The William T. and Jane C. McConnell Residence Hall - OPENING AUGUST 2017

To maximize the potential of the Ohio State Newark Campus and to alleviate the ongoing demand for

additional campus housing, The Ohio State University at Newark has committed to adding 120 residential

beds for our students in 2017 with construction of The William T. and Jane C. McConnell Residence Hall.

Adding additional student housing will greatly enhance the experience for students attending Ohio State

Newark and represents a major investment in our future.

The William T. and Jane C. McConnell Residence Hall will include modern living, educational and

collaborative spaces, an outdoor recreational patio, as well as event space for all 300 on-campus residents.

The building is designed to promote student success, a shared student experience, and engagement in

student-centered activities.

To further enhance the student residential experience, upgrade materials, create more student-centered

programming and plan for future expansion of the residential opportunities at Ohio State Newark, we have

designed a select number of naming opportunities to promote community philanthropic investment in this

critically important capital project. We ask for your consideration and investment as we begin this new era

at The Ohio State University at Newark.

EVENT AND MEETING SPACE

The largest space in the new residence hall is the 2800 square foot

Event Center located on the main floor of the building. This space will

be a key component for all Ohio State Newark residential students and

seats 300. The space will be used for educational programming,

student meetings, lectures, and Student Life events. It will serve as the

premier meeting space in the building and be the activity hub for all

Newark Campus residents.

NAMING OPPORTUNITY (1 Available): $250,000

OUTDOOR MEETING SPACE/PATIO

Adjacent to the main entryway of the building, the 1840 square

foot Outdoor Patio and Plaza area will serve as a welcoming

outdoor space for student collaboration, informal meetings and

relaxation. It features decorative pavers and seating to create a

unique gathering and creative space for students.

STUDENT LOUNGES AND STUDY SPACES

First Floor Grand Lounge

With any residence hall, students need an accessible gathering place for

study groups, and meeting space to meet with peers. The largest

student lounge space in the new residence hall is the 940 square foot

First Floor Grand Lounge. The large lounge includes clusters of chairs for

student-to-student interaction and includes a gas fireplace as the focal

point of this sure to be busy space.

NAMING OPPORTUNITY (1 Available): $75,000

Resident Floor Large Study Lounges

Each residential floor will feature a large study lounge at the north end of

the building where students can gather in small groups for study sessions

and quiet reading. These lounges will give students the opportunity to relax

outside of their private rooms without venturing downstairs to the more

active main floor.

NAMING OPPORTUNITY (3 Available): $50,000

Resident Floor Smaller Study Lounges

In addition to the larger study lounge located on each floor, residents will

also have access to two smaller study lounge spaces for a more personal

reading and gathering setting. These smaller lounges, one a 340 square feet

and the other at 240 square feet, provide a cozy space for small group

projects or tutoring. The larger of the two will have room for 6-8 students

whereas the smaller lounge is specifically designed for two people to study

or converse.

NAMING OPPORTUNITY (6 Available): $20,000/$25,000

Pledges and payments can be made in one lump sum or spread out over a three year period.

Each named space will have a plaque or sign recognizing the donor’s contribution. All named spaces

will be reviewed by The Ohio State University and the donor before final approval. Named spaces are

in perpetuity.

Financial support collected as part of the naming opportunity will be used to make key investments

and upgrades to equipment and fixtures within the new residence hall, support student-centered

programming at the residence hall, and a portion will be endowed for future upgrades to the building

as well as replacement of furniture and other building amenities.

IMMEDIATE NEEDS AND UPGRADES

Upgrading and adding flat screen televisions and display monitors for

student viewing and messaging in lobby area and event center.

Adding a “Block O” gas fire pit to the outdoor patio.

Upgrading furniture material and fixtures in all student lounges.

Upgrading appliances in the first floor residence kitchen area.

Adding and enhancing outdoor recreational options.
