A Butterfly to the Sea

Across the distance, flies a butterfly…

Splitting land and sea.

And though the wind, tries to usher it away from defeat…

She is drawn to all that awaits, within the unknown.

Into the mesmerizing vastness, she is set afloat within her psychosis.

She hides within. She hides within. She hides within.

Kennedy

Crossing bridges... No sea below.

Haunted spaces, where I’d hide,

only to rise and howl.

Those days are gone. I’ve grown so much,

yet my spirit still yearns with each passing second,

to return back there.

To go back there… A top the castle,

watching the sunset. Please don’t take me wrong...

I have no regrets.

We’d stand on top of that rooftop and watch the sun sink into the ocean....

Those days, youth lost in haste. There was so much to still discover,

but we left in a hurried pace, as if the hurricane would swallow us

and take us under.

lightsOFF

In a parked car, I sit in your lot.

Your room light turns on. Silhouette,

moves across the room. You disappear… Then come back.

Your body moves… Grace alive! I wait here,

for you.

Lights off. Lights off. Lights on.

Your Living Room,

Kitchen too. A sip of coffee,

a bite of a muffin. Keys in hand.

Lights off. Lights off.

Madrid

You hide, I seek.

Just a few loose teeth, bumps, and bruises. It was a late night…

We were just trying to beat the curfew. Neither of us thought

it was possible to split me in two.

Stay close, close to the curve of the curb. Why did it feel like forever?

Why couldn’t I feel anything at all? Held back pain, silence to void the scowl.

You know it’s true. The scars still show. The scars still show.

The World is Yours

The world is yours. In it, I am just a stool on which they climb.

…But it’s not for them.

At night, you come down and set my mind alight.

You are all that I could hope for… Protecting me from these fools.

The world is yours,

and I, I am in it for the moment. Please take care of me…

Don’t let me fall to my demise on your watch.

There are two hands holding me,

forever in suspension.

The air is thick. Your fragrance carries me, as they fall to their doom.

This world is yours, and on it, I just want to rule with you.

Yesterday

Oh where, where have all the days gone? It feels like it was just yesterday.

…Yesterday, we,

we were walking in the sand. Hand in hand

Oh where, where has all the time gone?

It feels like it was just yesterday. …Yesterday,

we, we were walking in the sand.

Hand in hand.

Fences

Brothers… Across a fence.

A formidable distance.

Defeated. Succumbed.

…Score remains nil.

Polar bears. You… The laughter to the kill.

Me… The sadness that comes thereafter. Brothers. Defeated.

Succumbed.

As Innocence Breaks

Lets make it a date… You can be Shirley; I’ll be Tom,

and we can paint the town like Mary. Round a quarter to eight,

maybe we could meet at the patio around the corner. ….Share a plate of chasers and sip the evening,

into the wee hours of the morning. We can sit and discuss, colour patterns and worldviews,

fabrics and designer shoes, island folk and big city life…

And at the end of it, while the deep house infused trap

blends with the sultry summer night; We’ll gaze out at the stars… Twinkle twinkle little star, it’s plain to see your beauty in the shimmering of lights,

brought on by the passing cars. Like an old soul, I try to hail a taxi.

You a futuristic tinged classic, pull out your phone and go Uber on me.

We share a ride back to your place, and watch the stars on Turner Classic Movies;

All the while talking about the way life used to be, as the hours creep away like night does to dawn,

I must confess… as we lay in your bed this morning,

I could swear we were watching Looney Tunes, but it wasn’t Sam and Ralph in the field with a herd of sheep.

I could swear that Sam always clocked in, but this time, he wasn’t there. And no matter how I tried to find something else, it was everywhere…

A sick reality of innocent lives lost. I look at you, as you look on in disbelief,

and then your vibrant dress that you’ve had on since yesterday. And I wish I could take all those vibrant colours and shine a rainbow,

to shield all the beauty we as human beings possess, from the blinding perverse ugliness that we are bathed in.

I want to shine a rainbow for all those lost and let it be a ladder to a better place for them. I want to shine a rainbow to shower you in its warmth and to let you know that they are ok,

and we shall be too. I want to go back to eight pm last evening,

when you were Shirley, and I was Tom…

And together, we were going to paint the town love red.

Back to Where I Started

Darling, it’s been so long… Maybe we could take an aeroplane out,

nearly eight thousand miles. We can touch down, on a runway next to the beach,

where I used to love to go, play in the sand, and watch the crabs climb atop the rocks. Customs officer, yes I can confirm…

"My name is Sanjay Nataly Gandhi." With a smile she’d say, “Enjoy your stay.” And I’d be like “Thank you, we’ll be on our way.”

