Health & Safety key to efficiency and profitability

Promoting industry best practice is a primary focus for UKWA and at this year’s Health & Safety event last month, CEO Peter Ward led an expert panel in a discussion about the importance of putting health & safety high on the agenda. “It’s not just about abiding by rules and regulations,” he said. “It’s about taking proactive steps to promote the welfare of employees, investing in training and understanding how best to protect your business when things go wrong.”

UKWA’s new insurance package for logistics businesses, underwritten by RSA and managed by Perry Appleton Group, has been welcomed by members, we look forward to the imminent introduction of a new Warehouse Auditor tool and will be rolling out our new Safety Passport scheme later in the year – the inaugural meeting of the Safety Passport working party will take place in May.

The CBI has issued its latest economic bulletin, summing up the outlook as ‘a bright light amid gathering darkness’. The expectation is for continued economic growth powered by sound

domestic demand, but with forecasts for 2016 and 2017 downgraded as economic clouds begin to gather and risks remain skewed to the downside with the EU referendum on the horizon.
