In 1974 winemaker Josh Jensen purchased a limestone rich parcel in

Hollister; alsochosen for its 2,200 elevation above sea level providing

coolertemperatures, and produced his first wines in 1975. Calera'smulti-level (7 tier), gravity-flow winerybuilt intothe side ofamountain allows

winestobe moved in the gentlest possible way, bythe natural force of

gravity. This, along with Calera'sother non-interventionisttechniques,

insuresthe bottled wines expressall ofthe natural greatnessoftheir