Taxi driver, take us for a drive. Turn right on Queens, by the soccer pitch where my brothers would play.

Take me down Kennedy Avenue, but before that, just a quick stop, at the Nataly building, that I used to know.

They had the best strawberry shakes, and I used to sit outside on the steps and wait

for their bus to come. So many memories fade,

but these are some that a lifetime can’t claim. Like the memories of when…

I climbed the bars up to the roof of our home, never seen sunsets like those, never seen sunsets like those.

I wonder Taxi driver… At the end of this street there used to be a school,

and maybe after, you can drop us off for dinner; Some old school fish fry on a Friday night.

We mustn’t stay too long, my dear. ’cause I might never leave.

So it be best that we leave before three nights. The say the heart can’t miss what it doesn’t know,

but six years is mighty long time not to realize, that you can leave,

but your soul always stirs when you think of home.

Sunrise over a riverbed. I wonder if it is you, rising from the dead.

Summer Daze

When the ice cream man comes by, you say, “I’d rather sit in the shade.

I don’t want to move, this heat is sweltering.”

The birds are all hiding in the trees. Me… I could be doing so much more,

but I rather be here. The air is thick and sticky,

black strap molasses, that’s the kind of day it has been.

Water gun fights… I’m the one with the hose pipe. You’re the one whispering… “We’ve got them on the run,

let’s go play hide and seek.”

Hide and Seek

Hiding in the closet… Summer days get too hot. We need space to cool off.

Hidden where we can’t be found. And if we should touch… Then touch me right there.

You know where. There, and there, you know where.

Headlights

It’s like a night parked out by the lakeshore.

Windows fogged, high beams on. Flashing lights, next to the car

with the red faced boy, who rolls down the window and says,

“Is everything ok officer?” To which a reply comes with a grin, “Son, you got your headlights on.”

…Now that’s a hell of a way to end the night.

Just Kids

I’m gonna go fly a kite.

You’re gonna learn to ride a bike. It’s ok, it’s ok, we’re just kids.

No harm, no foul…

We’re never going to ever throw in the towel.

You’re gonna

play video games. I’m gonna watch

the cartoons. it’s alright, it’s alright,

we’re just kids

Just Blink

Just yesterday, we were kids

running free in a playground. You were swinging from the monkey bars.

I, I was swinging back and forth, under the heat of the summer sun.

There was something about those days, when school was out

and the nights felt like they would never come. I remember building castles and moats,

going to the pond and watching the tadpoles. …playing tag, and hide and seek,

well after the lights came on. Nothing ever stays the same.

The day is nearly done, yet the worst is still to come. I thought we were merely having fun, but all this time, we’ve been on the run.

Deck of Cards

All there was, was a deck of cards…

Fifty-two in all.

From the deck of cards, you built by the numbers…

You were so proud of what you’d built, but the cracks were already forming.

…The foundation laid by jokers. With the wind,

you were left picking up the pieces of your love…

Fifty-two is all, you couldn’t help but to go to war.

You say, you’d rather fight, than to go fish on an empty lake.

It’s so hard to keep a straight face, when you’re sitting on the toilet of royalty.

The kids are screaming out… what’s nine plus ten?

Well son, it isn’t twenty-one.

In anger, the dealer is up in arms,

and with them fly, the deck of cards…

Fifty-two in all, Strewn about,

for the rest to pick up.

A house of cards,

full of jokers, kings and queens. What about the Ace…

Isn’t it always the case? …Could be number one,

but most times, he’s not even in the top ten.

A Rocket Ship of Dreams

I built us this rocket ship, so that we could leave this place… Travel through our solar system,

and find us a home, somewhere out in space.

We’ll travel past the moon and mars, on our way towards the distant stars.

Let our hearts guide us on this ultra-light path. Faster than the speed of light

we’ll pass the time; As lonely as it’ll be, gazing at the planets,

until they become speckles of dust in the distance. We can take our time;

It’ll be a crowded space for a month or two, but it’ll be better than where we’ve been.

Somewhere along the way, we’ll find a planet, that’s just right.

We don’t have to go too far; maybe somewhere in the Jovian system,

there’ll be a place for you and I. We can build a better world than this.

No one will ever have to know. No signs of where we came from,

only the future and the love of you and I.

A Boy I Know

Here’s the story about a boy I know. He came and turned a feuding house,

into a love-filled home.

And as he grew… It became clear; he was a child beyond his years. For with a heavy heart, he gracefully balanced

all that he had no control of from the start.

There’s a boy I know, whose questions, question the purpose of this life.

