptanceof you in Christ) it now becomes nec-essary to place a value on the Treasure. What is God’s love and acceptance ofyou really worth? Have you ever ap-praised the value of His love for you?

Usually when people talk of ap-praising the value of something, theythink in terms of things that are physi-cal or natural – like the value of a houseor a piece of property. But how do youappraise the value of something that isspiritual and everlasting? How do youappraise the value of the Treasure ofLove?

15

Page 17: The Value of the Treasure

Jesus again told a parable to help usconsider valuing the Treasure:

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like amerchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of greatprice, went and sold all that he had andbought it.”Matthew 13:45-46

Jesus uses a story of a natural treas-ure, to help us consider the value ofHim – the spiritual Treasure!

Until the Treasure gets your atten-tion, until you are astonished at theTreasure, you probably will not give theTreasure any consideration – let alonego to the effort of appraising the valueof it.

In like fashion, unless the unmer-ited love and acceptance you have inChrist astonishes you, you will probablynot yield to the influence and love ofthe Treasure to bring any dramatic

16

Page 18: The Value of the Treasure

transformation to your life, whetheremotionally, physically or any otherway.

This is why we must focus on theTreasure so we can fully value God’s loveand acceptance of us as we are. Whenwe believe this, it will thrill our heartsand transform our lives.

Years ago my wife Heidi and I werein Brussels, Belgium. We were on aministry preaching tour in Europe, andwe had a day off to relax and see thecity. After taking a bus tour, we decidedto casually walk through an older dis-trict of the city, full of quaint shops andold antique jewelry stores.

As we were window shopping, look-ing at the antique jewelry, suddenly asmall ring in the window got my wife’sattention! “Oh Keith,” Heidi com-mented, “This ring is beautiful! I reallylove that ring.”

17

Page 19: The Value of the Treasure

Suddenly, I had a decision to make.Based on the joy and pleasure my wifehad on seeing a treasure (ring) shefound, it was now imperative for me tovalue or appraise the treasure. This way,I could know if the treasure could be ac-quired and bring an ongoing joy andpleasure into my wife’s life.

However, I could not value the ringon the outside of the shop, peeringthrough the window. Instead, I had tomake a decision to come through thedoor and enter the store.

Once on the inside, I spoke to theshop owner, and he got the ring out ofthe window shelf, and put it in myhand. When the treasure is handled, ithas a different effect on you than justcasually seeing something through ashop window, or peering at somethingin the distance.

I was then able to slip the ring on

18

Page 20: The Value of the Treasure

Heidi’s finger, and see the joy on herface – knowing how much she lovedthis little antique ring.

That day I bought Heidi the ring!It is still a ‘treasure’ that brings herpleasure every time she wears it…

In like fashion, when you see theTreasure of Jesus, and what He has doneto qualify you before the Father, the wayyou enjoy what you have seen, is not tolive as an ‘outsider’ looking in, but byfaith coming through the ‘door’ of Jesusand realizing your acceptance in God!You are now family – not an outsider, but an insider! You have all the rightsand privileges of being a son and daugh-ter!

“For you died, and your life is hidden withChrist in God.” Colossians 3:3

Because of the birth, death and res-urrection of Jesus, your life is hidden

19

Page 21: The Value of the Treasure

with Christ in God! By faith, you havetaken your place in the Treasure, andthe Treasure is in you!

When you accept your acceptancein Him everything changes! You be-come a new creation. Your spirit is aliveunto God!

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is anew creation; old things have passed away;behold, all things have become new.”2 Corinthians 5:17

When we have our gaze and focuson what the Lamb of God has done forus on the cross, we can live in awe at thebeauty and grace of the Treasure. Wefind ourselves stepping through theDoor taking our place in Him – for-given, redeemed and fulfilled.

Seeing and believing the Treasurechanges everything. Your heart will beso encouraged in knowing of God’s love

20

Page 22: The Value of the Treasure

for you…

“That their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attainingto all riches of the full assurance of under-standing, to the knowledge of the mysteryof God, both of the Father and of Christ,in whom are hidden all the treasures ofwisdom and knowledge.”Colossians 2:2-3

Everything you could ever want isin Jesus Christ! All the treasure of Godis in Him! Look to Him and bethrilled! Let your heart be happy! Re-ceive of His love.

It really is true, God loves you com-pletely! This is the Treasure! It is Hiscomplete and unconditional love andacceptance of you. Find it! Value it! Ac-cept it! Believe and call the Treasureyour own.

