The World’s Most Dangerous Arms Race “And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom” Matthew 24:7. “The Lord will arise to shake terribly the earth. We shall see troubles on all sides. Thousands of ships will be hurled into the depths of the sea. Navies will go down, and human lives will be sacrificed by millions. Fires will break out unexpect- edly and no human effort will be able to quench them. The palaces of earth will be swept away in the fury of the flames. Disasters by rail will become more and more frequent. Confusion, collision and death without a moment’s warning will occur on the great lines of travel. The end is near, probation is closing. Oh, let us seek God while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near” (Messages to Young People, 89-90). Global tensions are rising and creating a nuclear arms race the likes of which we have never seen. America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East are all in a race to build up their military powers amid perceived threats and provocations of war. War is everywhere. It’s on everyone’s mind. Military exercises are increasing and armed patrolling of boarders and oceans are bringing tensions between nations to a boil- ing point. Territorial disputes are turning old allies into new enemies. Certain disputed islands in the South China Sea have proved a showdown be- tween the U.S. and China. This has led to a military build-up and neither Donald Trump nor China is backing down. America has warned the Chinese to cease and desist all activities in the area 1 and China has responded with threats of nuclear war. 2 “Now for a long season Israel hath been without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law...And in those times there was no peace to him that went out, nor to him that came in, but great vexations were upon all the in- habitants of the countries. “And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep:

for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed” Romans 13:11.

God did vex them with all adversity; both with foreign enemies and civil strife; and now today this seems to be our case again, as we too have not kept close to the Lord our God. Our generation is also guilty of rejecting God’s moral authority. “In the last scenes of this earth’s history war will rage. There will be pestilence, plague and famine. The waters of the deep will overflow their bounda-ries. Property and life will be destroyed by fire and flood. We should be preparing for the mansions that Christ has gone to prepare for them that love Him” (Maranatha, 174). Russia is expanding and boosting its nuclear arsenal and mobiliz-ing its military in strategic locations in preparation for any armed aggression. Russia has Europe on edge after its an-nexation of Crimea.3 There is a nu-clear showdown de-veloping on the Ko-rean Peninsula. North Korea’s nu-clear threat has the Asian Pacific coun-tries nervous. The regional nations are trying to figure out how to deal with North Korea’s expanding missile research and testing. Both the U.S. and China are closely watching these develop-ments.4 Nuclear-power Iran is fighting a proxy war with Saudi Arabia right now with Yemen being used as the battle field. Saudi Arabia has expressed that if Iran does not keep itself in check they will be forced to go nuclear.5 Israel, another nuclear power,6 is ready to take out Iran’s nuclear development program at any mo-ment that it feels its security and very existence is threatened. Iran’s recent missile test is provoking a conflict with Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United States and its allies. A rise in Islamic militancy in nuclear-armed Paki-stan has lead to recent threats of nuclear war with Israel.7 This is also creating added tensions in the Middle East as more and more countries in this re-gion become nuclear powers. The ongoing rivalry between Pakistan and India is the most likely situation today that could produce a nuclear war between the two powerful countries and could result in the deployment of nuclear

bombs. Pakistan has already threatened India that it would use its nuclear weapons against India if at-tacked.8 Our world is in a dangerous situation like it has not been in before. We are talking about 15 different nations who are boosting up their nuclear programs. France and the United Kingdom also have nuclear weapons. Germany doesn't have any but they have the capability to develop nuclear weapons quickly if necessary, and other nations also have the capabil-ity. We are seeing for the first time how Muslim na-tions are developing nukes. Should they fall into the hands of ISIS through some back-door deal or

through some other means—what hope do we have? All we can do is pray; pray for grace that we may escape this coming conflict; pray that we may spiritually be ready for anything, and that we may help spread the gospel to as many people as possible. “Watch ye there-fore, and pray al-ways, that ye may be accounted worthy to

escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man” Luke 21:36. “The conditions prevailing in society, and espe-cially in the great cities of the nations, proclaim in thunder tones that the hour of God’s judgment is come and that the end of all things earthly is at hand. We are standing on the threshold of the crisis of the ages. In quick succession the judgments of God will follow one another—fire, and flood, and earthquake, with war and bloodshed. We are not to be surprised at this time by events both great and decisive; for the angel of mercy cannot remain much longer to shelter the impenitent” (Prophets and Kings, 278). The World is Preparing for Armageddon The nations of the world believe that a nuclear holocaust is coming with all these recent events. They are storing wheat, rice, beans, corn and other seeds in a vault deposit close to the North Pole in order to protect global food supplies in case a nu-clear fall-out destroys food production.9 The nations are expecting the worst case sce-nario and are preparing for it. There is no question

that God is holding back the winds of strife until His people are sealed with the seal of the living God (Revelation 7:1-3). We are told that God will intervene in a supernatural way and shorten the time period of this prophetic generation: “And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened” Matthew 24:22. “And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?” Luke 18:7. “And at that time shall Mi-chael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trou-ble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book” Daniel 12:1. Believers are given assurances that the day of trouble and war will not last forever. Jesus is at the door and will return in glory soon. We are not to hang our heads down and become discouraged, but rather we are commanded to hold our heads up and to rejoice because redemption is sure to follow. “And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your re-demption draweth nigh” Luke 21:28. “God’s messengers in the great cities are not to become discouraged over the wickedness, the in-justice, the depravity, which they are called upon to face while endeavoring to proclaim the glad tidings of salvation. The Lord would cheer every such worker with the same message that He gave to the apostle Paul in wicked Corinth: ‘Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace: for I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city’ Acts 18:9, 10.” (Prophets and Kings, 277). Now whether or not the next world crisis ends in nuclear war is something that only the Lord knows. One thing is certain: Armageddon is coming, for the Lord Himself will set all things in order and we need to be getting ready for what is about to come. “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in

the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with

fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. See-ing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what man-ner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heav-ens being on fire shall be dis-solved, and the elements shall m e l t w i t h f e r v e n t heat? Nevertheless we, ac-cording to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteous-ness” 2 Peter 3:10-13. The Lord Himself will come and bring an end to this rebel-lious, sinful world filled with war. Jesus will prepare a new heavens and a new earth from the ashes of the old. And if we

are faithful, if we love Him and keep His command-ments, then we will reign with the righteous forever-more in the peaceful earth made new.

Fundamental Principles In presenting to the public this synopsis of our faith, we wish to have it distinctly understood that we have no articles of faith, creed or discipline, aside from the Bible. We do not put forth this as having any authority with our people, nor is it de-signed to secure uniformity among them, as a sys-tem of faith, but is a brief statement of what is, and has been, with great unanimity, held by them. We often find it necessary to meet inquiries on this subject, and sometimes to correct false state-ments circulated against us, and to remove errone-ous impressions which have obtained with those who have not had an opportunity to become ac-quainted with our faith and practice. Our only object is to meet this necessity. As Seventh-day Adventists, we desire simply that our position shall be understood; and we are more solicitous for this because there are many who call themselves Adventist who hold views with which we can have no sympathy, some of which, we think, are subversive of the plainest and most important principles set forth in the Word of God. As compared with other Adventists, Seventh-day Adventists differ from one class in believing in the unconscious state of the dead, and the final destruc-tion of the unrepentant wicked; from another in be-lieving in the perpetuity of the law of God as sum-marily contained in the ten commandments, in the operation of the Holy Spirit in the church, and in set-ting no times for the advent to occur; from all in the observance of the seventh-day of the week as the Sabbath of the Lord, and in many applications of the prophetic Scriptures. With these remarks, we ask the attention of the reader to the following propositions which aim to be a concise statement of the more prominent features of our faith.