There’s a boy I know, Who in negativity always finds positivity.

There’s a boy I know, that cannot be contained by the notions of space and time.

Sometimes, it’s not as easy as one, two, three.

Sometimes, it’s not as straight forward as right or wrong.

But this boy I know, keeps his head up and stays strong.

Sometimes, it’s not all sorted out like the A, B, and C’s. Sometimes, it’s not handed down like a family name.

But this boy I know, wears it better than anyone I’ve met.

There’s a boy I know,

who they say has been raised right. But all I want is to do all I can…

Teach him not to think; To hear the silence within a scream.

There’s a boy I know, who they say is blessed.

But all I want, is to do all I can, to teach him how to dream.

To be a boy as he should, and not the man I’ve become.

There’s a boy I know, who’s awake in my dream.

There’s a boy I know, far wiser than his age. There’s a boy I know,

that has the world at his call.

A Boy I Know continued

In the world I see, he is to whom all else are measured.

In the world I see, he has no limit to what he can do.

In the world I see, he is already more of a man than many will ever be.

Hard fought endings bring about new beginnings. After all, there’s always a reason

for the turmoil of the season. And though seldom,

there are those who are seasoned with reason, to wade the turmoil.

Home

Quarter past three. Just stumbling around.

Tonight, these streets are home to me.

I’m out here waiting. waiting for the rain

to come down… To pelt me back to life.

Where am I now?

I’m not sure, which one of these houses…

I call a home.

Would you realize… If I were to leave your side?

Wander off… Into the abandoned night.

Into the abandoned night.

Would you wake,

and come guide me home?

In The Papers Today (New York Times)

The picture in the paper, is of a day of peace.

…But what does it mean?

The picture was of young lovers in Central Park,

and all around them they were surrounded by the dark.

The picture in the paper today, was from yesterday.

…And history is all that it is,

for I am the only one, sitting here today.

The darkness is nowhere to be found, And for all that surrounds,

is everyone else’s love and light. I’m going to get up and walk across the grass,

until I catch up to you again.

“HELLO” I scream. …”Hey you,

with the frizzy frazzled hair, a little past your shoulders.”

…That smile, that smile could brighten the day, a thousand miles away.

“Hey you.”

“Mz. with them big ole eyes, that capture me in a dazed glaze,

every single time I stare into them…”

“I love you, so won’t you stay?” “Maybe we could be in the papers again today?”

My Heart Belongs to My Home (…And My Home is You)

These fires burn deep into the night.

We’re on the only road out of this town. On the radio, Johnny’s signing ‘bout “When the Man Comes Around”,

and it leaves me to wonder, if this is what Neil was writing ‘bout “After the Gold Rush”, when he wrote about… a new home in the Sun.

Darlin’, it’s just you and me.

One hand on the wheel… The other in yours. We’re feeling the heat, as we ride out next to the billowing flames.

The smoke blends with the night in which we are caught. Caught in the steady moving line of brake lights.

Where do we go from here?

We’re miles away from anywhere, and the gasoline is hitting empty.

No possessions, just the clothes on our backs, the word of God, and each other.

My heart belongs to my home,

and my home is you. Wherever you are,

as long as you’re with me, it’s all that matters to me.

We’re out here in this makeshift city.

White tents lined up with the refugees. We keep praying for the rain to come,

but all that falls are tears of an unwelcome goodbye, to a home we built with these hands.

These spring winds never felt so hot.

They carry the warmth and love of a town gone cold. And as we stand in it’s path, it lifts away the tears.

For us, it brings the declaration of a new start.

Darlin’, in this life of ours, After it all burns away,

you know the roots will still be left waiting. Waiting for us to return home again.

My Heart Belongs to My Home (…And My Home is You) continued

My heart belongs to my home,

and my home is you. Wherever you are,

as long as you’re with me, it’s all that matters to me.

It doesn’t have to be the same, it doesn’t have to be different,

it just has to be us. We can get through it all… Hand in hand, side by side.

There isn’t a fight I wouldn’t fight, without you by my side.

Building a Bridge

Me and my brothers,

we’re a world apart.

Time did us no justice.

For our youth didn’t give us time to bond,

only sad goodbyes which pulled us apart.

Now we’re building a bridge across an ocean.

Enduring the waves of emotion.

There’s a light that you hold,

the warmth of which, keeps me whole.

Now we’re building a bridge across an ocean.

I can see where we started, but where we’ll end,

only the future knows.

You can never go back,

once the time between has left you apart.

Distance blurs memories,

in their place leaves an emptiness unmatched.

The pictures of us, grow scarce with age.

