SUSTAINABLE LAND USE PATTERNS& CLEAN TRANPORTATION OPTIONS
PRINCIPLES OF USING LAND SUSTAINABLY
Mix land uses. Take advantage of compact building design. Create housing opportunities and choices. Create walk able communities. Preserve open space, farmland, natural beauty, and critical environmental areas. Strengthen and direct development toward existing communities. Provide a variety of transportation choices.(clean transportation) Make development decisions predictable, fair, and cost-effective.
Encourage community and stakeholder collaboration in development decisions.
Sustainable Planning Recommendations
Integrate open space requirements for new development with the green infrastructure plan to provide maximum wildlife connections.
Require low-impact development techniques for new and re-development. Produce and adopt an illustrated development guidelines document. Require new development to meet ecological function and restoration
goals. Ensure that all new county buildings are environmentally friendly by
designating staff to facilitate the county’s adoption and implementation of a green building program.
Foster the use of green building techniques in the private sector.
Seek grants to help offset initial costs associated with environmentally friendly design and building.
Our project----discusses the linkages between land use planning and policies on a variety of different aspects of sustainability, including economic development, environmental sustainability and social factors--------
Our project shows economic development which also benefit local communities and the environment only if three of them overlap. If only two out of three overlap, (for instance social and economic), it may result in a situation that is “equitable,” but does not necessarily consider the needs of the environment. Likewise, a situation that balances the social needs with environmental needs may be “bearable,” but may not result in optimal economic gains
Sustainability is a concept that means achieving an increasingly high level of public awareness and interest, and is beginning to shape land use policiesandclean transportation
Our next project discusses clean transport options--
Showing present status of clean fuel used i.e. CNG
Showing planned status of clean fuel used i.e. ethanol and solar energy
Showing future status of clean fuel used i.e. hydrogen gas
CNG
ETHANOL
HYDROGEN
Conclusions: Perceptions have begun to change-Use of CNG & environment
friendly resources testify to this. The damage already caused needs more effective and mass scale
measures to improve living conditions. Effective planning to reduce pollution e.g. use of solar energy is
an effective tool-economically & environmentally. Further minimization of environmental degradation requires
innovative strategies like use of Hydrogen as a fuel or green construction.