21

Page 23: The Value of the Treasure

Chapter ThreeEXPERIENCE THE TREASURE

When we left that little antique jew-elry shop that day, Heidi’s face was ra-diant. She was wearing a treasure thathad captured her heart!

This is really what happens to eachof us when we accept the Treasure ofJesus and what He has done for us. Webecome like Him, in fact, we becomenew creations. (II Cor 5:17) We havebeen born again. (John 3:3) We are par-takers of divine nature. (II Peter1:3) Weare born from above. We are really fromanother world, as our citizenship is inheaven. (Phil 3:20)

How do you experience the Treas-

Page 25: The Value of the Treasure

ure? Once you believe in Jesus, and arethankful for what He has done for you(forgiving all your sins, and qualifyingyou before the Father), how do you ac-tually enjoy the experience of His life inyour life?

Well, just like Heidi wears the ringto enjoy that treasure, in like fashionyou ‘wear’ the Lord Jesus Christ! Thescripture says that you can ‘put on’ theLord Jesus and be ‘clothed in the love ofGod’

“Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect har-mony.” Colossians 3:14, NLT

Notice the effect on you when youwear the reality of God’s love and ac-ceptance of you. You can enjoy yourself. You can enjoy your life. And youcan enjoy those around you too!

Do you know that the Treasure of

24

Page 26: The Value of the Treasure

God’s love for you, and your eternal ac-ceptance before God is what will solveall the problems in your life and bringthe transformation and changes in youthat you have always desired.

Remember the story Jesus told ofthe Prodigal son and his older brother?(Luke 15:11-32) Jesus explained thatthe younger son took his inheritancemoney from his father and went away– far away – to live a fun, wild and crazylife – outside of the influence of his fa-ther. The prodigal enjoyed his sinfulpleasures for a season, but his fun sooncame to a crashing halt. His life spiraledto a pigpen of pain – angry, broke, abused, misused – just plain messed up!

What did the prodigal do? Hethought of his father’s love. Thought ofhis father’s house. When your mind be-gins to reconsider who the Father reallyis, and what the Father really has foryou, the power of the Treasure will draw

25

Page 27: The Value of the Treasure

you back into the Father’s presence.

However, even though the youngprodigal thought he still had to qualifyfor his father’s love and blessing, hestarted his journey home. He thoughthe had to earn it, so he rehearsed his re-pentance speech and prepared himselfto have a good work ethic. This way hewould have something good to show hisfather concerning himself…

But the Father surprised him on hislong walk home – by running to meethim where he was, and as he was – dirty, guilty and empty!

And what did the father do? Con-demn him? Judge him? Scold him?No! The Father loved him! Huggedhim! Kissed him! Held him! BlessedHim!

The father wouldn’t even listen tohis son’s repentance speech. In fact, he

26

Page 28: The Value of the Treasure

would not allow his son to finish His re-pentance and confession of sins. Thefather accepted him as he was and andentered into a celebration! What a sur-prise! What love…

The best way to experience theTreasure of God’s love for you is to ac-cept the Father’s view of you, and notyour own view of you! You see, the Fa-ther always sees you through the fin-ished work of the Son! This is why youlook good (righteous) to God! Theblood of the spotless lamb has made youspotless before God! So celebrate!Enjoy the party the Father wants tocontinually give you…

Some people never enjoy the Treas-ure of God’s love, because they reallycan’t believe that they look good toGod. They really do not believe that alltheir sin for all time was forgiven onceand for all. Some continually lose thejoy of their salvation, and they are al-

27

Page 29: The Value of the Treasure

ways ‘working’ to do more, to qualifyfor their acceptance in the Father’shouse. They don’t know if it is reallytrue, concerning the Father’s view ofthem.

This was the case with the father’selder son. During the party, the fatherwent and found him in the house, buthe would not come and celebrate the re-turn of his brother. He couldn’t see thebrother the way the father saw him! Sohe complained! He then tried to qualifyhimself before his own father, by hisown work ethic. The story never indi-cates if this self-sufficient older brotherever came to the party, or ever learnedto enjoy the father’s love and accept-ance. (Luke 15:28-30)

This is really a picture of some peo-ple, who live in the Father’s house, butnever enjoy His company. They are al-ways ‘busy’ doing the ‘work’ of the Lord– but never enjoying the Lord. They al-

28

Page 30: The Value of the Treasure

ways want their efforts to qualify themfor their blessing, instead of beingblessed solely and completely by the suf-ficiency of the One, Jesus Christ.