Empty pages in a book, remain hard to face.

We settle for cold acknowledgement over grievances.

which neither of us can recall.

Now we’re building a bridge across an ocean.

Soaked in the waves of commotion.

There’s a door that you hold open,

to a shelter which bares the soul.

Now we’re building a bridge across an ocean.

I can see where we started, but where we’ll end,

only the future knows.

The Physics of Our Being

With every new day, breaks the story of more inhabitable worlds.

Tell me, do you feel alone? Do you feel anything at all?

Am I the only one who has gone numb? The more we search the skies above,

the clearer the truth becomes. So tell me do you feel alone? Do you feel anything at all? Oh the physics of our being,

couldn’t disagree more. For there’s no denying,

they are here. There’s no denying,

they’re here, and we are but mere mortals,

salivating with rage in our own fears. For if we are to see what cannot be,

we must first accept the horrors of our deeds. Let it all fall away. Let it all fall away.

Separate the physics of what we’re told, from the spirit within.

Page 29: THE YAJNAS FOUR WEATHERED SOLES€¦ · Four weathered soles: INNOCENCE 4 Madrid You hide, I seek. Just a few loose teeth, bumps, and bruises. It was a late night… We were just

Hey Baby

Hey baby… Let’s take a walk outside, in the early morning hours.

See the array of stars spread across the sky;

Shimmering like the satin of your dress. …The light reflecting every part of you.

You are beauty like no other… For even the sun rises for you.

Let me be the purpose of your life. I want to live within our breaths.

I want you to be left slept in these arms, next to the sounds of the waves.

Hour Glass

I was drowning in the sand.

My arms flaying,

just trying to stay afloat.

The sands of time,

are pulling me to my death.

What happens when time suspends?

I was once on top,

my feet on the land.

…Now, I’m falling through.

The top becomes the bottom.

It’s a polar shift,

now I’m on the bottom.

Drowning in the sand,

as it comes on down…

Doing all I can to keep my head above,

but it keeps coming down in sheets.

Tell me, is this how it ends? I keep climbing through it,

hoping I can survive, until the next shift.

You Were Near There

You were never there. You were never there. Oh the nights I’d stare,

out the front door from the stairs. I lonely child in a full house.

Nowhere to turn to, in my room I’d confide in myself.

You were never there. You were never there.

From the top of the stairs, out the door, I would stare.

When Hearts Race

I see the years that have passed from when we first met,

flash in the space between us; as I lay awake next to you.

Remember how the snow was falling down,

the cars were sliding all around. White-knuckle driving,

just so we could see the previews. “Pretend it is sand on a beach,

we’ll get there in time.” You said to me,

as if you knew just where I wanted to be.

Oh how the time flies, when hearts race. When hearts race.

We got married, some summers thereafter.

Honeymoon left us with a flight to remember. Who knew you could start a fire with embers.

No compass, no direction, through rough waters, we found our way. A short time later, we ended up pregnant;

Held our breath, hoped for the best… We ended up with someone even “best-ter”.

Oh how the time flies, when hearts race.

When hearts race.

Just when the skies turned blue, I found myself becoming unglued and breaking into a million pieces.

But no matter how hard it became for you, you became our foundation…

Shouldering the weight without excuse.

All the sleepless nights, caring for him and watching me struggle to be.

It was all on you, when I became a ghost; Too far gone to realize where I was.

Page 33: THE YAJNAS FOUR WEATHERED SOLES€¦ · Four weathered soles: INNOCENCE 4 Madrid You hide, I seek. Just a few loose teeth, bumps, and bruises. It was a late night… We were just

When Hearts Race continued

Oh how the tears fell… Couldn’t tell if they were yours or mine;

Yet you kept yourself together, for the three of us. Just trying to catch a break, we’d try to escape.

But it seemed for the longest time, every door we’d find, would just circle us back.

Of those times, I don’t remember much, But I know you tried your best

to put me back together again and again.

Oh how the time flies, when hearts race. When hearts race.

I don’t know how you sheltered him from me;

Kept him strong, so full of happiness, love, and joy. You’d keep your head up, no matter what they’d say. Whenever I’d fall, you’d pick me up and lead me on.

We kept fighting, never gave up… You’d always find a way, to cut a pathway through the doom and gloom.

Yeah, I can see the light now; we’re finally there.

The clouds are parting… The river’s receding, And although the ground is still soft, you’ve stopped the damage.

We’ll take it a step at a time, repair the cracks, And rebuild from the ground up;

Life, love, hope, and home.

Oh how the time flies, when hearts race. When hearts race. When hearts race.

