Two months of Zoom Facebook Live, YouTube Live, calling, texting, and praying. Thanks to all our faithful, staff and volunteers for doing everything to stay connected.

Archangels Academy We hope that you are all well, staying healthy and doing your best to stay safe. This has been a difficult few
months for everyone. We miss physically being in the classroom with the children. However, we are thrilled
to be running our Zoom eLearning sessions with all of our students (and even parents) participating! It makes
us so very happy to be able to see everyone as they learn virtually! It’s a different platform, but our children
have adapted well. We are so proud of them. Flat Mrs. Sofea has made it to everyone’s house! I love all the
new adventures the children have taken me on. Keep on being creative
2020—2021 School Year Applications for the 2020—2021 School year are still
available. Please be aware that applications are accept-ed on a first come first serve basis with priority given to currently enrolled students, St. Spyridon stewards
and alumni. We have limited space so please plan accordingly.

Father’s Message Christ is Risen! Christ has ascended! The Holy Spirit descends! The Comforter
has come! During these two months of sheltering, I have been amazed by the
work of the Holy Spirit among us made evident in the incredible virtual par-
ticipation in worship, ministering to those in need, staying connected with one
another, supporting our church and working together with patience, compas-
sion, and a loving and grateful heart. I wish to first thank our Saint Spyridon
children for sending beautiful pictures and videos of encouragement and mes-
sages of love. Our incredibly devoted volunteers and staff kept our schools
operating on-line and our students connected with our church and with one
another. So many of our stewards responded to our on-line appeals in sup-
port of the church and of the needy of our community. Included in this issue
are ‘quarantine’ stories of our families who were so kind to share a few of
their experiences during this crisis so that future generations will be inspired
by the way our parish faced these unprecedented and historic times.
We celebrated Holy Week, Pascha, and we are now nearing Pentecost. While
the Paschal season passed without us being gathered together to proclaim the
Resurrection, it is safe to say that virtually our collective voices went far be-
yond our walls as we shared the joy of Pascha in an unforgettable manner.
Understandably, it was different. It lacked so many elements that make up
what we know as the church experience of Pascha. Yet, we discovered the
church in our home, in our family and in our own heart. We discovered in the
quiet and stillness of our quarantine the ability to pray and understand the
comforting presence of the Holy Spirit praying within us.
At the same time, I hope and pray that you had the chance to spend time with
your family, read some good books, picked up a hobby or tackled that home
improvement project that was perpetually on your list. At church, knowing
that there would be no foot traffic for a while, we thought to make the place a
bit brighter. With the help of our volunteers and donors, we changed all the
light fixtures in the classrooms, altar rooms, hallway and kitchen, with all our
parish organizations contributing to this effort. Once we changed the lights,
we realized how dirty our drop ceilings were. A generous donor and a hard
working crew took on the monumental task of changing all the ceiling tiles
and repairing and painting all the track. Our Archangels Academy classroom
was painted along with the altar side rooms, our choir loft stairwell and our
kitchen, once again through the efforts and generosity of our faithful parish-
ioners. All our kitchen equipment and floors are being cleaned. In fact, all the
shelves and cabinets in our kitchen were emptied into the gym which made
for an incredible sight. One does not know how things accumulate until they
laid out on tables filling half our gymnasium. Lastly, we will strip and wax all
the floors so that everything will be fresh and renewed once we return to our
building.
We will not be able to have our festival this year due to the state restrictions
on gatherings. We are still able to support our parish by purchasing the festi-
val raffle ticket that was mailed to your home or by making a festival donation
on our website. In the meantime, please continue to support our local restau-
ranteurs so that they will be able to donate to our festival in 2021. A listing of
our donor restaurants is linked to our parish website. Show your support for