Below is a copy of the Declaration of the Fundamental Principles taught and practiced by Seventh-day Adventists, first published by Steam Press, Seventh-day Adventist Publishing Association, Battle Creek, Michigan, 1872. The entire text is included below. To view the original 14-page booklet printed in 1872, please visit our website at: http://newlifemission1986.org/1872-SDA

Most church members and even most ministers and teachers are totally uninformed of the actual foundation of truth given to the Advent Move-ment! Take time to prayerfully study these 25 Fun-damental Principles that were taught and prac-ticed by Seventh-day Adventists. This 14-page booklet is being printed here in its entirety.

Declaration of Principles 1. There is one God, a personal, spiritual being, the creator of all things, omnipotent, omniscient, and eternal; infinite in wisdom, holiness, justice, goodness, truth, and mercy; unchangeable, and everywhere present by His representative, the Holy Spirit. Psalm 139:7. 2. That there is one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Eternal Father, the one by whom God cre-ated all things, and by whom they do consist; that He took on Him the nature of the seed of Abraham for the redemption of our fallen race; that He dwelt among men, full of grace and truth, lived our exam-ple, died our sacrifice and was raised for our justifi-cation. He ascended on high to be our only media-tor in the sanctuary in Heaven, where, with His own blood, He makes atonement for our sins; which atonement so far from being made on the cross, which was by the offering of the sacrifice, is the very last portion of His work as priest according to the example of the Levitical priesthood, which fore-shadowed and prefigured the ministry of our Lord in Heaven. Leviticus 16; Hebrews 8:4-5; 9:6-7. 3. That the Holy Scriptures, of the Old and New Testaments, were given by inspiration of God, con-tain a full revelation of His will to man, and are the only infallible rule of faith and practice. 4. That Baptism is an ordinance of the Christian church, to follow faith and repentance, an ordi-nance by which we commemorate the resurrection of Christ, as by this act we show our faith in His burial and resurrection, and through that, of the res-urrection of all the saints at the last day; and that no other mode fitly represents these facts than that which the Scriptures prescribe, namely, immersion. Romans 6:3-5; Colossians 2:12. 5. That the new birth comprises the entire change necessary to fit us for the kingdom of God, and consists of two parts: first, a moral change wrought by conversion and a Christian life; second, a physical change at the second coming of Christ, whereby, if dead, we are raised incorruptible, and if living, are changed to immortality in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye. John 3:3-5; Luke 20:36; 1 Corinthians 15:51-55. 6. We believe that prophecy is a part of God’s revelation to man; that it is included in that Scripture which is profitable for instruction; that it is designed for us and our children; that so far from being en-shrouded in impenetrable mystery, it is that which especially constitutes the Word of God, a lamp to our feet and a light to our path; that a blessing is pronounced upon those who study it, and that con-

sequently, it is to be understood by the people of God sufficiently to show them their position in the world’s history, and the special duties required at their hands. 2 Peter 1:19; 2 Timothy 3:16; Deuteron-omy 29:29; Psalm 119:105; Revelation 1:1-3. 7. That the world’s history from specified dates in the past, the rise and fall of empires, and chrono-logical succession of events down to the setting up of God’s everlasting kingdom, are outlined in numer-ous great chains of prophecy; and that these prophecies are now all fulfilled except the closing scenes. 8. That the doctrine of the world’s conversion and temporal millennium is a fable of these last days, calculated to lull men into a state of carnal security, and cause them to be overtaken by the great day of the Lord as by a thief in the night; that the second coming of Christ is to precede, not fol-low, the millennium; for until the Lord appears, the papal power, with all its abominations, is to con-tinue, the wheat and tares grow together, and evil men and seducers wax worse and worse, as the Word of God declares. 9. That the mistake of Adventists in 1844 per-tained to the nature of the event then to transpire, not to the time; that no prophetic period is given to reach to the second advent, but that the longest one, the two thousand and three hundred days of Daniel 8:14, terminated in that year, and brought us to an event called the cleansing of the sanctuary. 10. That the sanctuary of the new covenant is the tabernacle of God in Heaven, of which Paul speaks in Hebrews 8, and onward, of which our Lord, as great High Priest, is minister; that this sanc-tuary is the antitype of the Mosaic tabernacle, and that the priestly work of our Lord, connected therewith, is the antitype of the work of the Jewish priests of the former dispensation. Hebrews 8:1-5. That this is the sanctuary to be cleansed at the end of the 2300 days, what is termed its cleansing being in this case, as in the type, simply the entrance of the high priest into the Most Holy Place, to finish the round of service connected therewith, by blotting out and removing from the sanctuary the sins which had been transferred to it by means of the ministration in the first apartment; and that this work, in the anti-type, commencing in 1844, occupies a brief but in-definite space, at the conclusion of which the work of mercy for the world is finished. Hebrews 9:22-28. 11. That God’s moral requirements are the same upon all men in all dispensations; that these are summarily contained in the commandments spoken by Jehovah from Sinai, engraven on the tables of

