The View From The Hill Your newsletter from Kings Hill Parish Council Winter 2018/19 It was great to see a record turn-out, estimated at over 600 people, on Sunday November 11th for the Kings Hill Remembrance Service, parade and wreath laying. Planning has been a hot topic this last month or so. Based on feelings from councillors and high levels of feedback from residents, the parish council have objected to the TMBC proposed plans to develop Broadwater Farm. At the time of going to print, the council had not made any formal decision on Liberty’s lastest proposed plans, however, we are aware of the strong feelings from residents, particularly about the fields at Amber Lane and I am hopeful that this will be reflected in our formal response. Looking forward, tickets for the synthetic ice rink are selling well and a grand opening is being planned. All that remains for me to do now is to wish all residents a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year. Community Centre Committee The committee have been looking into new initiatives for the Centre and a community cinema is on the agenda for investigation. The big news is that a new hall is going to be built very soon. This is part of the planning conditions for the new homes built on phase 3. A working group has been created to

liaise with the developer to ensure that the new hall meets the needs of the parish council - plans include a large, more ‘upmarket’ function hall with storage for good quality banqueting tables and chairs, and a small kitchen area. Inconsiderate parking continues to be an issue, but with the prospect of Market Square being made into a formal public car park this will ease the problems.

Planning, Highways & Environment CommitteeIt has been a busy few months for this committee with The Local Plan dominating the workload. The council held drop in sessions and leaflets were delivered to publicise the need to respond to the proposed plan for 900 new homes in the Broadwater Farm area, north of Kings Hill. The final draft of the response was agreed at Full Council and the council now await news on the consideration by the Planning Inspectorate. The council has expressed an interest to be involved in these meetings to ensure Kings Hill resident’s views are taken into account. Lobbying continues to improve the pedestrian links to Kent Street and the landowner is now being responsive to resolving these issues. The committee is also working with the borough council to alleviate the parking issues. A full review of the village will take place, starting with the main roads and any ‘hot spot’ areas.

Sports Park CommitteeThe Sports Park facility continues to improve with the finalising of the fencing works to pitch1 and the agreement to proceed with an upgraded CCTV system. The Groundsman has worked wonders with the pitches after the extreme summer and the grounds continue to progress well. The Park has welcomed

several new hirers and subsequently income is increasing. This is the first full season since the parish council decided to bring the café services back ‘in-house’. The menus continue to be developed to suit the needs of the customers and the staff continue to be trained to improve service standards. The Park welcomes the community ice rink in December and we hope that you extend the fun by visiting our cafe and trying our festive menu, with specials for the children.

Events CommitteeThe Events committee formed in May 2018 and have taken the lead in formulating a community events programme for Kings Hill. The synthetic ice rink has been arranged for the Sports Park and the committee are now working on an easter egg hunt, community safety day, a summer concert
