The good news is that you will soon be welcoming a new full-time Interim Pastor, one trained and experienced in the process of leading a congregation through a time of transition. This can be a very exciting period as you reflect on your identity as a part of the Church of Jesus Christ, and prayerfully consider the future into which God is leading you. I have no doubt this will be a time of discovery and excitement, as guided by the Spirit, you search for the next Pastor of Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church. I have faith you are ready for this task. Over the past 12 weeks, you have demonstrated confidence in stepping up to the challenges of being a congregation in transition: a strong corps of volunteers has made sure ongoing programs have stayed strong and building upkeep has been maintained. Your leaders have addressed some critical matters that needed immediate attention (you can read more about some of that elsewhere in this newsletter). You have demonstrated openness to new ideas and welcomed suggestions, which has been very gratifying to me personally. And perhaps most importantly, you have a vibrant worship life, meaningful prayer encounters, and commitment to learning and education that will sustain you through the stress of the next couple of years. As I prepare to move on, I am grateful for the opportunity to spend the last several months with you. Our Lenten Season was inspiring and our Easter Celebration glorious. Thank you for welcoming my wife and me into the warmth of your Christian fellowship. I know you will do the same for the person who will follow me. So, whether I am here for another week or two, or perhaps a little longer, please know this congregation will always have a special place in my heart! Blessings, Jack Carlson From the Pastor’s Pen

Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Good Shepherd Family:

What a time it has been! It hardly seems possible that I am finishing three months as your “bridge pastor,” and that this is probably my final article for The Yarn.

Blessings,

Jack Carlson

Shepherd’s Kids Shepherd Kids continues to be a wonderful time for children to learn about God

and enjoy friends and the wonderful leadership at Good Shepherd Presbyterian. We always start with prayer and then dine together. Dinner is

followed by activities including a story, art making, singing, and this past week, learning how to plant a garden. Thanks to our volunteers who take turns

developing and leading activities to make each time with our children

special. We will meet again on May 10h and 17th.

We are approaching our community church event rapidly. The deacons and others are

promoting the yard sale and vendor spaces diligently. We ask that everyone do their part in marketing and participating in "our" church event. We have sign up sheets for various

jobs. Take a look, see where you can give of your talents.

When the deacons had their planning meeting our mission was to reintroduce some community involvement. This is not a deacons event, nor is it a fundraiser. It is a Good Shepherd

event. Our hope is to reach out to the community and have fellowship with each other. We hope you will consider renting a yard sale space. No! Well donate items to GS table!

GIGANTIC games and prizes for the kids, baked goods, plants, Lularoe, Scentsy, Wooden Signs, Initials,

Tupperware, Avon, Folds of Honor, are just a few attendees and the search is still ongoing. We will follow up on your contacts should you have any.

Join us, invite your friends and family.

Many thanks to our choir for their dedication and service to God and our church. The weeks leading up to Easter in-cluded a great deal of music, and I appreciate all the time that was given to learn the music and all of the heart that is

so freely given. I also want to thank Deloris Barr. Deloris and her husband Bob have been wonderful additions to

Good Shepherd, and I really appreciate Deloris joining in with the music program. How can I not thank Pastor Jack with his guitar and harmonica. Jack is wonderful to work with and adds a great deal to our music ministry. And finally

Edie!!! Edie is amazing, reliable, talented, great on the piano and organ, and did I mention amazing, and always kind. I love our music team!!

As you may have heard, the Presbyterian Investment Loan Program (PILP) has decided to put our loan for the new

Child Care Facility on hold for two reasons. Our enrollment numbers in the Child Care Program are down and we

do not have a permanent Minister. As a lender these are both valid concerns.

In light of this situation the Session has voted to delay pursuing the New Child Care Building for now. During this

delay, a new Minister will be sought, ways to increase enrollment will be explored, and the financial feasibility will

be reevaluated.

As a result of this delay, the Session has also voted to accomplish some much needed renovations to our existing

facilities. Due to a recent evaluation by Social Services, several playground deficiencies must be corrected. The

plan is to renovate the existing playground to provide a new and vibrant as well as safer experience for our Day

Care Children. The Session also voted to refurbish the parking lot, and to perform needed upgrades to our existing

building.

We will continue to reevaluate the possibilities for a new Child Care Center while being good stewards of our

existing facilities in the process.

Blessings,

Gary Workman