all our businesses and those who are struggling during this crisis, and minister to those among you who are in need. If
the church can help in any way, please let us know.
It is not by accident that we are beginning to return to church on Pentecost. It is all as God wills it. We would have all
liked to be at church for Pascha, yet Pentecost is more significant than Pascha. At the Lord’s Resurrection we can only
stand as witnesses to the joy of the Risen Lord. At Pentecost, by receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit, we actually partici-
pate in the Resurrection of Christ and understand what it means to know Him and live with Him. The descent of the
Holy Spirit cleanses, renews us, transforms us and sanctifies us in a manner beyond understanding. The Holy Spirit is
the Comforter who is coming to bring comfort, consolation and holiness to a suffering world.
As we return to church during the three day celebration of the feast of Pentecost, we will experience the Lord’s Resurrec-
tion, His Ascension, and the Descent of the Holy Spirit all at once, understanding that they are connected, the three great
feasts that opened the path of our salvation. Perhaps from now on, Pentecost will have a new meaning for us, a miracle
of renewed hope, rediscovered priorities, appreciation for things taken for granted, a declaration of what is essential and
a celebration of human nature comforted by the Comforter, filled with the joy of God’s kingdom. Amen. Fr. Tilemahos

During this pandemic situation, we are all realizing the importance of Stewardship as
the primary source of parish support. In situations such as the current state of affairs
where regular candles and trays are limited and by not having a festival this summer, it
is only leaves Stewardship as the way to fund the various ministries of our parish.
Therefore, we appeal to all of you to renew your Stewardship for the current year and
offer what you can to support our parish life. In the meantime, we are also experiencing
additional calls for help with utilities and food assistance, so please donate to our Food
Pantry fund in order to accommodate everyone in need. If you are blessed with contin-
ued employment through this crisis, please be personally mindful of those around you
who are suffering, and consider assisting our parish to continue its ministry to our faith-
ful.
You can offer your donations by mail or on-line through our parish website which is now featuring Tithe.ly
as one of its donation platforms. Everyone’s assistance is greatly appreciated.
We wish to thank the 232 Stewards who have already committed their stewardship for 2020. Stewardship
materials are available on our website.

6 The Voice
Typically, the month of May is filled with much excitement as we come closer to the end of our Sunday School year. We host our annual Bible Bowl, and honor our graduates of both 8th grade, High School and col-lege as well as acknowledge our teachers.
This year, things are a bit different. While we cannot be together physically, we are grateful to see each other
on our Zoom calls. It truly has made us all appreciate the little things that we take for granted. As always, I
would like to thank Father Tilemahos for his spiritual guidance and his weekly sermons which we all learn
from. Many thanks to our dedicated teachers who volunteer their time and talent with us each Sunday. To the
PTA for all their support of our students. Even though Sunday School is coming to a close, we should always
try to learn something more and become closer to our faith. It is a journey that is constantly changing. Even
though we cannot be together in our traditional way, we can still come up with ways to stay connected and be
together and make the best of this.

in the sanctuary. We are limited to 25% capacity while maintaining social distancing. Everyone will still need to reserve
on-line or by phone in order to attend. We are required to keep attendance records which will remain private, in the case
of an attendee testing positive for Covid-19.
If you are feeling ill, or if you are within a high-risk group, we recommend that you shelter at home.
The church doors will be closed and only those who have reserved for the day will be allowed in.
Please come promptly at the beginning of the service. For days with Orthros, please be present by 9:30 a.m.
Every attendee must wear a face mask. In case you forget yours, masks are available at the church.
Hand-sanitizer is available at multiple locations throughout the church. You are encouraged to use them.
Candles will be lit for you by the ushers who will then guide you to your assigned seating area.
While the method of receiving Holy Communion has not changed, the priest and the altar server will be wearing masks while

