Why I began a Genius Hour?5. I read “Teach Like a Pirate” by Dave Burgess and participated in Twitter PLN #tlap4. I wanted a classroom where students would buy tickets to experience and eagerly participate in the learning in my classroom.3. Genius Hour community on Twitter welcomed me, committed or not.2. It passed the “kid test” at my own home.1. It allowed me to meet all Students where they were… passion isn’t selective.
Engineering the Launch for Genius Hour"Sometimes you have to go outside your industry to find ways to come back and affect it." -George Whitfield, dubbed the "Quarterback Whisperer" by ESPN Sports.
Launching Genius Hour is a delicate dance that’s success lies in the planning by the “Instructional Engineer” (teacher).
Getting students to understand how limitless Genius Hour is… is the first step.

Students struggle to find their passion:
Obvious to you. Amazing to others. by Derek Sivers
Important from the beginning:Important concepts for students to understand at the Launch:
1.There are no limits (within the parameters of safety and legality).2.The topics you brainstorm to pursue and create cannot be google-able.3.The teacher is here to guide, coach and facilitate so that you can discover… they are not responsible for finding your resources or provide a defined result.4.The process does not have a true final product, but rather a place where you are able to share with others and enhance the world around you. Your passion continues to grow and thrive.5.You may discover other passions in the process.6.Think outside the box. Connect with the world to deeply understand your passion/genius.