Words (Between a Poet and a Comic)

Laughter turns to silence. All your tomorrows, fill with sorrow. Things we could’ve done different…

Been more vocal, stayed close. It’s just time that I borrow…

A recluse, spinning words for an addiction.

Lately, I’ve been thinking, we should do this like we did Polar Bears.

Take our strengths and eliminate our weaknesses. In you, I see promise… Raw talent, yet to be harnessed.

Imagine poising that ability, trapping that electricity.

All the world’s a stage, best guided by a sage. You can make your own way, but you need to tap into the rage.

It’s been a long time in the Game; you have to break free from the crowd. …Your perspective is unlike any other, distinguish yourself in it.

Have you ever written what you spoke?

There’s a story there, waiting to be formed. A choose your own adventure of sorts,

Connecting you to the past and future.

I skipped that adventure… For while the world was moving,

I was in my room, putting words to paper. This gift overtook me.

It became a curse, consuming my every thought. And so, as I was drowning in the last transmissions,

It was you, who wrote Suicide.

Within the timeline, we are tangled in our struggle to set stride towards what we wish to achieve,

before those very timelines are defeated, by our dead line.

A Letter To You

I write this letter to you,

with letters that mend words, to close the divide.

They say in insecurities, we come thieves of ourselves.

Jealousy across a thread, we come apart.

We were once two in the same, but have ‘come night and day.

Passed the time in laughter and joy, you were always one to bring sanity.

These days, I can’t remember when I saw you last.

Did I say too much?

They always said, I said too much. Many times misunderstood,

maybe it would have been better, left at less.

Is it better off this way? Better that you left for right.

The depth of this distance,

is not lost on me. I know the truth of oceans and rivers,

and the waves that have come.

Between me and you, there’s a world of hurt.

I write this letter to you. Words fallen on a canvas,

meaningless to all, except you, whose eyes hold still.

Time (Makes a Fool of Us All)

Hey love, my love…

Where have the years gone? Darling, one look at you,

and it’s easy to see, it’s time that you have fooled.

It’s ten to one, I throw my arms into the air. My eyes are closed, but it’s you who I see.

Why is it that our love is held at a distance? The day comes and takes us away,

only to return us to each other once again. I’d trade it all in, so I could be with you instead.

It’s fifteen to three, and my arms are wide open…

Wanting nothing more than your embrace, but the time won’t go by fast enough.

I’m reminded of you by the afternoon Sun, and how it breathes new life into me.

Like life’s final push, it won’t be long now, ‘til I am with you.

It’s half past six, my hands are at my side,

but don’t be fooled, by what my appearance may suggest. I am brought back to life, by the light as it shines off your face.

All my stresses, disappear into the air, and the day’s struggles fade, into the past.

In all my gloom, you bring life, to my death, so know that, without you, I’d be a wreck.

It’s fifteen past nine, and my arms are wide open…

Wanting nothing more than your embrace. thoughts race through my mind,

this is a battle, I know I won’t win. My heart is yours, my mind is willed…

I’ve been defeated and numbed to a sleep.

It’s midnight, and hands are tied above me head. I’m sorry, so sorry.

All my flaws are coming to a head. I wish I could turn time back

to when I was a lion rather than a lamb. I’m sorry, so sorry,

but time has made a fool of me.

Time (Makes a Fool of Us All) continued

Tine goes, ticking away,

I have no excuses left to make. I’m sorry, so sorry.

I hope tonight will bring a better day.

Catching rain in plastic cups… Life can be a picnic, even on a rainy day.

Don’t let the worst of it, get the best of you.

This Cup

This cup was once full,

but time has left it nearly empty. I’ve been holding it out the window…

Hoping it would rain down, and fill this cup.

I want to see it overflow, but the rain won’t come.

So I went out… Walked through the streets.

…Here and there, I’d catch a drop. But as time went by, it felt like the drops got smaller,

and this cup became larger.

Hey mister, can you help me fill this cup? I’ve been in a rut, and I know there’s no excuse but…

I need some help to fill this cup again. I’m tired of chasing dark clouds,

that vanishes like all else, at the sight of me.

It might look sunny from the outside looking in, but this cups running on empty.

It may not show through these disguises, but this cups running on empty.

If you are the "one" who is lucky enough to get a life raft, and escape a sinking ship… Don't celebrate too soon,

because when that ship capsizes, it will create a current that will pull you in;

No matter how hard you paddle, or how far you think you are.

Of Things To Come…

A view from atop the world of…

The way the sun shines as it spirals past the horizon. The way the moon counters the sun,

in the exchange of day for night. Lilacs in the summer evening breeze. This sunset across an unending ocean.

