When Joseph was sold into slavery the caravan that purchased him was on their way to Egypt carrying “balm and myrrh.” (Gen 37:25)

Interestingly, later when his brothers came to ask for food, they also brought gifts of “balm and myrrh.” (Gen 43:11)

When the Bible refers to “spices” for burial, the term refers to oils, not the dried herbs we know as spices today. ( Mark 16:1 , Luke 23:56 , 24:1 and John 19:40) It is the oil content of a spice that supplies the aroma, and flavour.

The embalming process that was carried out on Jacob’s body by Egyptian physicians, took 40 days.

• The words translated from the Hebrew and

Greek as “anoint” meant “to cover or rub or smear the head or body (or object) with oil” and in some cases, the word meant “to pour oil over the head or body.

Yahweh spoke to Moses: "Take the best spices: twelve and a half pounds of liquid myrrh; half that much, six and a quarter pounds, of fragrant cinnamon; six and a quarter pounds of fragrant cane (calamus); twelve and a half pounds of cassia—using the standard Sanctuary weight for all of them—and a gallon of olive oil. Make these into a holy anointing oil, a perfumer's skillful blend.” Exodus 30:23-25

Incidents of priests being anointed are found more than 30 times in the Bible. And as for kings, there are 61 royal anointingsand Essential Oils would have been used in every instance.

In Psalms 133:2 the writer describes the anointing of Aaron with “precious ointment upon the head, which ran down upon the beard…down to the skirts of his garment.”

Anointing as an act of hospitality We use Scripture Oils daily. We encourage

But, who are the priests of Yahweh in modern times?

What is the ultimate temple in which we are to worship? Whose duty is it to keep it clean, attractive, and in good

Cor 6:19, 2 Cor 6:16, 1Peter 2:5) • According to Peter, we are all “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, Yahweh's own people…” (1 Peter 2:9)

Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of Yahweh. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well… James 5:14-15

They went out and preached that people should

repent. They drove out many demons and anointed many sick people with oil and healed them. Mark 6:7-13

• The Greek word here for “healed” is “therapeuo,” from which we get our word “therapy,” is found 40 times. (Matt 4:23-24; Mark 1:34; Luke 5:15; Acts 5:16, 8:7) Therapeuo literally means “to serve,” to heal time with care.

• The healing Greek word “iaomai” means miraculous or ‘instantaneous” and is found 30 times in NT. (Matt 8:13, Mark 5:20, Luke 8:47, John 12:40)

The third Greek word for healing is "sozo,” which is found 3 times. (Mark 5:23; Luke 8:36; Acts 14:9)

Sozo implies not only to a physical healing, but an emotional and spiritual one as well.

Literally sozo means “to become sound or whole” in body, mind and spirit.

There are four books that recorded accounts of

the Messiah being anointed Matthew 26:6-7, Luke 7:36-38, Mark 14:3 and John 12:3.

Then Mary took one litra jar of expensive

perfume made from essence of nard, and she anointed Yahshua's feet with it, wiping his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance. John 12:3

Therefore be imitators of Yahweh as dear children. And walk in love, as Yahshua also has

loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to Yahweh for a sweet-smelling aroma. Ephesians 5:1-2
