Months of Guild Activities

Let’s do a recap of the last few months of meetings. Our Newsletter has been lapsed and we don’t want anyone missing out on the fun we have been having, nor upcoming events.

During the months of July and August, many of our members had exhibited finished pieces at the State Fair. Congratulations to all who entered and the ribbon winners.Next year there will be more information to submit your work to the State fair provided to our members. ALL are encouraged to enter and make our presence known.

During the July Lamb to Loom meeting, we all enjoyed eachothers Show and Tell, as well as, some very fine fleeces brought by our livestock farming members.

Amy Cook opened her home and property to the Guild for a fantastic Natural Dye Workshop. Many members prepared various dye pots for all particpants to use. Some of the natural materials we used were madder, logwood, osage orange, indigo, and marigolds. A surprising variety of colors and hues were created by these dyes. All particpants enjoyed this workshop and hope to do so again next year.

Even though we didn’t have a regular meeting in September many members attended the Endless Mountiain Fiber Festival in Hartford, PA. There is always things to learn and fantastic fiber to purchase at this event. Each year this festival grows in popularity. Consider attending next September.

October was a glorious month to celebrate color!! The fall leaves have never been so brilliant.Our meeting activity consisted of creating stunning felted scarves. Each and everyone was unique to its maker. It was fasinating to see all this loose fiber transform into a lovely scarf. Thanks to our many talented members whom share their fine skills with us.

NOVEMBER MEETINGFOUR NEW MEMBERS!!! Welcome to all our newest members. I hope you find this guild educational, enjoyable, and addicting!

Novembers meeting had approximately 23 members in attendance. Please sign in upon entering the meeting space, so I can be accurate with out attendance records. Thank you.Our Show and Tell was inspiring! We saw obejcts made in entralac knitting, hand dyed wool, felted pumpkins, woven dishclothes, indigo dyed scarf from our workshop in August, quilted blankets, and fermented dyed pieces. We are a creative bunch.

Gail Welter invited all who would like to learn to weave to her home studio on Thrusdays from 10am - 1:30pm. There is plenty of looms to learn upon. Gail will also be bringing the large table loom to the meeting each month, so that members in attendance can learn upon and get acquianted with.

The Board members are requesting that if anyone has “crappy” fleeces, please consider donating them to the guild so that we may send them to the mill for use in the DrillSpinning workshop we are planning for next year. This years Drill Spinning became such lovely sought-after rugs.

The Board also changed the frequency of the Newsletter to quarterly publishing (4x). The dates of publishing are as of right now, and subject to change, November, February, May, and August of each year. The Newsletter will still carry all your important updates and announcements.

SHOW AND TELL


During our November meeting we had the venerable Ann Merriwether teaching us how to recreate her adorable Pine Cone Santa Ornaments. Many took part in this activity. With a little blood (those needles are sharp!) and a lot of stabbing ( this is beginning to sound like a horror film.), Santa faces, arms ,and legs slowly came into being. Each one unique as the next. Everyone learned a lot about needle felting and left with their own Pine Cone Santa Ornament.

Our Recap of the last several months meetings is complete. Don’t miss out on any of the fun! If you have any ideas for activities, workshops, field trips, or skills you would like to teach, for next year, please bring it to the Boards attention. See you in December at the Holiday Party!
