Greenhouse Our Greenhouse volunteers help to make Greenhouse organic environment in which kids can grow, learn, and connect with God and others. Serving in Greenhouse can consist of anything from silly games and fun songs to interactive stories and fun-filled art projects. Team leader: Kayla George - [email protected] / 980.613.5739 Cafe Team The Cafe team is the key to creating the atmosphere at Center Stage for Transit. The team meets on Sunday mornings before Transit starts and helps set up the coffee, snacks and signage in the lobby. Volunteers serve roughly once a month. Team leader: Ashley Grammatico - [email protected] / 704.582.2355 Tech Team The Tech team is the group that is responsible for making Transit happen. From the audio production and video to the lighting and stage setup, this team provides the technical savvy that allows the creative elements to shine. Team leader: Ryan Grammatico - [email protected] / 803.524.1816 Setup Team The Setup team is a vital part of the Sunday morning experience. The team meets before Transit to set up the stage, cafe, and the signs outside Center Stage. Team members help to pack up after Transit and return the gear to the Greenhouse area. Team leader: Tracy Barlow - [email protected] / 704.604.2662 The Catapult Project :: investing in Byers Elementary The Catapult Project is our program that is investing in Byers Elementary school. Last year was an exciting time of getting to know the school and students, and figuring out how best to help out and support the parents, students, and teachers; this year we’ve been able to build on our success and help the school even more. There are still plenty of opportunities for you to jump in! Circle the icons on your connection card if you’d like to sign up, or contact Scott Miller to see if there are more ways that you can help. The Christmas Village Toy Store The Christmas Village Toy Store is a program that allows families with limited resources to purchase toys for their kids at a reduced cost, while funneling the proceeds back into the community. This year, we’ve set a goal of providing 200 toys that can be sold in the store - if you would like to help, bring a new, unwrapped toy (leave the price tags on) to Transit on December 12th or sign up to help by circling the icon on your Connection Card. If you bring your Christmas Village postcard (the one in your Weekly today) to Target and present it at checkout when buying gifts for the store, they’ll give you a 10% discount as well (but only at the uptown, Pineville, Blakeny, and Rock Hill Target stores)! Visit www.christmasvillagetoystore.com for more info. Water for Christmas Water for Christmas is a program that helps people to direct their holiday resources in a rewarding fashion. Rather than spending all of the gift budget on things that friends and family may not need (or even want), Water for Christmas allows people to direct those funds toward clean-water projects in other areas of the world. Look for more info in the coming days, or get a jump on things by visiting www.equitas.cc/christmas to sign your family up for the program and start contributing. What’s your passion...what invigorates you? What do you think you were cut out to do? If everyone’s a “10” at something, what’s your “something”, and what are you doing about it? Does your current routine bore & frustrate you? Recent polls reveal that less than two out of ten people say they spend the majority of their day “playing to their strengths”. Does the prospect of discovering your niche & unlocking your potential intrigue you? There’s more to life than being a number or just making ends meet. Make your unique mark; live distinctively. 11.21.10 The Catapult Project:: supporting a neighborhood school so that it can soar Current Serving Opportunities:: Current Justice Opportunities:: GreenHouse :: Giving :: Blocs:: (see back for meeting times/contact info) News:: Current Series:: Niche We believe that our children are our biggest investment, and our best hope for the future, and so we dedicate much of our time and energy to providing an environment where kids can grow, play, make new friends and develop a spritual foundation for their lives. Baptism isn’t about committing to live life perfectly, but rather about being so thankful for Jesus that you are willing to be known as someone committed to following him. Come join us December 12th to celebrate as members of our community take part in this ancient practice of affirming their new life with Christ. If you are interested in being baptized, contact us at [email protected]. cookie exchange for Byers staff Join the Prime Time and Her Blocs in baking cookies for the Byers staff! Bring homebaked cookies on Dec 11th and we’ll spend time wrapping them up for the teachers and administration. The cookies do not have to be “Christmas” cookies, but they do need to be homemade. If you can’t come but would still like to help, you can bake the cookies beforehand and get them to us that day - we’ll still be glad to wrap them up. Help us show the staff at Byers that they are appreciated (and possibly get a few cookies for yourself too!) It’s easy to get caught up in the part of the holidays that appeals to our desire to have the latest gadgets and fashions, but what if we reinvented our holiday traditions and adopted a new element of giving that helped to radically transform communities in need? Look for more details in the coming days on how your family can help give the gift of clean water where it’s needed the most. upcoming series :: Present Tense We’re a community who believes that the best way to celebrate the birth of a King who embodied love and kindness is to allow that same beautiful justice and mercy to be born in us in the present. At the very core of all the celebration, shopping, decorating, and traditions of Christmas is an ancient echo beckoning each of us to embrace humility and bring joy. The shopping malls are swallowing our souls; take some time out this December to reignite your heart with a meaningful and soul-deepening celebration of the core of Christmas. weekly need: $7,899 last week: $7,109 Lunch Buddy The Lunch Buddy program provides an easy but powerful way to have a lasting impact on a kid’s life through a mentoring friendship. Our com- munity is made up of smaller groups (called “Blocs”) that meet at various times/locations during the week. Our Blocs are listed on the back of the Weekly - if you see a one that sparks your interest, contact one of the Bloc Leaders (see back for contact info), or circle the icon on your connection card and one of the leaders will contact you to fill you in on the details. PrimeTime Prime Time is the bloc for those who may be young at heart, but consider themselves more mature in age and stature. While the majority of “Prime Timers” range between 50 and 70+ years of age, younger attenders would never be turned away. (As long as they think they can keep up!) Our next meeting will be on Saturday, December 11th at 4:00pm at Pam and Gene’s home. Contact us if you’d like to get more information, or to join us for our next meeting - we’d love to have you! (see back for contact info) Watershed Cafe Feel free to grab some Panera goodies and some coffee from the Watershed Cafe before you head into Transit! The coffee we brew on Sundays comes from Land of a Thousand Hills, a group that is working to help rebuild Rwanda through microfinance loans and local partnerships.
