In the present world, you will hardly find a man, who isfully content. There may be many causes ofdissatisfaction. One of the major causes of man’s

dissatisfaction is his monetary difficulties. Besides financialissues, the problems may relate to personal, social,economic, political, moral issues, etc. Man’s wishes, desires,wants and demands go on increasing, taking various formsas days pass by.

Discontentment Disturbs the Balance of MindDiscontentment brings mental agitation and disturbs

intellectual equipoise. As a result of this, man is weigheddown with despair, indifference, tension, animosity, evenfury and mental agony and cannot exercise his discriminationin order to find means of improving the conditions and losesthe ability to act. Thus, his plans and acts go wrong andgive rise to quarrels. Only by dint of hard work can manmake both ends meet, and only the man of rightunderstanding can work on the right lines. Otherwise, it is ablunder to let your reason be clouded by desires and, thus,lose your own happiness.

Contentment is WealthContentment is as good a means of happiness as wealth

is considered to be. Is it proper, therefore, to lose the wealthof contentment in order to secure another kind of wealth?The right course of conduct is that man should be calm inthe situation of crisis and, at the same time, should find asystematic method of mending or ending it. Considering thepresent to be the consequence of our own actions, we shouldbe careful about the future. Just as food sustains the body,so does the mind find sustenance in happiness. So, the sayinggoes: “There is no food as good as happiness.” And, to behappy, you have to be contented. Just as, for bodilywellbeing, man seeks food; similarly, to maintain the stateof happiness, one has to ensure stability of one’s mind andcontentment.

During my recent visit toTrauma Centre ofGlobal Hospital

Research Centre (GHRC) towish a few patients speedyrecovery, I met the hospitaldoctors, who were busy ontheir rounds caring for thepatients. I also met a few youngpatients with complaints of highlevels of blood pressure, sugarand cardiac problems. A goodnumber of elderly men andwomen were also waiting fortheir turn. Though many of themhave been practising appliedspirituality and Rajayogameditation in their lives, they stillsuffer from ill health from timeto time. Possibly, the mainreason of this is the externalpressure caused due to theirsocial responsibilities, and,perhaps, is due to their lessattention on caring for the selfwhile caring for others.

In general, the health ofindividuals in every field seemsto be under stress and strain.The fast evolving IT gadgets andexpanding social media have

contributed largely to the havocplaying on the nerves of amajority of users as well as totheir deteriorating relationshipsand lack of ability to facesituations of life. Thecommunication explosion hasbecome one of the main causesbehind their weak family valuesand non-existent caring attitudesthat were prevalent in the past.The main focus of a goodpercentage of the educatedclass, whether they are IT orbusiness professionals orindustrialists, medicalprofessionals or a section of thepharmaceutical industry, is tocapitalise on the economy. But,the results are quite dismal: highlevels of competitivenessamongst the high-achievers incut-throat industries are leadingto emotional disorders, lack ofany relaxation or sleep within 24hours, and unhealthyattachment to materialism.

As the prices of requireditems or commodities of dailyuse keep spiralling, the middleclass and ordinary sections of

society face more and morechallenges as they bear thepressure of caring for theirelders and children. On abroader scale, the risingtensions between big nations aresounding the warning bugle andalerting us towardscommencement of the imminentThird World War. Climatechange all over the world isplaying a big role in creatingpsychological upheavals insociety and daily life. Is itpossible to find respite in themidst of these challenges?

The followers ofeach religion go through the fourstages of the golden, silver,copper and iron states of being,in terms of spiritual power,purity and commitment to theirbelief systems. The philosophyimparted by those trulyenlightened souls wasinstrumental in giving a verygood start, but now the prayersand forms of devotion havebecome mostly mechanical androutinely affairs, or areinstigated by God fear-ness orfear for the Supreme. In a way,this may be known as the DarkAge or Iron Age of theexistence of the human race.There needs to be theemergence of powerfulthoughts of conviction andexpression of divine actions toreap the fruits of goodness,greatness and godliness.

In terms of relationships, ifeven one relationship is missing,there are then waves of sorrow.In the Brahmin world, allrelationships with God, theSupreme Father, are eternal. Allrelationships are imperishable;and, so, how could there be anywaves of sorrow?

