DEAR—Drop Everything and Read by Mr Hanford

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

Tolkien wrote this book back in 1937, as a children’s fantasy novel which remains highly acclaimed

and is recognised as a classic in children’s literature.

"In a hole in the ground, there lived a Hobbit." Bilbo Baggins, the protagonist of our story, is a

Hobbit who likes to live in the comfort of his hole. He hates the idea of going on adventures and

prefer the peaceful environment of his home.

Until one day Gandalf, the wizard ends up on his door making him join Thorin Oakenshield (the

dwarf) and his companions, on an expedition to take the treasures that a dragon called Smaug was

guarding.

Hobbit rejected the idea at first but, ends up going on this unlikely journey, which changes his life forever. He gets to find a new

side of him yet, stays true to his morals.

The book unfolds the journey of Hobbit with Thorin and company, where they get to meet human, elves, goblins and other inter-

esting creatures. Tolkien has beautifully penned down the journey which can transport the reader in a world of fiction and fantasy.

The book also contains beautiful illustrations and the road map to the lonely mountain which also helps as a guide while reading.
