REVIEW from The YELLOW Cross

• Look at the YELLOW face.• Match the YELLOW face with: • The single YELLOW center piece and follow the

algorithm:

• The YELLOW right angle corner and follow the algorithm:

• The single YELLOW line down the middle row of the YELLOW face and follow the algorithm:

REVIEW from the YELLOW Face

• Position the YELLOW cross so that it matches one of the following:

• The LEFT corner closest to you (LEFT/FRONT/UP) has a YELLOW piece on the LEFT face

• The LEFT corner closest to you (LEFT/FRONT/UP) has a YELLOW piece on the UP face.

• The LEFT corner closest to you (LEFT/FRONT/UP) has a YELLOW piece on the FRONT face.

• Use the algorithm:

• Reposition and use the same algorithm until all UP face corners are YELLOW.

To get the YELLOW Face:

Lesson Focus

• Make sure the YELLOW Face is the UP Face. • Look at the RED, BLUE, ORANGE, and GREEN faces. • Specifically, look at the TOP row corners of each

face. • Find a face that has matching TOP row corners:

– (A&B; B&D; D&C; or C&A)

– Twist the TOP row so that the matching TOP row corners match the center piece color of the face.

– Position the cube so that the matching TOP row corners and center piece are on the BACK face. • At positions A&B

Lesson Focus

• If you do not have match TOP row corners on one face: – Twist the TOP row until one set of diagonal

corners is in the correct positions. • A&D or B&C

• When there are two matching TOP row corners or diagonal corners are in the correct position: – Follow the algorithm to solve for all the TOP

row corners:

Troubleshooting

• If you cannot find matching pieces on the same face or diagonal, do the algorithm until you do have matching end pieces on the same face or matching diagonal corners.

• Be sure to check for matches after every completion of the algorithm.

Lesson Extension

• To solve a problem, sometimes you have to approach it in a different way.

• When solving for the YELLOW corners, if you can’t find a matching TOP row corners on one face, then you can find matching diagonal corners.

• When solving for a math problem, if you can’t solve a problem one way, then a different approach might help you solve the problem better.

• There are many different strategies to help solve math problems: • Guess and Check• Diagrams• Lists• Tables• Write an equation• Backwards (answer first, then show the

work)