“In terms of wealth, the setof all treasures, or theelevated treasure of all wealth,is the wealth of knowledgethrough which you canautomatically attain all types ofwealth. Since you haveattained wealth andrelationships, you are in acarefree world. You are thechildren and the masters ofthe world of constanthappiness, that is, you are theemperors. Have you becomeemperors or are youbecoming that?

“If there is any kind ofsorrow, you must definitelyhave gone outside theboundary of the world ofhappiness. You got attracted toone artificial attraction or

The World Renewal 7April, 2018another or some artificial form,just as it is shown in thememorial of the previous cyclethat Sita was attracted andcrossed the line of the code ofconduct, that is, she crossedthe boundary of the world ofhappiness, and where did sheend up as a result of that? Inthe cottage of sorrow! Whenyou are within the boundary,you experience happinesseven in a jungle, and becomefortunate even in renunciation.

“Wherever you Brahminsouls may be, even amidst anatmosphere of sorrow, youare like a lotus. You aredetached from sorrow; and,so, are the carefree emperors.No waves of the sorrow ofsome physical illness, nowaves of the sorrow of awasteful upheaval in yourmind, no waves of the sorrowof a lack of attainment ofperishable wealth, no wavesof the sorrow of your weaksanskars and nature or thoseof others, no waves of thesorrow of the atmosphereor vibrations, or waves ofsorrow based on relationshipsand contacts pull you tothemselves, do they? You aredetached from them, aren’tyou? When your worldchanged, your sanskars

changed. Your nature alsochanged and you, therefore,became a part of the world ofhappiness.

“In fact, you becamebeggars, that is, not even yourbody - the home - belongs toyou. You have becomebeggars, haven’t you?However, you also became themasters of all treasures of God,the Father. You became self-sovereigns. Do you have suchintoxication and happiness?This is known as being acarefree emperor.

“You have become BrahmaKumars and Kumaris, you havebecome yogis. To beexperienced means to haveauthority. Which authority?The authority of self-sovereignty.”

With this spirituallyawakened consciousness, weunderstand and realise thebeauty of God’s plan for globaltransformation from the IronAge to the Golden Age ofpeace, purity, and happiness.The concept of such a worldof Paradise needs to be veryclear: it will be an era whereevery human being lives a lifeof natural and constanttruthfulness, divinity and lovingrelationships with all creatures,free from ignorance,

negativities, vices and sufferings.Let us all invest our time and

energy for effecting globalenlightenment for re-usheringin the Golden Age on earth.Only then will the words of theSupreme Being and theReligious Founding Fathersprove to be true: “May therebe peace on earth andgoodwill amongst humanbeings...” May you become agreat example of self-transformation for worldtransformation!

When we say ‘OmShanti’ three times,both night and day

become good. We sleep wellwith good dreams. Baba says,“Connect your mind with Me.” When we do this, Bababecomes happy and we becomefortunate. On the one side, Heis the One, the Supreme Soul,the ‘Doer’ and, on the other side,are the ones, the souls, that do.He is the Detached Observer.He becomes our Companionand our body and mind areentuned with Him. We are notthinking about money. Whatwould we do with money? Babaprovides food and water and asis the food so is the mind.

As one sits for eveningmeditation, one should look atthe self/soul and see where it isseated. Is it seated in meditationwith Baba? When the souls arein meditation, Baba satisfieseach soul with His powerfuldrishti. Shiv Baba is theInnocent Lord, He doesn’t evenhave His own body. He entersin the body of Brahma and sitsin such a way that we too wishto sit between the two and

become happy. We get thisfeeling when they are bothtogether. There is praise of thisConfluence Age. This is the timeof establishment of true religionand destruction ofunrighteousness. The good newsis that we have to follow theSupreme Father. With everystep, there is multi-million-foldincome. There is nothing lackingat all.

Baba teaches us so well. Heasks, ‘Are you satisfied with mydrishti’? We are Baba’s righthands and there is such a greatfeeling that our final journey anddestination are going to be verygood. The final moments willcome. Baba says, “I am theCreator. You are My creations”.We hold this attention that wewill first go to Paramdham, theSupreme Abode, ourmetaphysical sweet Home, andthen will come down again.Baba will not go alone, He willtake all souls back with Him.

