We Believe in Our Reading Program
➢ “By middle school, students have an image of themselves as readers or nonreaders. Students who do not read see reading as a talent that they do not have rather than as an attainable skill.”
➢ Donalyn Miller, The Book Whisperer: Awakening the Inner Reader in Every Child
Read 5 to Avoid the Slide At AMS, our theme is Read Fit. Being a good reader is a little like being physically fit. Research has shown that students who don’t read at all during the summer break lose many of the academic gains they might have made during the year. The reading of just FIVE books during the summer break helps to prevent this loss. We encourage our 6th graders to participate in our summer reading to be Read Fit.
➢5k - Read 5 books and receive an ice cream after school starts!
➢10k - Read 10 or more books, and you will receive an ice cream after school starts AND have your name entered into a drawing for MALCO movie tickets!
➢Be sure to document what you read on your reading log