Like no other love, you hold me to the ground.

Like no other, like no other love… You deserve a world to yourself,

A world of your own. I would trade this world,

For an island in your ocean. I’d sell short the summer,

And freeze our love in time. Like no other…

Your lips, The curvature of that smile.

Those eyes, The way you look tonight.

You are like no other, you take the boundaries of beauty further.

The mentor we seek in others, can only be found within one’s self.

So strike the match, and set fire to the mind.

With You

Satin sage dress,

sits on her so perfectly.

Shimmering to her every step…

She’s comes for me.

Tonight, I’m living out a Martian fantasy.

The worlds she takes me to.

I am overwhelmed by the scent of she,

as she nestles with me.

And as we look out,

from a penthouse view of the city…

With you.

With you…

I am nothing more.

With you.

With you…

You are distance folded

like the lights outside our window,

shining in and projecting shadows,

who dance the dance of rituals.

Our spirits uninhibited.

Satin sage.

Hands pressed.

The scent of you

With you.

With you…

Unrelenting,

Mouse and Man

You might say, it’s wise not to play, ‘cause if you don’t play, you can’t lose.

Truth of the matter is, it’s just to occupy time. ‘Cause whether you play or you don’t…

In the end, you can’t change what’s written. After all… What’s the difference between mouse and man,

when the difference is a fraction of a percentage.

Do your best son, just do your best. Don’t give a shit, about all the rest. Let the pieces fall,

as they may. Know that the right ones,

will fall into place. Will fall into place.

In The Midnight Hour

In the midnight hour…

Draw away the ghosts that haunt.

Take solace in the moon.

You’re a long way from home,

but it’s better than the hell within which you were.

In the midnight hour…

When the taste in your mouth turns sour.

Search the mind to find your path of gold.

Take your time and let your life unfold.

You’ve got a long time to live, so don’t cower…

In the midnight hour,

don’t let them tell you, you’re yesterday’s flower.

The Fun Parlor

Strolling down the street. Passing little shops.

Can’t resist my sweet tooth, in to the candy shop we go. The metaphors run rampant,

break the brittle, drown in the sea foam,

all the doom, sweetened to be consumed.

Only Today

I have nothing to prove,

nothing to lose…

So I give it all I have.

Tomorrow is not my prize,

for I am living for today.

This is the only day I have…

I wake up with hope and faith to carry me,

through whatever may lay claim over me.

There’s something to be said

about the way they lift me up.

Folded way,

there are no nights within my days.

No tomorrows, no yesterdays…

Only today.

Days Gone Bye

There’s a swing in the garden,

that never sways…

But the memories of you, remain.

How far does one go,

before they lose their way back, home.

It’s been so long.

It’s been a day.

Is their any use reminiscing about yesterday?

The View

The nights we’ve spent,

out here on the beach.

In the distance… Patio lights,

which turn off as the night turns to morning.

I could live out here with you…

Never a worry of what the world would think of us.

The sea is alight with boats,

searching for a home.

This sea,

holds no prisoners…

But if you fail to pay it respect,

you’ll find yourself swallowed

and served up for its feast.

This Commute

Sleepy Sam nods off…

The train commute can put one to sleep.

Drowsy Danny asks, ”Should wake the boy?”

I say, “No, he’s young.

He’s got days ahead of him…

Let him sleep for now.”

I had days ahead of me once…

How fast they go,

Even when these trains run slow.

Man destroys the good he reaps… Man becomes the evil he seeks.

An Evening Prayer

For all that I don’t have, I’m grateful to have the two of you.

And I pray with time we’ll heal. I pray that time will heal,

all that I currently cannot see or feel. Give me a cure in which I can believe.

God, if nothing more… Give me reprieve.

There's a wild bush, growing in a field.

Branches stretched out, trying to grab hold of the sun. No matter how hard it tries, it cannot reach past the sky.

What Once Lived and Bloomed

Bring life back to what once lived and bloomed.

When the answers are all the same…

More questions than fingers, that points the blame. And all that’s offered is a hope, that one day, one day…

Life will be brought back to what once lived and bloomed.

Until then, all that we can do is put our hands together and pray.

Therein lies the cure… God given, it’s in our hands. We can heal the hurt and mend the wounds.

Bring life back to what once lived and bloomed.

I Am Freed

Into the darkness, I walked alone. Years passed and I found my own. Years passed, and I found myself. Now that light shines once again.

I've come to find, all that abandoned me… All I no longer need.

I am freed. I am freed. Godspeed… Hallelujah!

What a beautiful sight.