Let us become the beads of108; then, we will become thegarland around Baba’s neck. Inthe establishment of the truereligion, we have to go into the

depths of truth. Therefore, wehave to become very firm. Weare, now, in the Brahminreligion. We have to be detachedobservers and experience howBaba is our Companion.

I stayed in Baba’s home inKolkata. Both my father andBrahma Baba were jewellers.My father, sister and I visitedBaba’s shop once. Baba askedmy father, ‘‘Where are yourchildren staying?’’ Baba thensaid, ‘‘This child will stay inBaba’s home.’’ That scene wasvery wonderful and whenever Igo to Kolkata, I stay in thatapartment.

Once, I had the thought tooffer bhog to Baba and he thensaid, “When you sit inremembrance, you will go toBaba.” He sees how the foodaffects the mind. He hascreated the sacrificial fire. Hewould keep me in the kitchen.Previously, I had never donecooking as we had maids athome.

Be lured to God only, as everyone and everything else will lure you from Him.

Now, we have to be Baba’sobedient and sincere children. Askyourself if you are obeying whateverBaba’s orders are. We become faithfulin relationships and sincere whilstdoing service. When you get Baba’sorders, say: ‘Yes, Baba.’ Let there notbe an expression of thinking too much.I don’t think too much now. I alwayslook at what thoughts I am having. We need pure thoughts in our mind andcreate positive thoughts for every othersoul, for one’s own self and the wholefamily.

In the beginning, middle and end,whoever maintaining the kitchen isvery fortunate. Baba used to comeand see how I was cooking. Even ifbefore dying, someone eats Baba’sfood, that soul will become fortunate.We are all multi-million times fortunateones.

We have to become completelyviceless and full of all virtues. In theearly days, rupees were in ‘annas’ andone rupee was worth 16 annas. Wehave to become 16 celestial degreesfull and to do this, we have to followwhatever Baba says. Here, inMadhuban, we can see very goodcleanliness. Last night after the class,I visited the kitchen and it wascompletely clean. I became so happyon seeing this. I am also very happywhen I go to meet Dadi Gulzar eachevening after the class.

We take our meals with our faceshining in Baba’s remembrance and,then, we get the thought to do someservice. On the one side, Baba is myCompanion and, on the other side, ismy fortune. I become very happylooking at all of you.

The power of Rajayoga meditation provides the proof of God’s existence.

YOUR REAL WEALTH Understand that your real wealth cannot be taken

from you or destroyed. The world has become veryluxurious and showy but that wealth is destroyedquickly. The flame of our minds, our inner light, hasbeen lit, and this is our real wealth. Our light canignite the light of others. So, give your companyand co-operation to others. If someone is feelinglonely or empty, they may be looking for somesupport. They may feel that they don’t have anything.Offer spiritual friendship to those, who are feelingalone and keep a loving relationship with everyone.NOURISHMENT OF HAPPINESS

If you really want to know how to live a good life,Dadi can share that secret with you. It is not a matterof wearing a good suit or dress, of having a good caror other material possessions. It is a matter oflearning how to remain happy. There is nonourishment like happiness, and there is nothingas debilitating as worry. In fact, if you want to knowabout giving happiness, then reflect on this in yourmind: “What does it mean to be a donor and abestower of blessings?” Have you become such aperson yet?

The secret is to be free from ego and attachment.You will then really feel that everything is good andthat there is no need to be concerned about anything.You will really feel that you are a child of God. Egoand attachment destroy one’s life. It doesn’t matterhow big a business you may have, or how wealthyyou are, ego will destroy you. So, remain free fromego and attachment and fill yourself with thenourishment of happiness.

It was Saturday, 8th April,2006 when I was returninghome from office. I had just

finished talking to Jyoti, my wife,when, all of a sudden, in thefraction of a second, a bullet hitme. I don’t know where it camefrom but it hit me in my spineand it was instant paralysis,though no one knew about it. Iwas very near to my home andmy colleague, who saw theincident, ran to inform others.My wife came out running andshe realised it was me who hadbeen shot. I was unconsciousand could see a white lightbefore me. But as soon as sheput her hand on the forehead andcalled out, I came back toconsciousness and startedsaying, “Baba, I need to bestrong and positive.”

I was rushed to a hospital.My pulse was very weak and Iwas bleeding profusely. Thebullet had created thirteenperforations in the intestine andthe doctors had to cut eighteencentimetres of intestine. Theysomehow saved my life but Iwas paralysed from deep down

the waist, complete paraplegic,which meant that I would neverwalk again.

