A Group for upliftment of slum children

Established in 1992 by Zulfiqar Khan, a gold medalist from the department of Indian Theatre, Panjab University, Chandigarh, Theatre age focuses on the upliftment of slum children.

With Theatre Age today, around 30 rag pickers, boot polish boys and laborers are in the process of discovering themselves and carving their niche in the world.

To prevent slum children from being forced to work, Theatre Age rehabilitates them and introduces a new perspective through theatre workshops.

Theatre Age also runs an evening school for children. Recently, 15 children associated with Theatre Age have passed the 8th and 9th grade examinations with flying colors.

Funds for the evening school are generated via collection and sale of ‘raddi’-old newspapers.

Before Veer Pal joined Theatre Age, he had switched jobs from being a rag-picker to a boot-polisher. After his association with Theatre Age, Veer Pal joined a reputed television channel as a trained make-up artist.

Vicky Raja transformed himself from a street urchin to Border Security Force Soldier

Anoop joined Theatre Age at the age of 5, when he used to be a rag-picker. Today, at the age of 13, He has passed the 8th grade examinations with flying colors.

Sahil joined Theatre Age at the age of 4 when he was a rag-picker. Today, Sahil is pursuing education at Theatre Age and has passed the 8th grade examinations.

Theatre Age continues to work for the upliftment of slum children and to save them from the perils of child labour.
