The Wishing Whirl

• The interactive sculpture stands as an international icon of PROGRESS, DIVERSITY and INFINITE POTENTIAL.

• It is also an ode to the original San Jose light tower (seen inverted here).

• This monumental sculpture is a modern day wishing well, which turns the original San Jose light house ‘on its head’. The interactive sculpture comes to life when individuals make wishes; it activates a mesmerizing display of water and light (safe electrical sparks) that spirals upwards into the sky.

• Wishes can be made by standing on the various sensor points dotted around the basin for 30sec min or via an app with an interactive palette. At the top the star bursts out as an explosion of water that is flash lit all the way down.

• The shape of the sculpture is an inverted vortex originating from the centre of the park. It represents an unyielding force emanating from the technological center of the world.

• Known as the ‘Golden Spiral’ in geometry, the Fibonacci Curve is where mathematics meets nature to describe the shape of infinity.

• The basin will be an inverted cone to hold the weight of the structure and echo the spiral above.

• The intention is to build solely with recycled materials, while power for the lighting and water pump is provided by solar panels.