“But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.” 1 Peter 4:7. “It was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly

contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints” Jude 1:3.

stone, and deposited in the ark, which was in con-sequence called the “ark of the covenant,” or testa-ment; that this law is immutable and perpetual, be-ing a transcript of the tables deposited in the ark in the true sanctuary on high, which is also, for the same reason, called the ark of God’s testament; for under the sounding of the seventh trumpet we are told that “the temple of God was opened in Heaven, and there was seen in His temple the ark of His tes-tament.” Numbers 10:33; Hebrews 9:4; Revelation 10:7; Revelation 11:19. 12. That the fourth commandment of this law requires that we devote the seventh day of each week, commonly called Saturday, to abstinence from our own labor, and to the performance of sa-cred and religious duties; that this is the only weekly Sabbath known to the Bible, being the day that was set apart before paradise was lost; and which will be observed in paradise restored. Gene-sis 2:2-3; Isaiah 66:22-23. That the facts upon which the Sabbath institution is based, confine it to the seventh day, as they are not true of any other day; and that the terms, Jewish Sabbath and Chris-tian Sabbath as applied to the weekly rest day, are names of human invention, unscriptural in fact, and false in meaning. 13. That as the man of sin, the papacy, has thought to change times and laws (the laws of God), and has misled almost all Christendom in re-gard to the fourth commandment; we find a proph-ecy of a reform in this respect to be wrought among believers just before the coming of Christ. Daniel 7:25; Isaiah 56:1-2; 1 Peter 1:5; Revelation 14:12. 14. That as the natural or carnal heart is at en-mity with God and His law, this enmity can be sub-dued only by a radical transformation of the affec-tions, the exchange of unholy for holy principles; that this transformation follows repentance and faith, is the special work of the Holy Spirit, and con-stitutes regeneration or conversion. 15. That as all have violated the law of God, and cannot of themselves render obedience to His just requirements, we are dependent on Christ, first, for justification from our past offenses, and secondly, for grace whereby to render acceptable obedience to His holy law in time to come. Romans 3:10; Ha-bakkuk 2:4. 16. That the Spirit of God was promised to mani-fest itself in the church through certain gifts, enu-merated especially in 1 Corinthians 12 and Ephe-sians 4; that these gifts are not designed to super-sede, or take the place of the Bible, which is suffi-cient to make us wise unto salvation, any more than the Bible can take the place of the Holy Spirit. That