This incident changedeverything for me and myfamily. The doctors and myfamily had the thought of pullingthe plug, but Baba wanted meto live and be an example. Itwas a big personal tragedy, butbeing in Baba’s knowledge gaveme the strength and the courageto face it with a positive outlookand also, the strong support thatI received from my familyhelped me recover from theshock.

I used to run my own businessbut after this incident, thebusiness suffered a lot. I was inhospital for 64 days, came homeand then headed to South Africafor rehabilitation and to get backto some normality. I was therefor seven weeks, joined by mywife and daughter. My daughterthought of letting go of the ideaof doing further studies, butBaba gave me the strength to,in fact, be her support andencourage her towards higherstudies. In those trying times, I

always felt that Baba washolding me and guiding me tomake the right decisions and tohave the right attitude at themuch-needed time.

Today, though I am inwheelchair, yet I am running abusiness full time. I amdisciplined in work and peoplewonder: How, in spite of beinglike this, I am able to work somuch! But, I tell them that it isShiva Baba and not me. He isthe Saviour and Light of my life.Having Him by your side,everything flows. I know I amdisabled but having Baba withme means I have everything. Iaccept that things have changed,like travelling, etc., but still it isfine. I am content with the life Ihave and I thank Baba for that.I know that what is important inlife is respect for the family andBaba.

I love working. At times, myfamily tells me to go slow but Ilove working and interactingwith people. I feel this incidentwas a wake-up call as beforethis incident, I was rushing andrushing in the worldly pursuits

A Miraculous Survival Experience

aimlessly; this incident gaveme a new perspective. Mypriorities have changed and Ihave begun to value theimportant things of life. Beforethis incident, I used to attendThursday classes regularly.Now, I am not able to go tocentre, but Baba is still therefor me. The B.K. sisters areclose to us and I always say toSister Vedanti, “I am just a callaway, if there is any serviceof my capacity, let me know.”In spite of my limitedcontributions, because of mydisability, she always says“You never shy away from anyservice.” And I know it is allBaba’s doing, not mine.

The outcome of the incidentcould have been worse, like amemory loss or somethingworse. But, I thank Baba thatnothing like that happened. Hemade me so strong mentallythat I could pass this test.What also helped me wasBaba’s knowledge to lead asimple and pure life. Leadinga simple life always helps youand you are able to come outof any trauma much faster. Notusing any intoxicants orcigarettes, etc. helped my bodyto recover fast.

Even the doctor, who tookcare of me, told that mysurvival was nothing short ofa miracle. The bullet hit just

half centimetre away fromAorta (the large arterial trunkthat carries blood from theheart to be distributed bybranch arteries to other partsof the body); if it had hit there,it would have resulted in instantdeath. There are people, whoface adversaries and aredepressed, but when they seeme, they feel, thus, veryenthusiastic: “Why should Igive up? If Deepak can do it, Ican also do it.” So, now, mylife is an example for positivelymotivating other people andcreating optimism in them.

The incident has made me amuch stronger person mentally.I’ve been able to deal withthings that I never thought Icould. The human spirit ispretty amazing and I evensurprise myself at times. Mydriving force is based onwanting to fix my mistakes andhave a positive perspective. Idon’t know who did this to me;maybe someone, who hadenmity with me; but I don’t

want to question it, or find outwho it was. Yesterday is gone,and tomorrow we don’t knowwhat is to come. Today is theday and I want to live it. I seeand take it this way, thinking:No one is my enemy and noone is my competitor.

If we hold hard feelings forothers, it means we don’t trustBaba and Drama. One has tohave faith in Baba that He isthe canopy of protection andwe don’t need to worry. Babais always there to hold us. Hehas made me live and see thegood things that life has tooffer.

I hope to be able to motivateothers and convey the messagethat disability is not aninability. There is life beyondthis. Being disabled does notmean you give up. Rememberthere is God, and when He iswith you, nothing can stop you.Having and feeling the love ofGod, Shiva Baba – the Saviourand Light of my life – is the bestgift for me in my life.

APPRECIATION FOR WHAT EACH ONE DOESLet me have a vision of appreciation for what each one does.

