The Marriage of Opposites - Adult Fiction By Alice Hoffman

This is a forbidden love story set on the tropical island of St. Thomas about the ex-traordinary woman who gave birth to painter Camille Pissarro; the Father of Im-pressionism. Growing up on idyllic St. Thomas in the early 1800s, Rachel dreams of life in fara-way Paris. Rachel's mother, a pillar of their small refugee community of Jews who escaped the Inquisition, has never forgiven her daughter for being a difficult girl

who refuses to live by the rules. Growing up, Rachel's salvation is their maid Adelle's belief in her strengths, and her deep, life-long friendship with Jestine, Adelle's daughter. But Rachel's life is not her own. She is married off to a widower with three children to save her father's business. When her husband dies suddenly and his handsome, much younger nephew, Fréderick, arrives from France to settle the estate, Rachel seizes her own life story, beginning a defiant, passionate love affair that sparks a scandal that affects all of her family, including her favorite son, who will become one of the greatest artists of France. ~ Provided by publisher

Trap - Adult Fiction By Robert Tanenbaum

In the next courtroom drama in the New York Times bestselling Karp-Ciampi series, Butch Karp and Marlene Ciampi get tangled up in a web of misdirection and must unravel it in time to solve a mass murder. When a tremendous blast rocks an old school building in East Harlem during a meeting of the New York Charter Schools, killing six and wounding a dozen others, it’s initially blamed on a natural gas explosion. However, as Butch Karp digs a little

deeper, he discovers the explosion was the work of a mysterious serial arsonist in the employ of the teacher’s union president, who is angry at the unqualified successes of the charter school movement in New York City and worried for the corrupt public school system. Also involved in the planning and cover-up is a major law enforcement player and a political hack who panders to the union for financial support and gets caught up in the homicidal scheme. ~ Provided by pub-lisher

Summer Secrets - Adult Large Print Fiction By Jane Green

When a shocking family secret is revealed, twenty-something journalist Cat Coombs finds herself falling into a dark spiral. Wild, glamorous nights out in London and rag-ing hangovers the next day become her norm, leading to a terrible mistake one night while visiting family in America, on the island of Nantucket. It's a mistake for which she can't forgive herself. When she returns home, she confronts the unavoidable re-ality of her life and knows it's time to grow up. But she doesn't know if she'll ever be able to earn the forgiveness of the people she hurt. ~ Provided by publisher

Modern Romance - Adult Non Fiction By Aziz Ansari

At some point, every one of us embarks on a journey to find love. We meet people, date, get into and out of relationships, all with the hope of finding someone with whom we share a deep connection. This seems standard now, but it’s wildly differ-ent from what people did even just decades ago. Single people today have more romantic options than at any point in human history. With technology, our abilities to connect with and sort through these options are staggering. So why are so many people frustrated?

This is a hilarious, thoughtful, and in-depth exploration of the pleasures and perils of modern ro-mance from one of this generation’s sharpest comedic voices. ~ Provided by publisher Pirate Hunters: Treasure, Obsession, and the Search for a Legendary Pirate Ship - Adult Non Fiction By Robert Kurson

Finding and identifying a pirate ship is the hardest thing to do under the sea. But two men—John Chatterton and John Mattera—are willing to risk everything to find the Golden Fleece, the ship of the infamous pirate Joseph Bannister. At large during the Golden Age of Piracy in the seventeenth century, Bannister should have been immortalized in the lore of the sea—his exploits more notorious than Blackbeard’s, more daring than Kidd’s. But his story, and his ship, have been lost to time. If Chat-terton and Mattera succeed, they will make history—it will be just the second time ever that a pirate ship has been discovered and positively identified. Soon, however,

they realize that cutting-edge technology and a willingness to lose everything aren’t enough to track down Bannister’s ship. They must travel the globe in search of historic documents and ac-counts of the great pirate’s exploits, face down dangerous rivals, battle the tides of nations and governments and experts. It’s only when they learn to think and act like pirates—like Bannister—that they become able to go where no pirate hunters have gone before. ~ Provided by publisher

Ringo: With a Little Help - Adult Non Fiction (Memoir) By Michael Seth Starr

Born in 1940 as Richard Starkey in the Dingle, one of Liverpool's most gritty, rough-and-tumble neighborhoods, he rose from a hardscrabble childhood marked by seri-ous illnesses, long hospital stays, and little schooling to emerge, against all odds, as a locally renowned drummer. Taking the stage name Ringo Starr, his big break with the Beatles rocketed him to the pinnacle of worldwide acclaim in a remarkably short time. He was the last member of the Beatles to join the group but also the most vulnerable, and his post-Beatles career was marked by chart-topping suc-cesses, a jet-setting life of excess and alcohol abuse, and, ultimately, his rebirth as

one of rock's revered elder statesman. ~ Provided by publisher

The Little Paris Bookshop: A Novel - Adult Fiction Audio By Nina George

Monsieur Perdu calls himself a literary apothecary. From his floating bookstore in a barge on the Seine, he prescribes novels for the hardships of life. Using his intuitive feel for the exact book a reader needs, Perdu mends broken hearts and souls. The only person he can't seem to heal through literature is himself; he's still haunted by heartbreak after his great love disappeared. She left him with only a letter, which he has never opened.

After Perdu is finally tempted to read the letter, he hauls anchor and departs on a mission to the south of France, hoping to make peace with his loss and discover the end of the story. Joined by a bestselling but blocked author and a lovelorn Italian chef, Perdu travels along the country’s riv-ers, dispensing his wisdom and his books, showing that the literary world can take the human soul on a journey to heal itself. ~ Provided by publisher Reagan: The Life - Adult Non Fiction Audio By H.W. Brands

In his magisterial new biography, H. W. Brands brilliantly establishes Ronald Reagan as one of the two great presidents of the twentieth century, a true peer to Franklin Roosevelt. Reagan conveys with sweep and vigor how the confident force of Reagan’s personality and the unwavering nature of his beliefs enabled him to engi-neer a conservative revolution in American politics and play a crucial role in ending

communism in the Soviet Union. Reagan shut down the age of liberalism, Brands shows, and ush-ered in the age of Reagan, whose defining principles are still powerfully felt today. ~ Provided by publisher

“There are worse crimes than burning books. One of them is not reading them.” ~ Ray Bradbury

Throughout history, books have not only been removed from libraries and schools, but banned and even destroyed for content seen as unpopular or unorthodox. Banned Books Week is one

week in particular where librarians, booksellers, and others in the book community stand against censorship and in support of free speech and the right to express ideas.