in specifying the various channels of its operation, the Holy Spirit has simply made provision for its own existence and presence with the people of God to the end of time, to lead to an understanding of the Word which it had inspired, to convince of sin, and work a transformation in the heart and life; and that those who deny to the Spirit its place and operation, do plainly deny that part of the Bible which assigns to it this work and position. John 14-16. 17. That God, in accordance with His uniform dealings with the race, sends forth a proclamation of the approach of the second advent of Christ; that this work is symbolized by the three messages of Revelation 14, the last one bringing to view the work of reform on the law of God, that His people may acquire a complete readiness for that event. 18. That the time of the cleansing of the sanctu-ary (see proposition 10), synchronizing with the time of the proclamation of the third message, is a time of the investigative judgment, first with reference to the dead, and at the close of probation with refer-ence to the living; to determine who of the myriads now sleeping in the dust of the earth are worthy of a part in the first resurrection, and who of its living multitudes are worthy of translation—points which must be determined before the Lord appears. Reve-lation 22:11-12. 19. That the grave whither we all tend, ex-pressed by the Hebrew sheol, and the Greek hades, is a place of darkness in which there is no work, de-vice, wisdom, or knowledge. Ecclesiastes 9:10. 20. That the state to which we are reduced by death is one of silence, inactivity, and entire uncon-sciousness. Psalm 146.4; Ecclesiastes 9:5-6; Daniel 12:2. 21. That out of this prison of the grave of man-kind are to be brought by a bodily resurrection, the righteous having part in the first resurrection, which takes place at the second advent of Christ, the wicked in the second resurrection, which takes place a thousand years thereafter. Revelation 20:4-6. 22. That at the last trump, the living righteous are to be changed in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, and with the resurrected righteous are to be caught up to meet the Lord in the air, so forever to be with God. 1 Corinthians 15:51-55; 1 Thessalo-nians 4:13-18. 23. That these immortalized ones are then taken to Heaven, to the New Jerusalem, the Father’s house in which there are many mansions; where they reign with Christ a thousand years, judging the world and fallen angels, that is, apportioning the punishment to be executed upon them at the close

of the one thousand years. John 14:1-3; Revelation 20:4; 1 Corinthians 6:2-3. That during this time the earth lies in a desolate and chaotic condition; de-scribed, as in the beginning by the Greek term abussos, bottomless pit (Septuagint of Genesis 1:2); and that here Satan is confined during the thousand years; here finally destroyed; the theater of the ruin he has wrought in the universe, being appropriately made for a time his gloomy prison house, and then the place of his final execution. Jeremiah 4:20-27; Revelation 20:1-2; Revelation 20:10; Malachi 4:1. 24. That at the end of the thousand years, the Lord descends with His people and the New Jeru-salem; the wicked dead are raised and come up upon the surface of the yet unrenewed earth, and gather about the city, the camp of the saints; and fire comes down from God out of heaven and de-vours them. They are then consumed root and branch; becoming as though they had not been. Revelation 21:2; Revelation 20:9; Malachi 4:1; Oba-diah 15-16. In this everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, the wicked meet the everlast-ing punishment threatened against them. This is the perdition of ungodly men, the fire which consumes them being the fire for which “the heavens and the earth which are now,” are kept in store, which shall melt even the elements with its intensity, and purge the earth from the deepest stains of the curse of sin. 2 Thessalonians 1:9; Matthew 25:46; 2 Peter 3:7-12. 25. That a new heavens and earth shall spring forth by the power of God from the ashes of the old, to be, with the New Jerusalem for its metropolis and capital, the eternal inheritance of the saints, the place where the righteous shall evermore dwell. 2 Peter 3:13; Psalm 37:11 and 29; Matthew 5:5. Note: This is the first known “statement of be-liefs” published in 1872, by the Seventh-day Ad-ventist Church which was first established as an organization in 1863. A few Bible texts were added by this editor. The additional texts are high-lighted in bold.