This gives happiness to other souls. There is value in appreciation.The work one is doing, another can’t do. It’s my own good andsubtle feelings that give benefit to others. The quality of mythoughts determines the quality of my actions and the quality ofmy actions impacts the quality of my thoughts. There is only air inside and it willburst any moment. There is a lotof vacuum. There is nosubstance inside but onlypretence of different kinds. Aperson with a little educationthinks that he is a scholarlyperson; one with a degree or twothinks that one knows everythingin the universe and is omniscient;one with little authority thinksthat one is the master of theuniverse; one, who has people’ssupport, thinks that one is themost popular person; one, whohas wealth and money, thinks thatone is the richest person in theworld; one with a good body andfair skin thinks that one is themost handsome and beautifulperson in the world and so on.Based on these lines of thinking,people often put up a lot of showwithout any substance. Suchpeople are living in a dreamlandand at a subnormal or abnormallevel. Their consciousness isclouded and judgement isblurred. They are intellectually,logically and spiritually ignorant.Such people are seen to bearrogant. These days, we are verymuch aware of the importanceof physical health, but why notgive the same attention tomental and emotional healthtoo. The mind thinks, studies,works, interacts with relationsand does everything for us 24x7and it is the mind, which alsostrongly influences physicalhealth.

Keeping the mind healthy isvery easy. For proper care ofthe body, we need the rightdiet and exercise. Similarly, tocare for the mind, we just needthe right diet of pureinformation and the exercise ofRajayoga meditation daily,even to begin with 15-20minutes daily is enough.

Everything that an individual does, i.e., a soul does usingthe medium of the physical body is registered in the soul as asanskara. Sanskaras, therefore, are the foundation of ourpresent personalities and all our special talents andinclinations. There have been many famous personalitiesincluding artists, musicians, engineers, sportsmen, etc. who,before attaining phenomenal success in their respective fields,displayed amazing talents related to their respective field at avery young age. When and where could they have masteredthese talents so well? It’s obvious that amazing masteries ata very young age are not inherited from our parents. Thesetalents have been developed and brought into practice inprevious births, as a result of which sanskaras of the talentsare created inside the soul. These sanskaras are then carriedforward into the next births, and are brought into actions in thenew births.

A more common day-to-day example is the following: Achild is born into a family of doctors where, from the beginning,all efforts are made to mould and prepare him to become adoctor, according to family tradition. However, from an earlyage, the child shows strong tendencies to become an actor,starts to take part extensively in theatre activities at schooland the talent starts manifesting itself. This exampledemonstrates that the characteristics a soul carries fromprevious experiences of previous births will take it in a specificdirection despite attempts made by the family on the contrary.So, in short, genius is experience. Some think that it is a giftor talent, but it is the fruit of long experience of many previouslives. Some are older souls than others, i.e., they have beenpresent on the world stage since a longer period of time andhave covered a journey of more number of births and so knowmore. The mind power thatcould remember The Vedas andThe Upanishads by merelylistening to them becomes veryfeeble. Sage Patanjali appearedon the world stage and gaveknowledge of Kriyayoga. SageVyas wrote The ShreematBhagavad so that the Vedicprinciples could be understoodby the feeble mind. But, this eraof Dwaparyuga deterioratedfurther. In Iron Age, evenKriyayoga and The ShreematBhagavad also became beyondthe grasp of people. TheBhagavad Gita and chanting ofHoly name became the easiestway for emancipation. Many of us don’t like to be ‘superstitious’but in some way or the other we all tend tobelieve in the influence of objects, omens,places or destiny... An intellectual mind usuallydiscards such notions saying nothing externalcan really influence the human spirit. However,spirituality shows us a balanced approach:although nature and physical objects/places are inanimate, the thoughts andfeelings experienced by human soulspermeate the environment and remainthere. Since the relationship between soul andbody is intimate and powerful, anything thebody experiences (be it intake of food or contactwith physical world) will affect the soul. If theenvironment I live in is physically andspiritually pure, it is easier for me toincrease my soul power.

He should remember thatchange is bound to take place,because the world cannot bethe same every day or evenevery hour. He, who isengaged in amassing muchwealth, is always busyemploying his faculties to earnmore and more, maintain andinvest it and also spend part ofit. He cannot get enough timeto devote himself to meditationof God and enjoy the bliss ofintellectual communion withHim.

