The World’s Most Expensive Homes

If you’re thinking about about building your own starter castle home or luxury mansion castle, you’ve probably been wondering what other luxury homes there are out there and how your dream house measures up. Well, if you’re worried about keeping up with the Jones’s, try to steer clear of these three of the world’s most luxurious and expensive homes.

Antilia

Built for India's richest man, Mukesh Ambani (who is also the 9th richest man in the world according to Forbes), this 27 story tower in Mumbai is the world’s first billion dollar home. In addition to the lobby which features 9 elevators, the house (if it can even really be called that) has over 400,000 square feet of entertainment space with a fully sized theatre, snack bar and wine room. It also has an entire level dedicated to fitness with a Jacuzzi, yoga studio, dance studio, gyms, changing rooms, a juice bar and solarium. The building’s ballroom showcases a crystal chandelier that takes up 80% of the ceiling and can seat hundreds of guests and even has a stage for performers.

If you think 27 stories is a little over the top for even the most extravagant of homes, just remember that the first six floors are strictly for parking. And if parking ever gets tight Ambani can just take off from one of his three helipads.

Fairfield Pond

Fairfield Pond is considered the largest residential compound (it’s simply too extravagant to be called a house) in the United States. It is also the single most expensive home in the country, costing a reported $170 million. Spread out over 63 acres, Fairfield pond was built by US billionaire Ira Rennert and is located in the Hamptons, playground to the East Coast’s wealthiest families. The main house has over 66,000-square-feet of space with 29 bedrooms and 39 bathrooms. Fairfield Pond also sports a basketball court, a bowling alley, two tennis courts, two squash courts, and a $150,000 hot tub.

One Hyde Park

A two-story, London penthouse at One Hyde Park went for more than £6,000 (just under $10,000) per square foot, costing a cool £140,000,000 ($215,000,000+) back in 2010. One of the One Hyde Park’s most interesting features is a tunnel to the neighboring Mandarin Oriental Hotel, which allow residents access to 24-hour room service. Just to cement its luxury status high-performance car-maker McLaren is opening a showroom on the ground floor. One Hyde Park also has top-notch security features including bullet-proof windows, SAS-trained security guards, an air purifier to frustrate poison gas attacks, eye-scanners keep out intruders and a ‘panic room,’ just in case they somehow make it past everything else.