The best way to experience theTreasure is to simply have a trustingheart in the Father’s complete love andacceptance of you! When you let theFather love you, and you clothe yourselfin the revelation of your acceptance –you will be rooted and grounded in Hislove and enjoy His continued manifoldblessing and goodness.

Let the Father love you right now!He is running toward you! With openarms! Let Him embrace you, kiss you,and hold you too! He will never let yougo, because from His point of view youare eternally clean and righteous beforeHim in love!

Chapter FourSHARE THE TREASURE!

Ever since that eventful day when Ibought Heidi her treasured antiquering, I would always get pleasure to seeher ‘share’ the joy of her treasured ringwith friends and family. The ring be-came of point of awe as well as a pointof conversation.

In the same way, when the love ofGod in Christ thrills your heart, youcannot help but to be in awe of theTreasure of your eternal acceptance be-fore God, and talk of His wondrouslove for you. In essence, you ‘share thelove.’

The Treasure Himself, the Well ofLiving Water, once astonished and

Page 33: The Value of the Treasure

transformed a prominent outsiderknown as the Samaritan Woman. (John4) Once this woman found the Treasure(or once the Treasure found her!), sheembraced the Treasure and immediatelybegan to share the Treasure with herwhole town! She announced the newsin her own way, according to her owngifting and personality. She was over-flowing with the joy of the Treasure ofGod’s love and grace that had been ex-tended toward her. She was over-whelmed at how this Living Water hadcome flowing in with no condemnationor judgment attached to it. Jesus hadknown every skeleton in her closet, andyet filled her with new life and hope de-spite all her shortcomings!

This is what is thrilling! It is an-nouncing the news to people that theyare good with God – right now! Thinkof it! This little Samarian lady had atough life – several marriages, and theguy she was presently living with was

32

Page 34: The Value of the Treasure

not her husband. It sounds like herstory may have been full of pain, heartache and rejection!

Do you notice what authentic, un-conditional love and acceptance does topeople? It astonishes them with surpriseand eventually joy! Notice that Jesus’acceptance of her was based on the Fa-ther’s view of her, not according toman’s eyes, or the point of view of reli-gious moralism to qualify! It was justthe pure Living Water – doing onlywhat Living Water can do –washing/pronouncing people clean!(John 4)

To share the Love – you have to bebold enough to announce this truth!God loves you completely! You have tobe bold enough to believe that God ac-cepts you as you are, and not as youneed to be!

Can you announce to people “you

33

Page 35: The Value of the Treasure

are clean!”? Can you see people fromGod’s perspective? Can you see peoplethrough the lens of Jesus Christ and re-veal to them the Treasure of theirbelovedness and acceptance to Godthrough Jesus Christ? The Apostle Petereventually got this revelation! After Godshowed him a vision from heaven, Petersaid, “God has shown me that I should notcall anyone impure or unclean!” (Acts10:28)

On the day that Jesus was raisedfrom the dead, He secured our salvationand established the New Covenant ofgrace. Through His finished work Heconquered death, hell and the grave. Then in the instructions Jesus gave tothe disciples to “go into all the world,”it was for the purpose of preaching theGospel, the Good News – sharing theLove! The Great Commission is simplysharing the Treasure of what Jesus hasdone for everyone, everywhere! We canannounce it in a way so faith will come

34

Page 36: The Value of the Treasure

to the hearts of men and women, andthey will believe and receive their right-ful place in Christ.

Jesus actually gives clarity to the dis-ciples, on the day of His resurrection, when He gives them a ‘surprise visit.’Actually, before the meeting with all thedisciples, He starts with two of the dis-ciples, walking on the road to Emmaus.(Luke 24:13-35)

These two were discouraged, frus-trated, confused and angry. They didnot understand the Mystery of God’slove, and the way the Treasure wasworking. So as Jesus joined them ontheir journey, in his physical yet spiri-tual body, they didn’t even recognizeHim! So Jesus just listened to their con-fusion and tried to comfort them bypreaching to them concerning Himselffrom the law of Moses, the Psalms andthe Prophets! Jesus was preaching fromthe Old Covenant to reveal Himself and

35

Page 37: The Value of the Treasure

announce the Treasure of God’s loveand acceptance for all people and na-tions in the New Covenant.

