Jim Cropper and Dan EnglandFor over forty-five years, Jim Cropper from Lancashire, England, hasbeen demonstrating his mastery of sheepdog handling. With his unparal-leled accomplishments, he is undoubtedly one of the most talented han-dlers of all time.

Jim got Lassie, his first border collie when he was fourteen years old. In1964 he ran in his first trial with a dog named Rex and placed second. On their next outing, they won and Jim has been winning ever since.Since first competing at the International in 1968, he has gone on torepresent England over thirty times in that grand event.

While Supreme and World Championships still elude him, Jim has beenwithin a whisker of both. In 1973 Jim finished Reserve Supreme Cham-pion with Clyde, but went on that year to win the first of three Interna-tional Brace Championships (1973 Clyde and Fleet; 2005 Alf and Dan;2008 Dan and Fleet). He won the English National in 1986 with Cap. InWorld Trial competition, Jim and Sid finished as Reserve World Champi-ons in 2002, one point behind Aled Owen and Ben. Jim was also tenththat year with Mac. He was fifth with Sid in the 2005 World Trial Final.

Dan is one of Jim’s most accomplished dogs. He has won two Interna-tional Brace Championships, one English Brace Championship, been Re-serve English National Champion (2008), was third in the 2007 EnglishNational, and, in a career that is far from over, he already has a long listof Open wins to his credit.

About the AuthorAngie Driscoll was born in England and raised in New Zealandwhere, as a child, she was fascinated by the goings on at hergrandparents’ farms, especially the interactions among people, working dogs and sheep. She left New Zealand to pursue adoctorate in International Marketing in Canada and was well onher way in a successful “big city” career as a marketing andcommunications specialist in Canada when her past caught upwith her: As a hobby and distraction from her corporate work, she purchased a sheep farm in Alberta and began raising pure-bred Dorset, Suffolk, Katahadin and South African Dorpersheep. The herd kept growing and soon, like any good sheepfarmer, she needed dogs to help manage the flock.

It wasn't long before the sheepdogs with their discipline, intel-ligence and loyalty became Angie’s prime focus. In 2006, sheand her husband, Kelvin Broad, sold the livestock, farm and alltheir possessions, left the corporate world behind, and headedto the UK with the hope of one day competing with her dogs. She wanted to watch and learn from some of the best handlersin the World, and more importantly, improve her shepherdingskills. After spending some time shepherding on a large hillfarm in Scotland, Angie ventured onto the trial fields at theend of 2007 for her first full season of trialling.

Never too far away from her crook, whistle and dogs is hercamera. Captivated by the athleticism, unbridled enthusiasm, and sheer beauty of sheepdogs, Angie strives to capture thesequalities on 'film'. Whether in small, local trials or in World Tri-als, Angie can be seen camera in hand looking for that specialimage to share.

As webmeistress for the 2008 World Sheep Dog Trial in Llan-deilo, Wales, Angie had an ideal opportunity to communicateher passion for sheepdogs, and her admiration for top handlersthe world over, through the internet. She now shares this ad-miration through The World of Sheepdogs.

The World of Sheepdogs is her first book.
