Call to Worship
Prayer of Adoration
GIVE PRAISE AND THANKS TO GOD_________________
*Hymn # 728 “God of the Ages, Whose Almighty Hand”
Deacons will collect prayer requests
*Prayer of Confession
Merciful God, in your gracious presence we confess our
sin and the sin of this world. Although Christ is among us as
our peace, we are a people divided against ourselves as we cling
to the values of a broken world. We pursue profit and
pleasures. We harbor fears and jealousies that set neighbor
against neighbor. We abuse your good gifts. Lord, have mercy
upon us; heal and forgive us. Set us free to serve you in the
world as agents of your reconciling love in Jesus Christ. Amen.
*Assurance of God’s Forgiveness
*Congregational Response Hymn #48
Great Father of Glory, pure Father of light, thine angels
adore thee, all veiling their sight; all praise we would render, O
help us to see: ’tis only the splendor of light hideth thee.
Time with the Children
Anthem
Joys and Concerns
Prayers of the People and the Lord’s Prayer
…Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy
kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give
us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we
forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver
us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the
glory, forever. Amen.
Offering our Gifts to God
*Doxology Hymn # 34
Praise God from whom all blessings flow;
Praise him, all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heavenly host:
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
*Prayer of Dedication
*Hymn # 704 “We Meet as Friends at Table”
GOD’S WORD READ AND PROCLAIMED______________ Scripture James 1:19-27 (See Insert)

continual offering to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Greetings to you in the name of our glorious Lord Jesus Christ! Everyone has a
favorite book, person, movie, or place. Favoritism is unavoidable in human
interactions. Yet James calls God’s people to avoid favoritism in the body of
Christ, especially with regard to people who are perceived as being different. In
God’s church everyone is welcome. The teaching of the Apostle James
encourages us all to move toward Christ’s way of relating to people—the way
of love, mercy, and grace. Thanks for joining us today as we offer our thanks
and praise to our loving God who shows no favoritism. -Pastor Karl