God is the only Supportof the Poor

We have not to lose sight ofthe fact that wealthy people arevisited by low engagementsand longings and, having thusstrayed away from God, roamin dream cars and in the landof vices. Richness is not abouthaving a big mansion or aluxurious car or an entire

wardrobe of clothing. Livingrichly means figuring out whatto spend your time, money andenergy on, and what to ignore.Our culture praises those, whohave accumulated wealth andprestige, but in God’s economy,money is looked on verydifferently. God loves those,who live life with a sense ofpurpose and of committedvalues, and it is this life, whichcan only bring happiness andrichness. A person, who maynot be great financially buttakes God to be his onlysupport and is ready to handhimself over to the SupremeSoul, is spiritually wealthy. Byitself, wealth can lead one todeny or at least delay truespiritual riches. It is said in TheBible as follows that peopleshould trust God, but notwealth:“The rich must not boast in hisriches.But the one who boasts shouldboast in this,That he understands and knowsme –That I am the LORD, showingfaithful love,Justice and righteousness on theearth,For I delight in these things.This is the LORD’s declaration.(Jer. 9:23-24; HCSB)”

Those, who believe in therich condition of spiritualwealth, may say, “I will bevery prosperous in the comingGolden Age. The poor shall beraised up by God, the Merciful.Holding on to this virtue ofcontentment even in difficultsituations of the present, I shallmove on to the ever happyNew World of righteousnessby virtue of acceptingwhatever comes my way andhappily singing the praises ofGod. These bigwigs, proud oftheir riches and turned awayfrom God, shall leave behindall their riches. I am lucky, amillion times luckier than they,because I have become thechild and heir of God, theimmensely rich Father.”

Discontentment isBecause of Disease

Now, one may ask, “All thatyou say is perfectly right. But,there is another difficulty. Thisbody of ours is a source ofworry. When anyone issuffering from chronic diseaseand does not get over it, in spiteof efforts, how can he becontented?”

Now, in answer to this, oneshould note that if illnesscauses discontent, the bodywill be affected oroverpowered all the more by

this feeling, because mental worry surelyinfluences the body. So, discontentment doesmore harm than good. There is an intimateand dynamic relationship between what isgoing on with our feelings and thoughts, andwhat happens in the body. A TIME magazinespecial showed that happiness, hopefulness,optimism and contentment “appear to reducethe risk or limit the severity of cardiovasculardisease, pulmonary disease, diabetes,hypertension, colds and upper-respiratoryinfections,” while “unhappiness anddiscontent-ment can worsen heart disease,diabetes and a host of other illnesses.”

Illness is very real, accidents do happen, butit is the understanding that when the mind andbody works together then we will be able tomiraculously cure ourselves. In fact, oneshould tune one’s mind on to God and fill itwith the divine power, which will help one tofight the disease. Love of God will helpenthusiasm to grow and bring vitality andliveliness.

Someone may say he has to be served byothers because of his helpless physicalcondition. But, a man, if placed in such asituation, must know that even if he is continuedto be attended upon by others, he should notbe dissatisfied with oneself or with hisattendants, as otherwise those latter will losetheir alacrity to work. They will say, “He isdissatisfied even though he receives duemedical treatment and service.” They willsimply be less enthusiastic than before.

PATIENCEPatience is a virtue and a power too.

Patience tells us that the journey of a thousandmiles begins with a single step and that we getover there one step at a time. Patience teachesus not to rush. Knowing that there is a reasonand a season for everything, it enables us tosmile at the challenges, realizing that there isan answer to every problem. And, even thoughwe cannot see it, yet there is awareness thatwithin every crisis lies an opportunity.

A deep understanding and an attitude of purefeelings results in positive thinking. When wetalk about positive thinking, it is usually just‘think positive’ and ‘be positive’. But, just sayingthis, either to others or to myself, doesn’t helpto change my thoughts permanently, in fact,usually, not even temporarily. Real positivethinking is much deeper than just to thinkpositive. For this, I need to understand and seethings as they are, without colouring them withmy own attitudes. Then, I can deal with thingsin the most appropriate way, having understoodeverything accurately.

Hence, it oughtto be clear that one should not feel discontented butconsider that all that is around him is soon to vanish.Only then will you come to have contentment.