Spirit of Prophecy “We are God’s commandment-keeping people. For the past fifty years every phase of heresy has been brought to bear upon us, to becloud our minds regarding the teaching of the Word, espe-cially concerning the ministration of Christ in the heavenly sanctuary, and the message of heaven for these last days, – as given by the angels of the fourteenth chapter of Revelation. Messages of every order and kind have been urged upon Sev-

enth-day Adventists, to take the place of the truth which, point by point, has been sought out by prayerful study, and testified to by the miracle-working power of the Lord. But the waymarks which have made us what we are, [these] are to be preserved, and they will be preserved, as God has signified through His Word and the testimony of His Spirit. He calls upon us to hold firmly, with the grip of faith, to the fundamental principles that are based upon unquestionable authority” (Series B, No. 2:59). “Said my accompanying angel, ‘Woe to him who shall move a block or stir a pin of these messages. The true understanding of these messages is of vital importance. The destiny of souls hangs upon the manner in which they are received’ ” (Early Writings: 258, 259). “Our people need to understand the reasons of our faith and our past experiences. How sad it is that so many of them apparently place unlimited confidence in men who present theories tending to uproot our past experiences and to remove the old landmarks! Those who can so easily be led by a false spirit show that they have been following the wrong captain for some time—so long that they do not discern that they are departing from the faith, or that they are not building upon the true founda-tion” (Selected Messages, 2:25). “Many know so little about their Bibles that they are unsettled in the faith. They remove the old land-marks, and fallacies and winds of doctrine blow them hither and thither. Science, falsely so-called, is wearing away the foundation of Christian principle; and those who once were in the faith drift away from the Bible landmarks, and divorce themselves from God, while still claiming to be His chil-dren” (Evangelism, 362). “All this cry about changing the old landmarks is all imaginary. Now at the present time God designs a new and fresh impetus shall be given to His work. Satan sees this, and he is determined it shall be hin-dered. He knows that if he can deceive the people who claim to believe present truth, [and make them believe that] the work the Lord designs to do for His people is a removing of the old landmarks, some-thing which they should, with most determined zeal, resist” (Counsels to Writers and Editors, 31). “The enemy of souls has sought to bring in the supposition that a great reformation was to take place among Seventh-day Adventists, and that this reformation would consist in giving up the doctrines which stand as the pillars of our faith, and engaging in a process of reorganiza-tion” (Selected Messages, 1:204).

“But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.” 1 Peter 4:7. “And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and

fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers” Acts 2:42.

All Heaven Wept By Rachael Perry & Patti Heinrich

Adapted

Just wait in faith …

There standing on the crystal sea, God’s children sing majestically. From heaven’s courts the tears will flow, Now tears of joy; and not of woe! “Love is the conqueror of the foe!” No more will heaven weep.

Satan and his angel host, Once were loyal to their post, Greed and doubt grew in each heart, And they from heaven must depart. Then all heaven wept.

Down to Earth the serpent came, Brought to man his deepest shame. Angels watched with great remorse As sinful nature took its course. Again all heaven wept.

Evil men arose to fight On man and beast a serious blight. Satan smiled in ghoulish glee, “Now I have humanity!” And all heaven wept.

Says he, “I’ll show them, let them see, That Christ Himself can’t make them free!” But Jesus’ life and death exposed That lie of Lucifer, all Heaven knows. As all heaven wept.

Apostles went to all the world To every nation, truth unfurled. Then worst of all, a power was born Who caused the heavens again to mourn. And all heaven wept.

The Papal beast of lawless deeds, The man of sin and apostasy. To the wilderness God’s people fled, Dark the ages, much blood was shed. While all heaven wept.

Disobedience knows no bounds; Bodies heaped in bloody mounds. Testifies what sin can do, When Satan and his girlfriend rules. Still all heaven weeps.

Though we know the Papacy’s wrong, Oft we think it’s been too long, Then we pray, “O Lord, how long Will You permit this sin go on? How long will heaven weep?”

Then He speaks, voice laced with tears, “On and on throughout the years, Pain must show what sin can do; But love in Me must shine through you. How long will heaven weep?”

And on it goes, the pain, the death, Until Earth breathes its final breath. The plagues will fall on Satan’s throne As Jesus comes to claim His own. Soon heaven will not weep.
