Dear Parents,
In this day and age it is important to closely monitor electronic devices children can access. You
have probably heard of Jesse Weinberger who is an expert in the field. She has written books and
travels as a speaker teaching ways to protect our young people from the potential dangers. Please
take time to view the video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8YR6kuILs4, which talks
specifically about young people and cell phone use.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of our cell phone policy as it is written in
the handbook. If students must bring a cell phone to school, they must store it in their backpack in
the ‘off’ position for the entire school day. Students’ phones which are not turned off, or not stored in
their backpack or locker, will be confiscated and kept in my office until dismissal. That includes
recess, lunch, and dismissal times. If they need to contact home, or vice versa, please utilize the
school office. Mrs. Borally would be happy to help with phone calls.
A number of students have been carrying their phones in their pockets, afraid the phone may be lost
or stolen. While I understand their concern, my suggestion would be to leave the phone at home
unless it is absolutely necessary. A phone in the pocket can be a big temptation. As Jesse
Weinberger says in her video, “You know where your children are during school hours.” Any
communication between student and home should be conducted through the school office. Thank
you for helping to maintain vigilance for the students’ safety.
Mrs. Whiteley

To celebrate the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi- October 4- and his care and concern for all of God's creatures, the students of Communion of Saints, in conjunction with the School Spiritual Life Committee, are asked to:
*Bring in old blankets, towels and sheets from Oct. 1 through Oct. 14. Donations may be brought to the school office during school hours or dropped off in the Joachim Room before or after mass. All donations will be sent to the Cleveland APL. Please note: the items do not need to be new. Items can be used, torn, have holes , as long as they have been laundered.
As we celebrate the Feast of Saint Francis, so many of our students are asking questions about Heaven and whether or not animals can go to Heaven, Fr. Matt and I decided to tackle this tricky question: Do animals go to Heaven? It's a question that neither we nor the Church can give or has given a clear-cut definitive answer to (no, not even Pope Francis), so divergent opinions abound. But, I believe we responded with truth, sensitivity and a good bit of humor.

The month of October brings not only colder weather, but also many school activities along with it. There are upcoming activities where parent volunteers are needed. Children learn the virtue of service by seeing it in action. Please help to demonstrate the importance of service and school by volunteering here at Communion of Saints. We appreciate the dedication of all the parents who give of their time so freely. Now is the time to step up and join in; you will be welcomed with open arms! Please see the attached flyer for current opportunities!

Wrestling in the Diocese of Cleveland CYO is dedicated to developing the
complete young athlete. This means that CYO Wrestling will teach the technical
aspects of wrestling as well as social, emotional and spiritual components of being a
well rounded young person. The culture of CYO requires that members of the team
and coaches be committed to honoring the Rules, Officials, Opponents, Teammates
and One’s self. By identifying with the culture of CYO, the young person will see
growth not only on the mat, but in daily life as well!
The Diocese of Cleveland CYO Wrestling Team is coached by individuals that
have successfully taught the skills of youth wrestling for many years. They have
exceeded the standards of coaching in the CYO and are committed to the mission and
values of the Diocese of Cleveland. The coaches’ care and commitment to the
development of the complete athlete to be more Christ-like in the way they live will
be evident at each practice and competition.
If you are in the 5th to 8th grade, JOIN THE TEAM to continue the 50 year tradition of
wrestling in the Diocese of Cleveland CYO and enjoy the feeling that comes from
challenging oneself to be more than you thought you could be.
Make sure you are part of the 2015-2016 season!
