Professor Clive Badman OBE took on a role in the Business Engagement Group at Strathclyde University, in October 2013, where he is a Professor of Practice. Concurrent to this role he was VP Pre-Competitive Activities, R&D, GSK where he worked for 40 years before retiring in July 2108.

Clive was Industrial Chair for Continuous Manufacturing and Crystallisation (CMAC), an award winning academic/industry collaboration from 2011-2018 and he led the Remedies project from 2014-2018 representing 2 institutions and 21 industrial companies. He led a programme to create a Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre (MMIC) which was given approval in June 2018.

Clive is Chairman of DTG an exciting new start in digital in process industries.

Professor George Crooks is the Chief Executive of the Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre, Scotland’s national innovation centre for digital health and care. He leads an organisation that is tasked with delivering innovation in digital health and care that will help Scotland’s people to live longer, healthier lives and create new jobs for the economy.

He was previously the Medical Director for NHS 24 and Director of the Scottish Centre for Telehealth & Telecare. George was a General Medical Practitioner for 23 years in Aberdeen latterly combining that role as Director of Primary Care for Grampian. George is on the Board of the European Connected Health Alliance. He is currently a Board member and past president of the European Health Telematics Association. He is also an adjunct Professor of Telehealth at the University of Southern Denmark.

George was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours List 2011 for services to healthcare.

Kathryn DapréHead of Energy & Sustainability, NHS National Services Scotland

Kathryn Dapré is Head of Energy and Sustainability within NHS National Services Scotland. Kathryn’s team provides professional support to NHS Scotland boards, Scottish Government and other stakeholders in relation to all aspects of climate change resilience, energy management and sustainability. Kathryn has been involved in sustainability and climate change work for over 20 years. Following a period in energy consultancy where she worked with a range of public and private sector clients, she joined the NHS in 2012. She has overseen the implementation of the first Energy Performance Contracts within the Scottish public sector estate and more recently, has overseen the development of the NHS Sustainability Action campaign to encourage sustainability behaviour change across the service. Kathryn is now leading the development of a new NHS Scotland Climate Change and Sustainability Strategy which includes commitments to achieve a ‘net-zero service’ by 2045.

Kathryn is also Chair of the Sustainable Scotland Network (SSN). The SSN is the national network for public sector sustainability and climate change professionals in Scotland. It exists to support these professionals and their organisations, so that the public sector is better able to deliver on Scotland’s ambitious programme for sustainable development and climate change. SSN showcases action taken to reduce emissions and supports deeper commitment, action and innovation on climate change and sustainability.

Director of Cloud Engineering & Digital Operations, NHS National Services Scotland

Steven Flockhart is a professional Technology & Change Executive who leads the Cloud Engineering & IT Operations function within NHS National Services Scotland. Steven has spent time working with well-established companies such as Royal Bank of Scotland, Sainsburys Bank, Lloyds Banking Group & Tesco.

After spending more than 20 years in Information Technology Services, Steven has delivered large scale Transformation and Technology change programmes with a strong focus across Public and Private Cloud Services, Data Architecture, Data Science and Advanced Analytics.

Steven holds professional qualifications in Programme Management, Enterprise Architecture and Cloud Solutions.

Speaker Details Caitlin Hamlett

Sustainability Manager, NHS National Services Scotland

Caitlin is the national lead within NHS National Services Scotland for greenspace and biodiversity. She studied Environmental Science at the University of Edinburgh, Soil Science at the University of Stirling in association with the National Trust for Scotland and Urban & Regional Planning at Herriot-Watt University.

She has a wealth of experience in policy development and the practical delivery of environmental and greenspace projects. Former roles include Senior Planner with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, Climate Change Policy Officer at West Lothian Council, Local Development Plan lead for Orkney Islands Council and Manager of the Lothians & Fife Green Network Partnership. Caitlin represents NHS National Services Scotland on the Green Exercise Partnership Board, a collaboration of the NHS and environment sector which aims to improve the environmental quality and biodiversity value of the NHS outdoor estate and to stimulate its use for health and wellbeing.

John Jeans CBE Chair, Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre

John is a Non-Executive Director of several companies including Renishaw, Prometic Life Science and EM imaging.

He was previously the Chairman of Cardiff University, Deputy Chief Executive of the Medical Research Council and Chaired the Trustee Board of MRC Technology.

An advisor to public and third sector organizations, he was appointed by the Prime Minister in 2014 as the Life Science Champion for medical technology. He has served on several UK Government bodies, including the Science Advisory Council for Wales, and was a Trustee of the Francis Crick Institute. He advises the Singapore Government on Life Science matters and chairs a Strategic Advisory Panel for their Diagnostics Hub.

During an industrial career spanning 35 years he held international leadership positions in Smith & Nephew, Bristol Myers Squibb, Johnson & Johnson and Amersham plc. John headed the commercial function of GE’s Life Science business and was the Chairman of its UK Healthcare Company.

He was awarded the CBE for services to Life Sciences, Healthcare and Science in 2012.

Shelley MackayNational Fleet Manager, NHS National Services Scotland

Shelley is the National Fleet Manager for NHS National Services Scotland. She joined NHSS in August 2016 and prior to that covered a variety of local authority roles. She oversees the National Fleet Support Unit and supports the health boards with implementation of national fleet systems, fleet management and the transition to having an ULEV fleet.

Marian McNeilCEO, Precision Medicine Scotland Innovation Centre

Marian is the Chief Executive Officer for Precision Medicine Scotland and has worked there for three years. She has a background in Business Development and Professional Relations working in large pharmaceutical companies, including Eli Lilly and AstraZeneca. She recently (2016) gained a Masters in Stratified Medicine and Pharmacological Innovation from the University of Glasgow.

She has extensive experience of the medical marketing interface for oncology pipeline products and has been part of a large multi-disciplinary team focused on development through to successful launch of targeted treatments for cancer.

Speaker Details Wendy Rayner

Sustainability Manager, NHS National Services Scotland

Wendy Rayner is the lead for waste, resource management and sustainable procurement for NHS National Services Scotland. Wendy works closely with the Scottish Government to help NHS Scotland fulfil the requirements of public sector procurement duties and also contributes towards NHS Scotland’s and Scottish Government’s Circular Economy ambitions.

Wendy is a Chartered Waste Manager, Chartered Environmentalist and holds a Global MBA. Her interest is on sustainable business models and the circular economy and she is currently leading on a number of projects with the NHS to transition to more circular supply chains.

Wendy is the Chair of the UK Chartered Institute of Wastes Management (CIWM) Expert Healthcare Care Group. She is an elected Centre Councillor of CIWM Scotland and is also a Trustee of a local health and social well-being charity.
