IO4 MOOCTo design the MOOC for the ACT project. This is the material form the broader objective of the ACT project takes: → establish the new professional profile of the media accessibility manager and coordinator, andtheir training. Why did we choose a MOOC?To cater for• the diversity in potential accessibility manager trainees,• the diversity in the different contexts in which they potentially already work/may work in future• the diversity in levels of training required and training outside an institutional context• the need for training that does not require strict entry requirements• the need for life-long learning that can still be complemented by other courses.

The development of the MOOC is therefore an integral part of the ACT objective:• it is flexible and can be taken from virtually anywhere,• it is a course that aims at professionals as well as students,• it is a course training practical skills based on background research-based knowledge.

The core modules of the MOOC are:• introduction to accessibility,• indoor & outdoor accessibility to cultural venues & events,• access services: concepts & practical implementation,• communication,• management.

A cultural event in the scenic arts is considered accessible for all when four standards are met:• Communication is clear and accessible for all: accessibility information is available,

front office staff is trained and a contact persons is present.• The event takes place in an accessible environment: the accessibility chain is

closed both at fixed and temporary locations.• All spectators can have qualitative experience: mainstream performance can be

experienced by different senses (sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell).• The event is easy to participate in and to understand for all, including assistance and

services for special needs.

NTGent – importance of a definition of the professional profile of an Accessibility Manager/CoordinatorPlan of action/instructions/mapping of all actions needed for making a live event/performance fully accessible.E.g.: we made some procedures about making a live event/performance fully accessible-> effective when I get sick, switch jobs,…-> there’s a plan of action for someone to take

over my job, based on a professional profile-> ready to use for all kinds of venues/companies, also

when then don’t have an accessibility man./co. yet.