Friends

You have gone and disappeared, in an act of magic, without a magician.

Friends will be friends, remember to keep a tough skin.

See you soon. See you soon.

I’ll be right here, through the thick and the thin.

Relic (In And Of The Sand)

I search this desert for lost wages, but I’m caught in the undertow of the infinite waves of sand.

Where’s my helping hand? Where’s my castle on the hill?

My crown of gold, may as well be my captor.

It’s weight on me, paralyzing. As I struggle to break its grip

and come up for breaths of air, I am finding, that which drowns me

is solidifying inside of me. I can’t help but to think,

maybe there’s another way out before it makes of me, a relic...

drowned beneath, with only a hand reaching out from the depths…

Holding tightly its devices.

From this sand, you give me two glass eyes…

One for my right, the other for my left.

Together they form my present. From this sand,

you give me a mirror... Memories born to me in my past,

never to be dashed. From this sand,

you give me a lens to the future… Stilling my shaking vision,

dissolving the pulsating static, so that I can see with clarity.

My God

My God, a sleeping child, woken by the break of dawn. My God, a mother who knows one day the child will grow up.

These days suspend us, like a nor’easter freeze.

Our lives pass us, like day for night. See the snow, reflect the light;

A photoflash, freezing us in time.

Are we all alone? Has anyone stayed after they’ve left?

I swear there are times, when I feel your hand on my shoulder, bringing rest to the uneasiest of nights.

My God is an unknown stranger,

except for when I’m in need. My God keeps an eye on me,

as she sleeps by my side.

I chose to travel all these roads alone, for I feared hurting you, in my defeat.

My God is hidden yet acknowledged…

Buried like the city streets and rolling fields, beneath the cover of thawed and refrozen snow.

Somewhere past the Jersey shore,

there’s a new star shimmering through the night. Memories of an infectious laugh and a joyful smile,

warms the soul and mends the broken hearts. For all we know, there’s more we don’t.

Rest assured, there’s a better place for all of us, past the pain.

In All Our Incarnations

All we were was dust in the wind. We were blown, blown across the surface,

only to be placed gently in the safety of the earth. The rain it fell, the light it shined…

With time, we grew, two trees in the forest of our love.

They could never cut us down, and in all our reincarnations,

we were together. Just two leaves,

blown, blown across the surface.

The physics of this Earth, could never hold us down. We were two lovebirds,

flying forever… Searching for a place we could call our home.

All in all, like two turtles in the sea… The waves would lift us, form the edge of defeat.

The waves would leave us, but not for long… For we would leave with them, as they would recede.

Leaving behind, our legacy… Life’s seed.

We were two of a kind, paying no matter and no mind.

Through all the bedlam, through all the cold…

We go searching through the seas, to find ourselves a home.

Stones

When all else is lost… Know that there will always be

a hand on the shoulder.

We are never alone, more or less, just stones, skipping across the ocean until we reach our ends,

and sink to unfamiliar depths… All the while, on our way, with time,

we become sediment.

Without trust… All actions become unjust.

Without trust… All that’s left is dust.

Diving in the gorge.

Eleven

So you’ve been wondering about what was in that box for the past two weeks…

Well here it is, a blank canvas… Like the first day that we met. It’s sixteen feet squared. Numerology says, 1+6 = 7… You could say its just s a little bit of our Heaven.

I went and bought that spray paint… Colour was red, like the fire we make. And I painted the canvas, I know it’s not perfect…

There are some blemishes and rough patches. I then found these wire coat hangers… They were perfect!

They can carry a lot of weight on their shoulders, and are unrelenting, yet so naked, unwilling to hide anything about who they are.

And it is in that “nakedness”, that they are so often misconceived as to what they are capable of.

They are willing to bend to the limit, but won’t break. They will give all that they can, all of the time.

They reminded me of you and I. I ordered these Christmas lights… They are so warm and radiant,

yet flexible to meet anyone else’s needs on a whim. They are able to withstand the world outside,

and whatever stormy weather may come their way. They are simple but so very complex,

and can be very frustrating when they are set in their way. They are compromising and understanding, yet strong enough to hold me.

They reminded me of me and you. I took me and you, and wrapped us around you and I,

like an embrace never to be torn apart. Together they meld in alchemy, like an aged relationship,

bringing their unique characteristics together. I then attached it, to that once blank canvas that I not so perfectly painted.

And while you were sleeping, I hung it on the wall, so that it would be the first thing that you would see this morning.

Now I know that arts and crafts aren’t exactly my forte, but that’s where you come in.

‘Cause for all that I can’t do, you flawlessly can, without fail… That’s why you are truly like no other of your like.