Philoptochos Dear Parishioners and Friends of Philoptochos,
Christos Anesti!! Christ is Risen!!!
May the celebration of our Holy Pascha and our Lord ’s Resurrection
fill our hearts with love, joy, peace and hope. As we continue through
these difficult times, we must remember we may be apart physically
but we are together as a community. We are blessed to be able to par-
ticipate and stay connected in the beautiful services and liturgies that
Father Tilemahos has on Facebook as well as Bible Study.
As many of you, our Philoptochos members are using social communi-
cation tools to keep in touch and continue to reach out to each other.
We currently have our meetings and updates on ZOOM on Friday eve-
nings. For those not able to access computers, our ladies have also
implemented a calling tree to speak with our community members and stay connected. We
continue to add to our list, so please let me know if you or someone you know should be add-
ed to the list.
This month the ladies of Philoptochos prepared and delivered “Philo” bags for Pascha greet-
ings to members in our community. The bags included our traditional red egg, koulourakia,
paximathia, tsoureki and both re-useable handmade masks and several regular face masks. A
thank you to Jann Kolyvas and Rose Ayaleanos for the making the cloth masks and Toula Geor-
giopoulos and Stella Parhas for the purchased face masks. A special thank you to Olga Paxinos
who coordinated the baking with our ladies and prepared all the bags for delivery; they were
beautiful.
A Happy Mothers Day to everyone. This year we could not celebrate together but we were still
able to honor our mothers, grandmothers, sisters and aunts. We shared the liturgy together,
listened to Father and saw the beautifully decorated icon of the Theotokos. In this edition of
the voice, there is special dedication for Mothers Day. Thank you to all who honored our
mothers and donated to Philoptochos in their honor.
Finally let’s continue to call and reach out to those who may be alone or may need assistance.
We will continue to reach out to our community and assist in any way we can. We pray and
thank all the members of our community who are putting themselves in the front lines to keep
us healthy, safe and fed. May God bless you and keep you safe.
I know we are together in spirit and will soon be back to-
gether in our St. Spyridon Parish.

Hope all is well. I’m excited to share that I believe that my uncle has received his miracle!
He was on the treatment and slowly getting better, but the treatment was affecting his liver and they had to
do something to stop any damage there. Then Thursday night into Friday he had fallen asleep and heard a
nurse come to his room and try to wake him to take his medicine. He did not want to get up. Told her over
and over that he had just fallen asleep and he did not want the medicine. He finally woke up and realized
that no one was there. Then he heard a voice say that he had the medicine now and that he was going to be
ok. 3 hours later he had turned the corner. He was getting better so quickly that even the doctors couldn’t
explain it. We have all been praying nonstop and we know that it was a true miracle. He is still in the hospi-
tal, but just yesterday he requested that my cousin send him food. He ordered from Kefi and my uncle finally
enjoyed a meal! We are so relieved and the doctors are saying that he as long as his breathing keeps getting
better he will likely be getting discharged in the next few days. It is not lost on me either that he had this sign
During the night going into Friday which was Ζωοδόχος Πηγή, I am taking that as a sign as well.
Thank you again for your continued prayers for My uncle and the next time I update you, hopefully he will
be cleared to go home! Thank you and stay safe Father T.

Lurie Lenten Project Update!
The Lurie Lenten Project is complete and was a huge
success due to all who supported and donated to this
worthy cause. With your generous donations, we
were able to make 786 bags that will be used in the
emergency room to help keep kids occupied while
waiting or being treated for their illness. During these uncertain times, the ER
room at Lurie’s is particularly busy, and they are beyond grateful for our contri-
butions.
While there was hope to have all the youth of St. Spyridon help assemble these
bags on the Saturday of Lazarus, since we were not able to do that this year due
to Covid-19, we pray that next year we can gather and assemble these bags to
help children at Lurie Children’s Hospital.

Χριστός Ανέστη! Hope you are well! Thank
you for everything you have done and you are
still doing for us! Here are some pictures of my

and healthy!

During the lockdown our family has been cook-
ing and baking at home a great deal more. Pano
and Isidora did Mrs. Sofea’s cupcake cones dur-
ing archangels one day. We did a new recipe for
Nutella cookies on another, mmmmm! And a
few days ago we made a yummy homemade pizza with cheese, zambon and
piperies. The same way you might find in Greece. If anyone wants the recipe we highly recommend. It’s a
team effort, we love it and it’s great to sit together and eat afterwards :)