Unfortunately, the two still didn’t‘get it.’ So after the long journey, Jesussits down to share a meal. He breaksbread! Suddenly, they see Him for whoHe is – and He vanishes! (Luke 24:31)

Think of this; the revelation of whoJesus is, was not seen or recognized bythe disciples in the physical body ofJesus. But they saw Jesus in the revela-tion of the broken bread – representingHis body broken and given to them atthe cross! (Luke 22:19-20)

God’s love for you, and His love forthe whole world, is revealed anddemonstrated in the death of Jesus! (Ro-mans 5:8) This is why we preach themessage of the cross! (I Cor 1:23) Tothe world it is foolishness, but to us whobelieve, it is the power of God! (I Cor

36

Page 38: The Value of the Treasure

1:18) The Treasure of God’s love and ac-

ceptance of you, is revealed in the deathand risenness of Jesus! This is what wepreach! This is what we share! Sharethe love – let people know they are goodto God because of the Lamb of God!Righteousness with God is a giftgranted, not something earned, attainedor merited. Jesus became sin, so wemight be made the righteousness ofGod in Christ! (II Cor 5:21)

When Jesus continued His ‘surprisevisit’ to all the disciples, He calmed thefears of the disciples by the revelation ofHimself, through His death and rising, and by showing them the physicalwounds of His body. Jesus then gavethe disciples the framework of how toshare the Love…

“Then He said to them, “Thus it is writ-ten, and thus it was necessary for theChrist to suffer and to rise from the dead

37

Page 39: The Value of the Treasure

the third day, and that repentance and re-mission of sins should be preached in Hisname to all nations, beginning atJerusalem.” Luke 24:46-47

The Great Commission is to an-nounce that through the death and ris-ing of Jesus our sins have been forgivenby God and forgotten by God! (Heb8:12)

Everyone, everywhere is called to re-pent – change the way they think aboutGod – and respond by faith to His greatlove provided for them in Christ! TheSpirit of Grace will move in the heartsof people in every nation, every tribe, every tongue and every kindred. Wecan all repent of the sin of not believingon Jesus! (John 16:8-9) Now, we canreceive of His life. This is the Treasure!

To share the love, is to announcethe news of the perfect work of theLamb of God, which perfects us eter-

38

Page 40: The Value of the Treasure

nally! (Heb 10:14)

What amazing love! What amazinggrace! What an amazing Treasure!

Does the Treasure have a hold ofyour heart? Does it move you to faithfilled action? Just cooperate now withthe wooing of the Spirit in your heartand soul! Believe! Receive! Change theway you think about your acceptancebefore the Father! God loves you com-pletely!

The truth of the matter is simplythis; we have a Treasure in an earthenvessel!

“But we have this treasure in earthen ves-sels, that the excellence of the power maybe of God and not of us.” 2 Corinthians4:7

Christ in you, the hope of glory!

39

Page 41: The Value of the Treasure

“To them God willed to make knownwhat are the riches of the glory of this mys-tery among the Gentiles: which is Christin you, the hope of glory.” Colossians 1:27

The Treasure is in you, so drawfrom His infinite supply today! Beholdthe beauty of the Treasure!

Be loved! And take your place inthe Beloved!

“To the praise of the glory of His grace, bywhich He made us accepted in theBeloved.” Ephesians 1:6

40

Page 42: The Value of the Treasure

Let Your Heart Be Moved!

Is your heart moved with the Treas-ure of God’s love and acceptance of you?If so, why don’t you take a moment – abelieving moment – and agree withGod’s view of you in Christ!

Simple prayers like this, changeyou! This is how you can yield to theTruth of the Treasure, Jesus Christ – andreceive His love for you. This is howyou receive Him, knowing He is wel-coming you, and inviting you into fam-ily – inviting you into fellowship!

“But as many as received Him, tothem He gave the right to become childrenof God, to those who believe in His name.”(John 1:12)

Page 43: The Value of the Treasure

When you believe in His love andacceptance of you, you recognize that atthe cross Jesus took your sin, and youwere given and granted His righteous-ness. You are Born Again! (John 3:3)

By believing in Jesus – His deathand resurrection – you can now confessthat He is Lord! (Rom 10:9-10) He isyour source and sufficiency in this life, and the life that is to come! Enjoy Hislove for you! Just say – or pray – thisbrief prayer.

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for loving me completely! You love me as I am – with all my sin, weaknesses, brokenness and baggage!Father, You are not disappointed withme, for Jesus has come to save me!Thank you Father for your Son, Jesus– the Lamb of God – who has takenaway all my sins. I repent of my false
