Meet Your New Fire Chief @ Be Fire Smart for Families

Did you know that the holi-day season is the time of

year when homes are the most prone to fires?

With the extra cooking and electric decorations, this program will be a great way

to help bring awareness to fire prevention around the holidays and throughout the en-tire year. You will also learn about proper use and maintenance of smoke detectors to

prevent a disaster from happening to you and your family.

Fire Chief, Rob Jarvis and others from the Coolidge Fire Department will be at the li-brary on Thursday, November 20th at 5:00 p.m. to discuss these important topics with the community.

Registration is encouraged for this event. Refreshments will be provided. To sign up, please call (520) 723-6030 or email [email protected].

Our Annual Friends of the Li-brary Book Sale is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, No-vember 21-22. The sale will run from 8-5 p.m. on Friday

and then from 8-12 p.m. on Saturday at the Women’s Club, located on 240 W. Pinkley Ave. (the street behind the library).

There will be a variety of items available at low, bargain prices, from adult and children’s books to DVD’s.

November is Food for Fines Forgiveness Month!

It’s the best time to reduce the fines on your library account! By doing so, you can help out an individual or a family in need.

Between November 1-30, every non-perishable food item donated will equal $1 removed from your library fine. Items must be undamaged and unexpired. Everything

that is donated will be given to the House of Hope, which assists those in the community.

If you don’t have a fine but would still like to donate, your contribution will be very much appreciated!

If you have questions, please call (520) 723-6030 or email [email protected]

Gray Mountain — Adult Large Print (also available in audio and regular print) By John Grisham

The Great Recession of 2008 left many young professionals out of work. Promising ca-reers were suddenly ended as banks, hedge funds, and law firms engaged in mass lay-offs and brutal belt tightening. Samantha Kofer was a third year associate at Scully & Pershing, New York City's largest law firm. Two weeks after Lehman Brothers collapsed, she lost her job, her security, and her future. A week later she was working as an unpaid

intern in a legal aid clinic deep in small town Appalachia. There, for the first time in her career, she was confronted with real clients with real problems. She also stumbled across secrets that should have remained buried deep in the mountains forever ~ Provided by publisher Enough: Our Fight to Keep America Safe From Gun Violence — Adult Non Fiction By Gabrielle D. Giffords & Mark Kelly

Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords--disabled from an assassination attempt in Tucson, Arizona--and her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, share their impassioned argu-ment for responsible gun ownership and more responsible gun control laws, despite being gun owners and staunch supporters of the Second Amendment themselves. ~ Pro-vided by publisher

War dogs : tales of canine heroism, history, and love — Adult Non Fiction By Rebecca Frankel

The history of dogs in the US military is long and rich, from the spirit-lifting mascots of the Civil War to the dogs still leading patrols hunting for IEDs today. Frankel not only interviewed handlers who deployed with dogs in wars from Vietnam to Iraq, but top military commanders, K-9 program managers, combat-trained therapists who brought dogs into war zones as part of a preemptive measure to stave off PTSD, and veterinary technicians stationed in Bagram. She makes a passionate case for maintaining a robust

war-dog force. In a post-9/11 world rife with terrorist threats, nothing is more effective than a bomb-sniffing dog and his handler. With a compelling cast of humans and animals, this moving book is a must read for all dog lovers--military and otherwise. ~ Provided by publisher

The Book With No Pictures—Children’s Fiction By B.J. Novak

You might think a book with no pictures seems boring and serious. Except, here’s how

books work. Everything written on the page has to be said by the person reading it

aloud. Even if the words are a preposterous song about eating ants for breakfast, or just

a list of astonishingly goofy sounds. Cleverly irreverent and irresistibly silly. ~ Provided

Teen Read Week Winner 2014—Congrats Margret!

Congratulants to Margret H. for winning with her entry in the Teen Read Week prize raffle!

The theme for this year was “Turn Your Dreams into a Real-ity.” We asked teens to submit either a piece of art work, a poem, or a short essay conveying the following: a dream or an aspiration for their life, for Coolidge, or for the world.

When you first glance at Margret’s picture, you might just see an elephant, but she explained what this elephant sym-bolizes:

“My drawing of this elephant represents my dream to go to Thailand & work alongside a veterinar-ian to help cure elephants of their ailments.“

Margret won items that will help inspire her further in achieving those dreams. We wish you all the best, Margret!
