A project that looks to reimagine and reinvigorate the local news scene by creating a beautifully designed, insightful newspaper written by young, talented journalists. Stament of principles The Vanguard is the newspaper of tomorrow; instead of chronically writing yesterday’s news, it focuses on publishing in anticipation of the future. It looks to do a broad coverage of the important news instead of a broad coverage of trivial issues. It is the paper that has shifted from the news to the meaning and views business, the newspaper that, instead of focusing on conflicts and problems, goes out to find solutions. It is the newspaper that pushes aside “fast food news” for “caviar journalism.” A different newspaper The Vanguard is 100 per cent local, made by local people, for local people, about local issues. A truly Calgarian paper. We are a social enteprise that looks to build a loyal community around its publication, and looks to connect and interact with its readers. For us a local story is not delimited by geographical boundaries, but it is any story that can directly impact the lives of our readers. Local means personal to us.