Over Time

These days they race away…

The night comes, with it, a flurry of our fears appear. And though we wipe away the tears,

we can’t escape the cold. The fire burns,

slow into the morning. We wake in each other’s arms,

with tears not fully dried. How do we comprehend all that we lose… When what we lose, compounds over time?

As with life, we throw another log on the fire, so that the fire doesn’t burn out.

Searching the silence, for a sign of relief.

We no longer wish to be trapped in disbelief.

The Wi-Fi Passcode (Possession Part 2)

To fully understand this, we must first accept the following…

As you know, we are all hard-wired. By this we mean, there are those feelings which are physical. When you hug, you feel caring and warmth.

When you kiss, you feel love and compassion. When you make love, you feel a new intimacy.

These are all hard wired, you could say it’s a standard feature.

The next is what we would consider a sort of “open Wi-Fi”. When you watch or listen to something, or see someone who has tears or an infectious laughter.

We are able to feel those feelings without the physical contact, in turn, we feel their sadness or joy.

Then there is the third level… This is where we cross the lines.

It is common knowledge that there is light and dark, either of which can be good or bad.

For all that is of the light, or that we are aware of… There is an equal part that is played by the dark, or what cannot be seen.

…The living and the unseen. It is here, where there are spirits, teachers of both bad and good. None of who have an attachment to the physical world around us,

except for when they are connected to it.

This is where the third type of connection resides, a “passcode encrypted Wi-Fi”. Once you find the passcode, and enter this realm,

you quickly realize that the universe is the sum or all living things. Every living entity has its place in the universe, whether it is visible to the eye or not.

Think of it as a large server, on which we all have a DNS address. Your DNS address in the universe maybe 102.192.32.4 but you are John Smith.

Your physical being is a projection of your spiritual address. We are all inhabitable stars, some being born and others dying.

We are all carriers, of our DNA, we store our ancestry and their individual histories there within.

And even in our own solar system, we see how the planets orbit the Sun, with the darkness, ever so present between them, holding each one in place.

Once we attain the passcode, we become an open source, as are all else using the same network.

This means, our connectivity not only to each other, but all entities on the network, light or dark.

We can travel through each other, become each other, and gain knowledge from each other. In artistry, we can become the muse, the tool, or medium through which art is relayed.

One may summon entities, dark or light. Be careful, to be fully overcome, is to be taken… With no chance of return.

Four Weathered Soles (Formerly The Ballad of Adi Das)

It was around 7pm on an August Summers’ Friday night, There was a crowd gathering on the southwest corner of Yonge and Dundas.

I approached and asked the fella next to me, what was going on… He replied, “It’s this girl, she shows up here every weekend and breaks.”

“What do you mean?” I responded. To which he replied, “break dances, you got to check her out.” I’m awe, he states, “She can pull off a one-handed chair flare,

with ease…the way she turns it into a 1.5 air flare…mind blowing! It’s insane, the same song, and the same board. ”

“Board?” I questioned… “Yeah, she brings her own cardboard, it’s folded nine times, And covered in graffiti… You know, street art. ”

“Oh yeah”, shrugging my shoulders, I replied, “What’s so cool about that.” “Well, it’s the story behind it… The side she breaks on is her past.

All that she wishes not to have done.” “And?” I question… “And the people she wishes never to have met.” Curious, I ask, “and what’s on the other side?”

“It’s a picture of her man, a poet named Sonny Natalie, he supposedly disappeared or died.” He goes on to say,

“The story is she dances to forget and to reunite.” I decided to break through the crowd and get a closer view.

As I approached the front of the crowd, I was captivated by her and how effortlessly she breaked…

She and her unearthly beauty separated and suspended from the board. Her dance was a chain, which she was trying to free herself from, and on the other side of the board, was all that held her hostage.

She stopped suddenly, just as her song ended. With no attention to the applause, she folded her board nine times,

And without hesitation, she began to walk off, splitting the crowd like Moses did the sea. I approached her, and asked, “Is it true what they say.”

She stopped in her tracks, lifted her head and looked me in the eyes… I could tell that she was holding back tears, from the swell in her eyes.

She said, “I have seen things, been things, felt things that you will never experience. I have had my innocence replaced by hope and an undelivering faith in what I cannot

control...Even if you were to walk a mile in my shoes, you would still not know.” She then said, “walk a mile in my shoes, and maybe you’ll come to know…burden unfathomable.”

So I tired to do just that, I took four steps, turned back around, and in her hands I gave her back, four weathered soles.

From my eyes I gave her, tears of dismay. How could this have gone so wrong?