Quarantine Stories
Paxinos Family Peter and I first of all wish our Church family the best and be safe. Whatever we can do please ask us. At the beg-ging of the Quarantine the first thing that I did was send a letter to each of our 5 grandchildren and told them to write things that they are experiencing now and keep the paper. I hope they will never have to experience it again but logging it, I thought was important. Our daughter see-ing the need for distraction sent us jigsaw puzzles that she had. We finished two in no time….then looked at the box that said ages 5-8…..perfect! The next one was hard-er…..ages 8 and above!!! We are proud to say that we now have finished 3 500 piece ones!!! No ages on box, Thank goodness!!!
Tsoukalas Family During this time period our family has been able to spend so much
more time together. Not every moment has been all smiles and
laughter, but it has shown all of us how much we not only need
each other but how important it is to be an active member of a fami-
ly. Everyone must do their part. From e-learning activities, to help-
ing your spouse get work done for their job, and of course take care
of the home you live in. One of the most special moments for me
was our family making our own epitafio! This was obviously a
much different lenten season and Pashca for all of us, but this project helped us realize how much we can
bring the church into our home. It was wonderful to have it with us as we watched the Holy Friday service.
We look forward to next year when we will be able to attend the Holy Week services in person.
Tzanetakos Family Χριστός Ανέστη! To say this unprecedented period has been a roller coaster of
emotions would be an understatement. Fear of the unknown, sadness for those
who are struggling, gratefulness for our health, gratitude for the time we have been
given to just be together. The world had to shut down
for this to be a possibility for many of us. As a family,
we have laughed, cried, stayed up late, had many silly
dance parties, had nearly every meal together, prayed
more, learned new games, had some tantrums, baked
and enjoyed one too many desserts, had fun and enjoyed video chatting, learned
how to navigate remote work/school responsibilities, but most of all, we did a
lot of hugging. Lent, Holy Week, Pascha was experienced in a whole new way.
Never the same as being in church but our focus and faith were highlighted.
Who would have thought that we would be donning our pajamas and watching
the Resurrection liturgy streamed online during an Easter slumber party? That’s
what our family did as our kids excitedly awaited to light their lambathes. That
moment and so much more that we will certainly never forget.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SPIRO! Πάσχα and Spirako's. 10th Birthday on April 19th. He was
surprised with a car parade of good wishes and a drive-by
from the Oak Lawn Fire Department!
GLIKIS FAMILY On The Saturday of Lazarus, while talking to my sister who
lives in Greece, I was telling her how my daughters and I
had participated in a live video baking session and made
Lazarakia with some church families from around the Chi-
cagoland area. She said something to the extent that things
are so different this year, and I told her that yes, things are
most certainly different, but these differences and these
"virtual experience" will help up make special memories
with our families. We also participated in making an epi-
taphio, inspired by Sotiria Stavropoulos who posted a vid-
eo of her making one. We used the epitaphio while we
"attended" the Holy Friday Evening service in our basement. Thank you to Fr.
Tilemaho, Angelo, and Alexia whose voices filled our homes almost every night dur-
ing the quarantine.
Also wanted to thank the parents of my Greek School Preschool class who have been
keeping up with lessons and having their child "zoom" with me every Friday. Seeing
the children this way has been such a joy. This past week, the children participated
with me learning a song for Mother's Day, and I presented a lesson on writing the
word, "Μαμά." On Mother's Day one of the moms texted me and showed me her gift
from her daughter who used our lesson as an inspiration for her gift. It is just amaz-
ing that even though we are apart, we are still connecting with each other and learning from one another.
ARGYROPOULOS FAMILY Joanna drew a picture to show what she misses about her typical everyday life. She decided to draw a picture of her at a
birthday party with lots of balloons and playing with friends. She said there is a girl dressed as an angel at the party as
well, but she thinks that its probably a real angel, “I love angels.”
Stella describes her drawing below as, “I miss praying in Church and going to school.
So I try my hardest doing it at home. When the shut downs of the church occurred
that is when we became worried. Worried about how can we still relay the im-
portance church to our kids when we aren't allowed to attend? We have been trying
hard to make the best of this unexpected situation. Apart from taking on the responsi-
bilities of teaching the kids their necessary school work, our biggest change has been
the effort in bringing services into our home whenever they are available and making it a point to
pray reciting the lords prayer at night as a family. I feel confident saying that our faith has grown
during this time. Focusing on Christ in our daily conversations and reading books about the
Saints of the church has been a huge ease and builder of strength and faith. Instead of worrying
about our current pause in history we are looking forward to the great changes to come for the
younger generations. A healthier planet, less reliable on technology like phones and iPads and I
hope a stronger foundation in faith because in these moments we are hopeful they are learning
the importance of the medicine the church has to offer. We look forward to coming out of this
stronger and joining everyone again in what will be our normal. We miss our family and friends
immensely and cannot wait to be able to sit closely to one another and just laugh. All our love,
Nick, Vicky, Stella, Joanna and Andoni Agyropoulos
