J esus took Peter, John and James and went up the mountain to pray. While he was praying his
face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white. An behold, two men were
conversing with him, Moses and Elijah, who appeared in glory and spoke of his exodus that he
was going to accomplish in Jerusalem.
Then from the cloud came a voice that said;
“This is my chosen Son; listen to him.”

The Sacrament of Reconcilia1on!
Mass Intentions for February 20th - 26th
A re all of our sins—past, present, and future—forgiven once and for all when we become Christians? Not according to the Bible or the early Church Fathers. Scripture nowhere states that our future sins are forgiven; instead, it teaches us to pray, "And
forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors" (Matt. 6:12).
The means by which God forgives sins after baptism is confession: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). Minor or venial sins can be confessed directly to God, but for grave or mortal sins, which crush the spiritual life out of the soul, God has instituted a different means for obtaining forgiveness—the
sacrament known popularly as confession, penance, or reconciliation.
This sacrament is rooted in the mission God gave to Christ in his capacity as the Son of man on earth to go and forgive sins (cf. Matt. 9:6). Thus, the crowds who witnessed this new power "glorified God, who had given such authority to men" (Matt. 9:8; note the plural "men"). After his resurrection, Jesus passed on his mission to forgive sins to his ministers, telling them, "As the Father has sent me, even so I send you. . . . Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of
any, they are retained" (John 20:21–23).
Since it is not possible to confess all of our many daily faults, we know that sacramental reconciliation is required only for grave or mortal sins—but it is required, or Christ would not have commanded it. +Robert H. Brom, Bishop of San Diego

Stations of the Cross
Every Friday, except
Good Friday, the
Stations of the Cross
will be followed at
7:00 p.m. in English
and 7:30 p.m. in
Spanish. These will
take place either
outside (weather
permitting) or inside
the Church.
T he Stations of the
Cross are a 14-step
Catholic devotion that commemorates Jesus
Christ's last day on Earth as a man. The 14
devotions, or stations, focus on specific events of
His last day, beginning with His condemnation.
The stations are commonly used as a mini
pilgrimage as the individual moves from station to
station. At each station, the individual recalls and
meditates on a specific event from Christ's last day.
Specific prayers are recited, then the individual
moves to the next station until all 14 are complete.
The Stations of the Cross are commonly found in
churches as a series of 14 small icons or images.
They can also appear in church yards arranged
along paths. The stations are most commonly
prayed during Lent on Wednesdays and Fridays,
and especially on Good Friday, the day of the
year upon which the events actually occurred.
Monday, February 29th at 7:00 p.m. our Lenten Penance will be held in the Church.
Additional Priests will be available to hear Confessions.
We ask that you keep in
your prayers those who
have died,
that they may receive
the goodness and
mercy of
Our Lord.
“Just as we have a share in
Christ’s many sufferings, so
also through Christ we share in God’s great help.” 2 Cor 1:5

A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF MUSIC AND LITURGY CHAPEL MUSIC
The attendees at Daily Chapel have been blessed with music for the past several years by Mr. Joe Florry. Joe faith-
fully brought his gift and played and sang beautifully to praise God most mornings at 9am. We give him great thanks
for his gift. Joe has moved to Lanier Village and will only be with us when his health permits. We will miss him!
You know that truism about one door closing and another one opening? Mr. Bob Frey came into my office a few
weeks ago and asked about Joe. When I explained the situation, Bob offered his gift of music, continuing the legacy
of Joe, and beginning one of his own. Our daily parishioners are blessed with lovely piano music most mornings
when they come to pray and partake of the Mass.
Thanks be to God for these two talented men who have offered their gifts for his glory! There is a 19th century hymn
text by Frances Havergal that encompasses the gift of our lives and talents.
“Take my life, that I may be consecrated, Lord to thee. Take my moments and may days; let them flow in ceaseless praise.
Take my hands and let them move at the impulse of thy love;
Take my feet and let them be swift and beautiful for thee.
Take my voice and let me sing always, only for my King;
Take my lips and let them be filled with messages from thee.” Perhaps during this Lenten journey you may find God calling you to share yourself in may ways to glorify
your Maker.

Pray for Our Military - They are always prepared and ready to defend and protect us
Prayer for Our Country
Heavenly Father, you are the real foundation of nations,
raising them up to serve and care for the people dwelling in their boundaries.
I thank you for making me a citizen of this land of freedom and unlimited opportunity—these United States.
Send fourth your Spirit to this country and make it a source of wisdom and strength,
order and integrity throughout the world. Amen
