It was in 1889 that The Original Pawleys Island Rope Hammock® was created

in a quiet summer resort along the South Carolina low country coast. The

Original tradition of quality craftsmanship that was born has now grown to

become a true symbol of southern relaxation.

As the story goes, it was Joshua Ward, a river boat pilot, who first wove a

knotless hanging bed in his search for a cool night’s rest. His rope design

replaced the hot and uncomfortable grass-filled mattresses that had hung

aboard his boat. That design endures to this day.

In Joshua’s quest for a better design lies the beginnings of a legacy of innovation

that continues. While The Original Pawleys Island Rope Hammock® is crafted

in the same style, using the same natural materials that were available to

Captain Josh, today’s innovations and weather resistant materials are being

incorporated into special models.

A durable, weather-resistant rope has been designed to offer the same

comfort that motivated Captain Josh but with the ability to provide

Our Fabric . . .Is solution-dyed DuraCord® for color fastness, stain and mildew resistance, and long outdoor life. The fabric is quilted using polyester fiber-fill batting. The very latest in color trends have been studied to create the collections that will expertly coordinate for any backyard setting.DuraCord® is the answer to the quest for softness and long color life in rope and fabric. • DuraCord® offers a UV protection package exceeding industry standards.• DuraCord® is fast drying with only .01% moisture regain.• DuraCord® is the most stain resistant fiber in the industry and can be cleaned with bleach.• DuraCord® will not support any microbial growth. Our Hanging Hardware . . .On a hammock or swing, the greatest amount of stress is placed at the point of the hanging chains and rings. Our hanging hardware is the largest and heaviest steel in the industry. Our hardware is plated with zinc for long life in the outdoors. Every hammock also includes the hardware (tree hooks) needed for a tree installation.

Our wood . . .The wood components in our products are meant to take the weather of the outdoors.- Oak is used in all spreader bars and furniture.- Each component receives multiple hand-dipped coats of marine varnish to seal the wood from the elements.

Our Stands . . .The heaviest weight steel in the industry is used for our hammock and swing stands. The Tri-Beam® hammock stand, our original design, easily assembles without the need for tools. Spring pins are used for maximum safety of assembly. In the crafting of the stand foot brackets, the signature safe Right Connection™ welding process is used, creating a strong 360 degree weld. A long lasting Cape Shield® powder coat finish is placed on all steel products.
